5 ♐ How to Quickly and Effeciently Traumatize Your Children

[Yes, there's the positively bewildering matter of Dualscar, and the much more terrifying matter of the Grand Highblood, but the more dangerous of the two has been dealt with. Even without that, the week has been almost... peaceful, even with the arrival of Mindfang and all the difficulties that caused. ]

[It's almost been nice. Then again, considering the date he and Summoner went on, perhaps he is slightly biased.]

[But now things are truly going to be back to normal with the return of Gamzee and Equius. They've been gone far too long, having to survive with dealing things up on the island. They deserve something good for once. So that's why he's in the kitchen, making breakfast. He still hasn't bothered to get his sunglasses back from the Helmsman, so it's the same cheap pair he's wearing again. Only he's a bit more casual today: glasses pushed up and resting against his horns, a tight blue tank top hugging his torso, and simple black slacks, his sign on one pocket. His hair is tied back once again in a loose, messy bun, strands still brushing against the nape of his neck and between his shoulder blades.]

[It's quite possibly the most casual he's looked in quite a while.]

[Pancakes, fruit, crepes, quice, bagels, a little something called Akki Rotti... It's all set up on the table already, and Darkleer is simply finishing up a last few dishes. Coffee cake and banana oatmeal bread, to be specific.]

[What? They eat a lot here.]

[Carefully removing the two from the pan, he asks over his shoulder to the troll who's been helping him all morning.]

Could you assist me with this? We'll be done after this.

[The last clear expression anyone can see is the way Darkleer glares pitifully at Summoner's back, as if saying How can you be so impossibly casual after all of that, it isn't FAIR before he reaches up and snaps his glasses back down again.]

[He hates his life.]

[Also shut up Equius!!!]

[Darkleer coughs into his fist before speaking.]

The food is ready, we just have to bring it out, excuse me.

[Retreating into the kitchen for the sink as well. Hey, Summoner, have him next to you, you come here often? Darkleer's voice is a mutter.]

I am going to drown myself, that was ridiculously embarrassing.

Uhh isn't a word Gamzee, out with it, kiddo.

[Smiles, and yeah, he's pretty carefree about it. Equius already knew anyway, and if anything, that little happening only shows that they're pretty fine in their relationship. All this shame though, it's pretty thick in the air. So when Darkleer stands next to him Summoner can't help but chuckle at his words. He moves a water slick had to lock with Darkleer momentarily, turning his head just a bit to press his cheek against the larger troll's upper arm.]

Oh come on, it'll do them good to see you're a troll, just like the rest of us.

[Also a low mutter before pressing his lips to Darkleer's arm, hands going to dry off on a single piece of paper towel before he turns around to face either of them again.]

Well? What are you standing there for? Go wash your hands, sheesh. We don't live in a fucking barn.

[Gamzee doesn't move yet, his eyes flicking from Summoner to Darkleer. It was pretty embarrassing to see, but there are more important things here.]

You bros are, fuck, you know... like that?

[Because there was one person here who didn't know.]

We don't live in a house of lewd, foul language either.

[Equius directs that at Summoner, but it's mostly snarkiness for the sake of snarking.]

Come on, Gamzee, let's go wash up.

He's disappointed, I can tell...

[But then Summoner is turning around to face them again and Darkleer sighs as he begins to wash his hands as well. This wasn't exactly how he planned introducing his relationship a bit more fully to the boys, but...]

[His thought process comes to a halt at Equius' words, however, and he turns his head with a raised eyebrow.]

How very curious. I was under the impression that we lived in a household where all parties agree that Gamzee inhales and exhales lewd, foul language on a regular basis and it is thus to be ignored for the sake of our sanity.

Curious.

[Translation: Don't start, son.]

[Drying off his hands, Darkleer shakes his head and guides Summoner by the arm to the pair and gently pushes him in Gamzee's direction. And if his fingertips linger just a bit on his scarred skin, affectionate like he'll lose him before he can believe it... Well.]

Lysunder, why don't you go and assist Gamzee with cleaning up for breakfast, while Equius and I use the kitchen sink?

[Yes, both of them could easily share, but he wants to have a discussion, alright. Please!]

"Uh, yeah, 'like that'. As in I am doing your STRONG dad, that's for sure. Hm-?"

[Feels a tug on his arm as Darkleer directs him and his wings rustle a little bit, glancing at him with a questioning look. It doesn't take him long at all to realize he wants some alone time with Equius so Summoner just smiles and nods, not at all minding how long his touch lasts. Just like he didn't seem to even notice Equius comment about his language. Because, yeah, Gamzee? Shove it, Equius. Gosh.]

