32 - Soldier [ OPEN ]
Who: Duke Pantarei and YOU
What: There's someone taking up a park bench and generally being unhelpful and lazy. Bother him if you like~
When: Wed - Sat, day time,
Where: Some random bench outside.
Status: Open like an open thing
Style: Starting prose, action if you like
Out and about and fighting crime and looking for a breather for your snack or lunch? This isn't the place to sit. There's someone sprawled out on this park bench, book in hand. In fact, Duke is so terribly focused on his book, he won't look up if anyone stops by and gives him looks of 'you are only one person, why are you taking up the whole bench.'
Well. "If you move to the left, you'll cast shade on the pages."
So maybe he did notice. He clearly doesn't care.
(OOC: Duke can tell where any metal is, so long as it isn't organic metal. Are you wearing a metal zipper? Buttons? knives or guns? Totally knows its there. Its probably what he's talking about in terms of 'a person is there')

Managing to avoid most of the majour incidents along the way, the Lombax comes across a man he doesn't recall seeing before. Either another new arrival, or simply one other spared of the city's insanity.
And not giving a Kerchu's left whisker about it, either.
The Lombax raises a brow at the lazy being, folding his arms over his chest.
"Other citizens may be in need of a rest as well, you know."

"There are other benches. And trees." Duke...
Yeah, he still doesn't care much at all, still not looking up. He turns a page before continuing to speak.
"... or the ground. Its perfectly acceptable to sit on that as well."
no subject
"With all the crime in the city, I'd check my pockets for bolts, if I were you. Laying out here in itself isn't the wisest action."
no subject
"Its terribly boring, but not quite worth the effort to go seeking anything."
... and yeah, he's still reading.
no subject
"I assure you, anything is far more interesting than... this. Whatever this is."
Thirty seconds before he snatches that book out of your hands.
"If you could at least lift your head."
no subject
"Music history, today. Tomorrow it might be the application of astronomy for sea navigation, or general anatomy."
And a vague blink over in the right direction.
"... I don't think that would provide much room."
no subject
no subject
"Its not mine, so damaging it would be rude."
... But Duke, you're being terribly rude.
no subject
"Look, all I'm saying is to get someplace safe before you're either attacked or killed out here. The city's under a curse, there's no predicting what can happen."
no subject
"Your worry is touching." This is faint sarcasm. Why are you terribly worried again? "So long as it isn't... wooden bolts, with no metal at all, if such a thing exists, I should have no problems dealing with attackers."
Stone tipped things, well, those are a bit archaic.
"Nor am I so foolish to be out unarmed." He's just... not visibly so.

things i have no icons for ever-
Dammit, Ioder, now his book is on the ground and maybe half of him too.
eyup
"You shouldn't take up the whole bench."
no subject
But Ioder, he can't be terribly comfortable, honest.
no subject
"It's still rude, you know."
no subject
"... If I promise to move, will you get off me?"
no subject
no subject
"... I promise to move."
So Ioder will stop sitting on him, right? And also stop making him feel like a large child?
no subject
... yeah it's more likely than one might think.
"Good!"
And off he goes, bouncing off to the side with a proud-smug smile.

Duke sighs and gets off the bench, more or less setting his appearance to rights as well as getting over the 'I was just sat on' feeling. For a moment, he's severely tempted to lay oddly on the section of the bench he could claim without being rude, upside down, perhaps? But that would be a short lived reading position...
Congratulations, Ioder, Duke is sitting like a normal person on the bench now.
no subject
Ioder smiles brightly, pleased with his accomplishment here. He drops down next to Duke.
"Good book, I take it?"
no subject
"Something based off of curiosity directed at you." Its music-theory.
no subject
Ioder doesn't bother leaning over to look at the book himself; he figures Duke will tell him since he brought it up.

Faris saw him reading away and decided to stop and nudge at the book with his hand to check out the cover. Don't mind him in any personal space, right?
"What has your interest this time, bucko?"
Faris might be helping himself to the loot of the curse, but he definitely wasn't hit with alternate memories and new powers.

"Music theory. Those odd little symbols on lines mean quite a few things." Although there is a blink after that. Should he know you more than vaguely.
no subject
[Yep, Dhaos is pretty clearly not bothered by his partner's usual lack of enthusiasm. He's used to it, and his own reasons for helping the citizens of the city aren't really for their benefit in the grand scheme of things. Hence the reason he's here instead of doing something useful like patrolling or helping some poor old lady across the street; he just doesn't feel like it right now.]
I brought dried mango, if you would like a slice or two.
[Clearly these two are paragons of justice.]

Duke blinks over, because this is a voice he generally listens to, then sighs.
Really, what he does to shift is... stick most of his legs over the thin arm at the end of the bench and take up that half instead.
He even tucks his hair back over his shoulder so Dhaos doesn't sit on it. ]
If you don't want to finish all of it.
[ Which is Duke for "yes". ]
no subject
I came prepared. There are slices enough that we should both be able to eat our fill.
no subject
[ He's just vaguely amused. It worked, after all.
Duke may take some time to actually reach a hand up and try to find the bag. He's not quite distracted from his book enough to turn his head and try to look, though.
Really lazy guy- ]
no subject
Sorry, I don't live to make your life comfortable. I barely have time for myself.
[He'll notice that she's wearing a pendant and many knives strapped to her thighs for some reason. Protection. Protection, okay?]
no subject
Ah. It wouldn't really be either - un or comfortable.
[ Some people seem to think that putting a shadow on reading material might get attention on them, rather than the book.
Guess what Duke is still paying attention to. ]
no subject
Well, I can see that you're busy. Have a good day, sir.
[Yep, she sure is walking off in the direction she was headed in to begin with.]
no subject
Duke doesn't do more than lazily wave at her as she walks off.
Bye, lady. ]

When Duke speaks, he looks up from the pad of paper he's writing on, taken by surprise. "Excuse me?"
no subject
He blinks over to him.
"... that doesn't seem very comfortable." Whether he's talking about standing and writing, or having metal all sorts of places-
no subject
He is, however, still confused, in no small part because he doesn't follow the sudden change in topic. "I don't understand what you mean."
