vatheon | The big troll reunion thing.

That voice... Kanaya was prepared for this though. She braced herself physically for the impact of a pounce, but she also braced herself mentally. Did Leijon know what the future held for her back in their universe the same way Eridan did? The coming conversation might be a bit hard. Maybe it would be best to hold off and ask Karkat when he arrived.

"Nepeta." Bring on the tacklehugs, catgirl. The rainbow drinker is ready.

And suddenly there was the most tackley of hugs as she flung herself at the other girl, clinging tightly.

"I'm so happy to see you again!! Are you okay? Have you met the others yet? Did Summoner go and meet you?" The questions poured out of her in a torrent as she looked up at the taller troll, looking rather silly with her kitty hood knocked askew from all the pouncing. But aside from the silliness she looked happy and in good health, not at all like a troll who'd died back home. That didn't mean she didn't know, though, having actually lived through her death right before arriving here. She'd just had enough time to work through it.

Kanaya couldn't help but smile in the presence of such enthusiasm. At least this time she didn't get knocked over! The rainbow drinker returned the hug before answering the deluge of questions.

"I am fine Nepeta, though perhaps a bit different than when you last saw me. I haven't met many others yet but Karkat and Feferi said they would meet me here. I did not encounter the Summoner and instead made my way here with Karkat's instructions." Kanaya paused, getting a good look at her friend. "You look like you've been doing quite well here."

"You're all shiny and glowy! It looks furry purretty on you." She snuggled on her a bit before letting go, taking a step back to look at her friend's new appearance properly. "And the Demonness wasn't a bother to you, right? I suppaws not, since you got here okay. I'm glad you found us so fast! Do you want me to show you to our camp or wait fur the others?"

She bounced on the spot in her excitement, before realizing she'd been asked a question. "Oh, yes, yes, I have! At furst I wasn't but now I'm furry comfurtable and happy here."

"I'm glad to hear that then. We can stay here for a moment, Karkat is coming to meet me here as well and I wouldn't want to miss him." Kanaya looked away for a moment. She didn't really want to answer the question an it was kinda rhetorical, but at the same time... "The Demoness was... very uh... Interesting. She wasn't a problem really." She wasn't a problem, but she did bother Kanaya. It just wasn't the sort of bothering Nepeta was asking about. She was plainly being avoidant, hiding something by turning away for that moment.

"Okay!" Nepeta took this as an invitation to plop down on the ground, her long coat tucked beneath her. If they're going to be waiting then they may as well be comfortable and catch up on things! "Ooh, she is, isn't she? Karkitty wasn't furry sure of her at furst I think, but now they seem to get along! And she's always been purrfectly nice to me."

She tilted her head up at Kanaya, thoughtful. Hmmm. "What did you think of her?" Of course she wasn't prying for information. She'd never!

...well, maybe a little.

Kanaya wasn't merely expecting that response, she was counting on it. Karkat may be a good friend and a good choice for discussing such matters but he had made his opinion on this rather clear. Nepeta would be less likely to object.

"Alright," she started, looking around to see if Karkat was nearby yet. "But when Karkat arrives we did not talk about this, OK? He already gave me a lecture about it on the way here and I would rather avoid a repeat performance in person." Kanaya sighed and checked around one more time. "When I first saw her I... I don't know. I was interested in her clothing I guess, because it was so unique and I've never met another troll who would wear something so... beautiful. When I realized that she was The Demoness, the handmaid of death... I wasn't afraid. I was intrigued. Our conversation was strange and succeeded best at convincing me that I should talk with her more."

Kanaya looked somewhat embarrassed. She had't had much time to think about the encounter, fielding text messages from her friends the whole way here. "I told Karkat that I thought she was... alluring. He overreacted, but at the same time I don't think he was that far off."

"Okay! My lips are sealed!" Nepeta mimed zipping her lips closed, leaning in towards Kanaya with every intention of listening intently to what she had to tell her. She was so curious now! But at the mention of Karkat not approving she started keeping one eye on their surroundings herself, not wanting him to catch them unawares and spoil this little chat.

However it was hard to keep alert for their leader's arrival when Kanaya was sharing something so interesting! And so appealing to Nepeta's shipper side as well. "You have a crush on her?? That's so cute!! She really is very pretty and dresses so nicely, just like you do, and she's interesting too so I can see why you'd like talking to her..."

Of course, that did leave the problem of who exactly the Handmaid was, and how dangerous she could be, not to even touch on how much older than them she was. But a crush was a crush was a crush, no matter how much or little sense it made. "I don't think there's anything wrong with talking to her a bit more if you like her!"

I didn't say that. I only met her the one time and we only talked for a few minutes before I left. I did find her interesting and I do want to talk with her more, but I don't know if I would call it a crush. I think she may have more information about what I have become, and that she may have some link to my past.

Nepeta giggled and nodded her head. "It's okay, I understand!" She won't point out that Kanaya herself had said that maybe Karkat wasn't overreacting; let her friend make of her new fascination whatever she wanted. "She really can be very nice, if you think she knows more things that are impurrtant for you to learn, you should ask her! I'm sure she'll tell you!"

Kanaya smiled and responded simply, "I certainly plan on it." A moment passes before she speaks up again. "It's good to see you again Nepeta. What..." Another hesitation..."What happened for you before you came here?"