Sure thing, babe.

[A smirk, looking at Gamzee now. Summoner moves forward and in one swooping motion puts his shoulder near the joint of his hips and swings him up. Gamzee's legs bent near one side of his head, dangling behind him like a sack of root vegetables.]

Up we go kid, time to clean those grimy hands o' yours.

[And with that he'll make his way out of the kitchen and to the bathroom. Try not to get a mouth full of bare back, Gamzee, he's carrying you all the way there.]

[Gamzee yelps in surprise for a moment, and then there is nothing but laughter. Go ahead, Summmoner. Cart him off to wherever you want. He's cool with it. He does push himself upright against his back for a moment to give Equius a little wave, before he is all to happy to let himself be hauled away. Hey, he doesn't get carried often, okay. It is awesome when it does happen.]

[Equius watches Gamzee and Summoner go, then turns and walks up to the kitchen sink, standing beside Darkleer. He doesn't normally sass the older troll, but he's pretty irritated right now... in no small part because he wanted to spend some quality time with his ancestor that he hasn't seen much of, and now there's this interloper in their hive, and he doesn't like it!]

Really, Darkleer? Really?

[Yes, well, he wasn't expecting a good reaction after that.]

[Sighing, Darkleer lets Equius go past him and simply leans his back against the counter besides him. He pinches the bridge of his nose wearily. He really hoped that he wouldn't have to have this conversation.]

I know, I know, I am well aware of my own hypocrisy. I didn't expect it to happen, and I certainly didn't expect it to escalate. I... am quite sorry you had to witness that.

[What is this? Some casual time with the Gamster? Lacking all tension and stress unlike that kitchen that's pretty much swimming in it likes it's tar? Awesome! Summoner is pretty high spirited, how couldn't he be? Spent that last few days with someone he really enjoys the company of, he's half naked in some huge, comfortable pants, and he loves breakfast, and kids, he's pretty cheery.]

[His magical earrings make the halls a lot easier to navigate and when he gets to the bathroom he sets Gamzee down in the shower stall and shrugs, hands up at his sides, palms to the ceiling, elbows bent.]

All right, time to hose you down, Zee.

[Nope. First gotta talk about important things!]

Hehehe, you and Darkleer, huh? Congrats.

[He absolutely doesn't have a problem with it. More people having good times together. What is the harm in that. Besides, this is a nice step towards something he has been trying to do for a while anyway.]

You gonna make him happy?

[Oh. Okay. Unexpected, but definitely appreciated!]

[Equius busies himself washing his hands, happy to be using a sink again. Camping is fun, but so is running water and sleeping in real beds.]

Um... thanks, I guess.

[Darkleer is close enough for Equius to lean over and rest the side of his head on his shoulder.]

He's not going to be here all day, right?

[Listen, Darkleer is willing to admit when he's messed up... So long as the issue is simple black and white anyway. ~~Please don't talk about Signless.~~]

[As Equius leans against him, Darkleer reaches around with his hand and runs his hands through his hair.]

If you don't want him to be here, I'm sure he'll understand if I tell him to leave. He isn't... Well, no, it would be an outright lie to say he isn't as bad as he appears. I am dreadfully afraid that he is an uncouth, vulgar humored scoundrel who rarely knows when to shut his mouth. However...

[Darkleer leans back against Equis and continues the soft, repetitive motions of his hand.]

I am flushed for him. He has done quite a few things for me, even if he hasn't realized it.

[The least not being just... simply feeling towards him. Loving him. After exile, he never thought he would ever be granted such a thing. Would never be allowed to. Who would want him?]

So please... I will not ask you to care for him like you do me. But... I request that you be at least cordial.

Heh, yeah, uh, worked out like that.

[A slight flush returns to his face but it leaves as quickly as it came, moving to the sink and jerking his head a little, gesturing for Gamzee to get over to the sink. Weirdo, why is he in the shower stall?]

I'm pretty sure that is what I am supposed to be doing? His happiness is important, and if he gets it while with me then hot damn.

[A smile, a little weary, it's just weird talking about this to anyone, and he likes Gamzee, sure, but he's still a little on edge around him.]

We'll see how this goes. I'm pretty much a kid still, so uh, what do I know, hey?

