Equius had resisted for a long time. He remembered the last time this curse came around, and how he got stuck first in a cat hat and then up on the roof with no way to get down. He was not going to be wearing any strange hats this time around!

Of course, Vatheon had a different plan in mind for him, and when he got up this morning, a hat got knocked off the headboard and stuck on his head.

Now anyone walking past Equius' home--or anywhere in the general neighborhood--will hear a deep, thumping beat and see red lights strobing away. If you come inside, you'll be assaulted by music, killbots standing along the walls with their eyes flashing in perfect synchrosity, and all the furniture pushed aside to make room for this.

Sollux actually managed to escape the lure of the hats this week. As he walks past the house, he pauses at the sound of the deep bass. Curiosity is just too much, and he walks up and pushes the door open enough to see what's going on.

"Holy shit," he says, staring. "Equius?"

Equius stops rolling around on the floor breakdancing when he hears Sollux's voice, and he jumps to his feet. "Sollux!" He charges over to his friend, leaving a veritable mist of sweat droplets in his wake, and tries to thrust something into his hands. "Here!"

It's a pair of glow sticks.

[Sollux braces himself to stop Equius if he tries to grab him, but instead he finds himself holding a pair of glow sticks in his hands. He waves them around a little.]

You have got to be kidding me.

[Equius falls to the floor again--at a safe distance--and starts dancing.]

Use your eyes like strobe lights!

[Sollux will just...facepalm, then try to figure out how to do that. Soon his eyes are flashing red and blue]

[Sorry, can't hear you, too busy appreciating the blinking strobe light effect and dancing like crazy. Hope you don't mind the sweat splatter, bro.]

Nepeta doesn't seem to be particularly affected by the curse, but that hasn't stopped her from joining in all the fun her moirail is having! She's found herself a little corner with plenty of lights on her and is dancing away like she's never danced before.

Equius dances his way next to her and continues rocking out. Hopefully she doesn't mind a fine spray of sweat when he gets close.

Her nose does wrinkle as she gets drenched, but she doesn't let that stop her or slow her down one bit. Nope, not when it's party time! She keeps on dancing, but in a circle around him this time, oh yeah.

Aw yeah, taking center stage. Equius pulls a pair of glow sticks out of his sylladex and starts waving them around while he dances, making symbols in the air in the shape of their signs.

"Wheee!" She bops about, not particularly keeping time to the music, but having an enormous amount of fun all the same. If anything her eyes seem to be focusing on the shiny bright sticks...

Equius recognizes the look in her eyes, and he speeds up, moving the sticks so fast they're just a blur of light.

Equius. Equius, no, this is not a good idea. Her dancing gradually slows to a halt as her eyes fix themselves on the moving light, and then...mrow! She leaps!

The exact moment she leaps, Equius stops moving his arms and holds them in a catching position so she'll land right in them. If she lands correctly, he'll start spinning her in circles next.

Oh her paws, this is amazing! She somehow lands just right, and therefore much spinning in circles is had, with Nepeta loudly yelling about how much fun this is.

They spin in circles until Equius gets dizzy and has to set her down. He staggers a little, eventually sitting down on the floor, dripping sweat and out of breath. Time to get a towel and wipe his face off.

He's not the only one who's ended up dizzy! Nepeta flops over the moment he sets her down, eyes wide and dazed. "I think the room is going around, Equius," she tells her moirail after a moment.

"Yeah..." Equius flops on his back, staring at the ceiling with rapt fascination. "Just go with it... embrace the feeling."

Nepeta isn't sure if that's a good idea when the feeling is that she's about to lose her lunch. She closes her eyes tight, trying to get rid of the dizziness.

"Nepeta!" Equius flops his arm out close to her. "Hold my hand!"

Someone thinks he's going to spin off the floor and stick to the ceiling of the bubble.

She grabs hold of his hand, eyes still squeezed shut. "This wasn't as good an idea as I thought it was at furst..."

"Can't you see all the colors?" He might sound like he's dipped into Gamzee's slime, but Equius is just in the mindset of a raver. A raver who has taken a lot of Ecstasy, apparently.