"It's good to see you again too! I was hoping you'd come here, it's really a nice place! And I wanted Signless to get to meet you too!" She hesitated at that question then, but there was no getting around it. Everyone else knew anyway, considering the state Nepeta had arrived in. "Gamzee...Gamzee killed me."

"Oh.... I'm sorry..." Kanaya trails off as the awkwardness of the conversation left her unable to think of what else to say.

Nepeta rubbed at her face self-consciously - this was probably more awkward for Kanaya than it was for her, because at least she'd had some time to deal with it. "It's okay...I'm here, and Equius is here, and Gamzee knows what he did was terrible and has been really nice to me since I arrived. I don't like what happened but nothing's going to change it. I'm more upset about Equius but he's happy here too, so... It's okay, really, Kanaya."

"Alright. I was told that Gamzee and Eridan both know about the things they did... or will do. Karkat specifically warned me not to treat them how I otherwise might have." Kanaya allowed herself to smile at Nepeta. It certainly was a nice side effect of coming here that she could be with so many friends that she had lost.

"I was really scared of Gamzee at first, but now we're even better friends than before I think. I had...problems with Equius when I got here at first and Gamzee was there for me a lot and helped me feel better." She nodded, wanting to reassure Kanaya that there really wasn't any reason to treat Gamzee harshly because of what had happened. She was quite sure he hated himself for what he'd done already without the rest of them doing it too.

Kanaya is successfully reassured! Or at least she isn't as apprehensive about Gamzee as she would have been. She's still going to withhold judgement until she can see him for herself, but now she might just give him the benefit of the doubt.

"Well that does sound good. How long have you and the others been here? Karkat told me he's spent almost half a sweep in this place."

"Only a couple of perigees! The others have all been here much much longer I think. But it feels like time goes by faster here than it did in Alternia sometimes...maybe because most of the time we don't have to worry about being culled." She scoots over a bit closer to Kanaya, thinking that maybe more hugs are called for right now. "Anyway! You need to meet Signless soon! He spoke to you already, right? He really wants to meet you, I told him about you befur now."

Well now that topic certainly interested Kanaya. She seems intrigued as she starts to answer the catgirl's question. "He spoke to me over text. I haven't seen him in person yet, but I am interesting in doing so. What is he like? I've heard that my ancestor was important to him and that this may have some relevance to me, but I don't really know anything about either of them."

Nepeta beams as she thinks of the older troll, face lit up in fondness in a way it only ever used to for Equius before she’d arrived in Vatheon and acquired an adopted dad and a matesprit besides her beloved moirail. "He's amazing! He's just so nice and he cares about everyone, even the people who are mean to him. He was trying to make Alternia a better place for everyone. He probably only spoke to you over text so you wouldn’t be frightened…he knows that we didn’t have adults on the planet and that we’re a bit scared of them."

"But your ancestor was his lusus! I met her when she was here for a while, she was so nice too, pretty and elegant like you but older and very very tall! Because of…well, you know about Karkat’s blood, and Signless’ is the same, so he didn’t get a sign or a lusus when he was a grub so Miss Dolorosa decided to look after him herself instead. He’s very very fond of her."

Kanaya giggled a little at Nepeta's enthusiasm, but listened with rapt attention all the same. She did want to meet the Signless eventually, if for no other reason than his connection to her own ancestor. She did not expect just what that connection actually was, and was caught a little off guard by the strange story. "So she raised him from a grub? He seems to be quite an unconventional troll."

"She did! I think she used to take care of the Mother Grub befur that but she abandoned everything to look after him!" Nepeta may be dressing it up to sound more dramatic than it really was but that was essentially what she'd heard about the story, and she'd been impressed that an adult troll could care about a grub so much as to do such a thing for them. No wonder Signless loved her. Then again, she'd met the Dolorosa for herself and knew she was every bit as caring as an actual lusus, if not more so.

"He's furry unconventional. You should hear him speak..." She shook her head, unable to convey in words just what it was like. "When he's talking about something he believes in, you just have to believe it with him; he doesn't lie about some things being difficult or hard to achieve but he still makes you believe that they're possible and...oh, I can't explain it right myself! You need to hear him for yourself."

"I suppose I will have to do that sometime. Right now I'm still getting used to this place, but I'm sure I'll have time to meet him soon." Kanaya gave her friend another smile while she thought this over. Her lusus had told her that in the past the jadeblood caste would server the mother grubs, protecting and helping them. That was why mother grubs would only ever be a lusus for a jadeblood. In a way, The Dolorosa abandoning that duty to raise The Signless was very similar to her own lusus choosing to abandon her expected role and live as a virgin to raise her. Both were events so rare as to be without known precedent.

“He’ll be so happy! He gives the best hugs, you know.” Nepeta highly recommends Signless’ hugs. Nothing makes you happy quicker than a Signless!hug! Or maybe that was just her personal bias talking, but somehow she thought that Kanaya would like him at least nearly as much as Nepeta herself did. He was just so caring, he really was quite unique for a troll.

“Maybe once it’s safe to go back to our hives I can hold a tea party and invite him and you, and you can get to know each other that way! I know he won’t say no, he even comes over to play with me and Tavros because he knows it makes us happy so he’d come over for tea for sure if I asked him!”

I would like that I think. You might have to give me some time to get acclimated to this place. ~~, and to avoid a PIME TARADOX with meeting the signless before she meets the signless :D~~
So, do you and Tavros share a hive then?