[Gamzee trots over --yes, why was he in the shower stall that is silly!-- turning the tap the splash water over his hands and clean them.]

Motherfucker all be deserving of that fuckin' miracle happiness, you know? It'll all be real fuckin' good for his to done have a bro there to help him get it.

And I ain't seeing why a motherfucker gotta be fuckin' old to do that shit for one of his peeps, you get? Age ain't all important. It's where your pump is at what does count.

[Equius is pretty sure he could never care for another of the adult trolls the way he cares about Darkleer, but he nods, leaning into those soothing, comforting hands in his hair. Aurthor used to brush his hair like this, and he closes his eyes.]

Okay. I can do that.

[And then, maybe because this is what Aurthor used to do when he was upset, or maybe just because it's been a very stressful couple of weeks, Equius bumps his head on Darkleer's chest and makes a low, rumbling horse noise, deep in his throat.]

Good boy.

[It's nice, just being like this, and Darkleer finds himself relaxing once more. The sound is slightly surprising, even for all its familiarity. After a moment, he leans in, remembering both things from his childhood and times during the fairytale curse as he makes a low soft snort in his throat and ruffles Equius' hair slightly with his breath.]

Uh, it's not really about age, more about experience? I guess... I'm a kid in that sense.

[A small smile, leaning back against the wall near the sink.]

You might have to give me a few pointers in the future for this quadrant business okay? [A small sigh.]

And uh, sometimes it's not as easy to act on what your blood chamber wants, you know? So I might get a little mixed up here and there. Heh.

Sure. You should ask Karkat too. Brother got all that fuckin' romance shit down in his pan, you get? Gets his glad on like nothing else.

[He finishes cleaning his hands, turning off the water and then just drying them on his shirt.]

And like I got my feeling on here for if you just all trying to keep making a motherfucker smile, it done will be aight. Miracles everywhere all getting their happen on if you do that.

[Equius doesn't want to move; he didn't quite realize how much he missed Darkleer until this very moment. But he can't say that, those things are hard to say, so he does the next best thing: he makes the low, whickering noise Aurthor used to make when Equius had been gone for a few hours, or a few days, and the lusus had been left to his own devices. It was soft, quiet, and it meant I missed you.]

[Slowly but firmly, Darkleer wraps his arms further around him, pulls him close to press his face between his horns. He continues the soft snorting through his nose, and begins to knead at Equius' back. The same familiar sounds he can remember from his own childhood, when he and his lusus were finally reunited and he checked for all signs of damage on his charge.]

Heh, I uh, doubt Karkat would want to talk to me about anything like that. But maybe I'll hit the kid up, especially if it seems to put him in a better mood to talk about. I haven't really uh, gotten to talk to him about anything with a more positive feel, usually... it was always something pretty serious and usually with some negative attributes acquainted with it.

[A little babbling, he realizes, but still somewhat nervous to be talking about this kind of thing with Gamzee. For various reasons, indigo, not wanting to make any bad impressions on someone Darkleer lives with (cause god knows Equius and Summoner are so gosh darned buddy buddy).]

[A glance to Gamzee drying his hands off on his shirt.]

That kinda defeats the purpose of washing your hands, kid. [A slight laugh, shaking his head as he starts out of the bathroom.]

Smile? Nah, not just smile. Hell, you should hear Darkleer laugh. Now that's a treat. [Grin.]

See, I'm just all like thinkin' here like... if you up and give Karkat a fuckin' chance to talk romance, brother will be all over that all what like a motherfuckin' clown on a bottle of wicked elixir. Would done be a good time for you motherfuckers to all become bros too, yeah?

[Setting up playdates for Karkat. That is a moirail thing to do right.

Then he pauses though. Pauses and just stares at Summoner.]

... he laughs? For serious? You ain't just yanking my hoof here?

[If Lily could see this, she'd probably have all kinds of comments about trolls and their familial instincts. Fortunately, she's not here, because that would certainly embarrass the two bluebloods. It's also good that Karkat isn't here, because he might make a comment to the effect of "now KISS," except with more profanity.]

[Equius nickers again, rubbing his forehead against Darkleer's chest, before leaning back a little and looking up at the older troll.]

Should we finish making breakfast, then?

Of course. Lysunder was supposed to assist me in putting everything on the table, but he has all the focus of a very oblivious squirrel at times.

Come. Let's go.

[With one last brush of his fingers against Equius' hair, Darkleer pulls away and begins to start the movement of food over to the dining table. It should be big enough for all that's been made.]