"Ughh...no. No, I don't want to see any colours," she tells him, wincing a little. Perhaps this would be easier if she was cursed too. Even a kitty troll can have herself too much fun.

"You need a hat." Equius flops back down, content to watch the colors swirl across the ceiling. "Dancing is much better when you've got a hat and can see the colors."

"But I have my kitty hat!" she insists while flopping over and trying to crawl onto his chest with her eyes still closed. "It's the best hat and I don't want another one."

"Whoah..." Equius holds still, amazed at the rasp of her coat against his skin. Did it always feel that good? "Does your cat hat make you, like, think you're a cat?"

"No, silly. Being a kitty troll makes me think I'm a cat! Because I am one!" Purrrr. She's a lot happier now that she's curled up on top of her meowrail.

Oh wow, now she's purring? Vibrations, man... Equius is blissing out underneath her, laying flat and limp and enjoying all the heightened sensations. "Yeah, cat troll... does that make me a hoofbeast?"

"Hmmm," she says thoughtfully, finally cracking her eyes open again and taking a peek at his face. Wow, he looks even more relaxed than after a good papping! "I suppaws it can! If you want it to."

"Good." Equius closes his eyes and smiles doofily. "I always wanted to be a hoofbeast."

"I know," she tells him, looking at that smile of his and smiling herself. "You would make the very best hoofbeast."

Equius lays still for awhile, his brain moving in lazy circles. "Hey... how do hoofbeasts keep their legs organized? Why don't they trip over them when they're walking?"

"I don't know! The same way kitties do, I suppaws. When I was a kitty for a while it was easy, it just came naturally." Her tail twitches about a little, but otherwise she's well and truly flopped onto him and not moving by now.

"Mmmmm... I was a hoofbeast once. Twice! I had a tail and four legs and everything. Darkleer rode on my back." He means the chocobo, not the ancestor, back when he was just a tiny feathery asshole instead of a giant one.

"That must have been fun," she tells him, yawning and stretching out. "Next time we need to be a kitty and a hoofbeast together and I'll ride on your back."

Chelle... the next time a curse happens, Equ should be a cat and Nep a horse!

"It was fun." He stares at the ceiling more, very happy and content with her on his chest. "I'd like that. We should ask the scientists to make us kitties and hoofbeasts again."

"Do you think they would?" she asks him, looking contemplatively at her hands. To knead herself a comfortable spot or not... "I'd like that lots if they would!"

Equius is so doofy right now he wouldn't mind her kneading at all! "I don't know, but we can ask, right? They can't get mad about asking..."

"When this curse is over we'll try that," she decides with a nod. Who would ever get mad about them asking for a tiny thing like that, right?

"Okay," Equius agrees, and closes his eyes again. "I love you, Nepeta." In that moirail kind of way, but he assumes she realizes that.

"I love you too, Equius," she tells him, understanding perfectly. "Furever and ever."

Things Dirk expects to hear when he is around Equius's house: the sounds of robots being made. Things he doesn't expect to hear: well... this. It's definitely worth investigating, and once he finds the party, he's very glad he did. (There may or may not be a few pictures taken.) Once that's done, though, he claps a few times. Hopefully it can be heard over the music.

Equius looks up where he hears the clapping, although he doesn't stop dancing. Instead, he tosses a glow stick in Dirk's direction.

Dirk grabs the glowstick out of the air, and, after a moment, shrugs, hangs it off a belt loop, and steps forward. Might as well join in, right? Right. Surely nothing about this could go wrong.

Awwww yeah, bro dance time! Equius moves aside to give Dirk more room, and tries to tame his flying feet. Those things are hard to tame, though.

From here the hat is just a bit obvious, even if the whole party didn't make it clear that something was up here. But he said he'd join, so he will, obviously.

It's a good thing he devoted so much of his time to learning random things, because it means he at least knows some basics of breakdancing.

Equius scoots to the side to give Dirk some room, and stops dancing long enough to slam a bottle of milk that's strategically nearby. Other ravers chug water bottles, he chugs milk. Totally logical.
