I can't go back to yesterday because I was a different person then
Who: Sola and Vatheon
When: The wee hours of the morning
Where: Plaza
Style: Brackets
Status: Open to all CR great and small!
[At first the Hylian doesn't recognize where he is.
There's a heavy and wild intake of breath as if he doesn't expect for his lungs to expand. He scrambles for the nearest cover, nearly bowling over a hapless towel vendor in the process. He merges into the shadow of a building, nothing visible aside from piercing red eyes as he finally pauses to take in his surroundings, tense and suspicious.
What had Link done? He'd thought he'd been done for, that Ganon's resurrection was a failure purely because again he hadn't been able to spill the hero's blood. And he'd had so much time to plan, to send minions and monsters after him all along, to observe and prepare. But maybe that had been the problem, he'd waited too long. He should have attacked at the beginning when he'd been- well, not weak, he'd still defeated the Demon King, but when Link had his guard down during the reconstruction...
Dark Link's train of thought grinds to a halt as he finally connects where he is, as the jumble of memories he'd ignored suddenly appearing in his mind in favor of adrenaline still surging from his life or death battle start to sort themselves out slowly. They're hardly finished, but he knows this place now. He recognizes it.
Still standing in the shadows but no longer a part of them, Dark Link just stares.
Vatheon.
Home.]

Vatheon.
Home.]
no subject
Or so he hopes.
But still he hesitates, no longer melded with the shadows but still under their cover with a hand on the wall to his right. Even if he expects their meeting to be calm, that Dirk would even welcome him back, he's afraid.
So much has changed now, it's been so long even if Vatheon doesn't seem to have changed. What can he say?
He shifts his feet uncomfortably, then decides he's being a coward and forces himself to step into the light regardless.]
Hello, Dirk.
no subject
Recognition, on his part, is instantaneous and obvious, because even if he doesn't smile, the readiness for a fight leaves him. He's no longer about to call his sword out of his sylladex if he needs it. He even moves a step closer.]
That's one question I don't have to ask.
[He pauses for another moment, examining Sola again. It wasn't three days, but if Sola remembers, then he's not exactly the same as all the new arrivals they've gotten, either. Besides, something seems different now. And not just that Sola really looks older than him now.]
You only missed a month on our end of things.
no subject
[His voice is even and betrays very little about how uncomfortable he really is, but actually speaking to Dirk, having him standing right there is a welcome sight and Dark Link realizes he missed him even if he hadn't remembered him for the years he was away.]
It's good to see you
no subject
[That explains a lot, but it also brings up plenty of questions about what Sola went through while he was back at home. The even voice is a definite indication, in Dirk's mind, that Sola has changed a lot. He remembers Sola as being plenty expressive and energetic.]
You glad to be back?
no subject
[It's been so long, after all. It's all foggy in his mind but he's slowly clearing it out, like shedding a light on forgotten sections of his memory.]
I think I am. It's... well it's better than where I was.
[He rubs his neck, sighing.]
I died, I think. Again. But I deserved it.
no subject
But that's hardly the most important thing that he just said.]
Deserved it? How?
no subject
[It's not an attempt at humor at all. That actually happens.]
Ganon controlled me again. I don't think I'll ever be free of him any time I'm in Hyrule...
no subject
[There are some ideas forming in his head. Nineteen years for Sola, and already Dirk's preparing to put things in perspective if he can. Some things might never change.]
no subject
[He closes his eyes.]
He gave me orders before he went to fight Link, told me I had to resurrect him using the blood of the hero if he failed. I tried to resist, but-
[Dark Link shakes his head.]
No, that's not true. I didn't even try. I didn't know to try, but... it's like with your robots. If you're made for a specific purpose, then it's just instinct to fulfill that purpose.
[He looks at Dirk again, almost as if asking for forgiveness, silently pleading with his eyes.]
So I did what I was told.
no subject
Let me say this point blank: he is a dick of the highest caliber.
Sure, he created you. But he didn't create a robot. He created a person. And you shouldn't make people to control them.
no subject
It's nice to laugh again in earnest and not tying to sound diabolical.
He straightens back up once he's gotten it all out, wiping his eyes with occasional errant giggles.]
Thank you, Dirk.
no subject
[But he's smiling himself, just the slightest bit.]
C'mon, I bet there're tons of people who'll be glad to see you. Practically drowned in tears when we figured out you were gone.
no subject
[Even so, he has plenty of people he wants to see regardless. Now that he's back and remembers just how many friends he had, he realizes how much he missed them - or should have, though he feels he's making up for it now. It's overwhelming though and he hesitates.]
I don't know...
no subject
no subject
You don't have to get pissed for me. He's dead now.
no subject
[He nudges back anyway.]
You grabbed any towels yet?
no subject
No, but it doesn't really matter. Watch.
[For a split second, Sola seems to vanish, leaving just a puddle behind. A moment later he steps out of Dirk's own shadow, completely dry.]
Cool, right?
no subject
He draws to a complete halt as Sola disappears, then turns the moment he sees Link moving out of his own shadow.]
Damn, that's handy.
no subject
Hopefully it'll be of some help here.
no subject
[Also creepy, but Sola wouldn't be one to use it in that kind of way, as far as Dirk is aware.]
So keep practicing, bro.
no subject
[He shrugs, but here's hoping it'll also keep him from being sent away again, somehow. For as guilty as he feels and awkward as it is being back, this is more home than Hyrule ever felt to him.]
no subject
[By now, Dirk is fully into theorizing mode. Sola might just want to steer him in another direction, or he'll talk about this forever.]
no subject
[Might just be a little bitter about that. Just a little.]
