Chocobo Rescue Mission!~

Who: Selphie, a herd of chocobos, and you!~
When: All day long!
Where: Some on the island, some in the bubble.

Once Selphie had sorted herself out after being hit on the head and winding up on the island, her first thought was to everything below. Sure, that meant the stuff in her house was ruined and, sadly, probably a lot of damage to the flower shop where she worked too. Her main concern, though, was for all those chocobos. Selphie had felt responsible for them since they appeared in the bubble, and she's been looking after them carefully for a long time. There was still a small herd of them at the chocobo barn, and the thought terrified Selphie.

So she was on a rescue mission! It would take her most of the day to get down to the barn, getting two chocobo at a time, lead them to the elevator, get them in there and up to the top, then to lead them to the clearing in the woods where she had set up camp. So you'll either find Selphie a) wading through water in the bubble along with two rather tired and bewildered chocobos, or b) walking them into the woods to her brand new small holding, and trying to warm them with a fire. In the morning, Selphie will be looking excited and chipper, by the afternoon, she'll be a little worn out but still smiling, by the evening, she'll be singing to them softly, but fighting off her own sleepiness. Maybe you'll catch her sometime - she's pretty friendly and she'll no doubt go fetch something for you from the bubble if you need it too!

Cloud was, mostly, unfazed by the flooding of the bubble. He didn't have a lot of things, having not been here long enough for them to accumulate. He supposed it would suck to help Tifa redecorate her apartment with everything getting ruined by the water below, but it was a minor inconvenience that he didn't have to worry about just yet.

Instead, he'd been exploring the island. It was his first time up here, really, as he hadn't had the chance to before. Settling in and catching up with Zack had been more time consuming than he had imagined it would be. Now, with little choice otherwise, he had been glad to break away and wander around, taking in the new scenery in his own pace. It was quiet enough, peaceful compared to some places he'd been, and he was greatly enjoying the fresh air.

What he hadn't been expecting was to see chocobos. Wet chocobos, even, but they were a little hard to not recognize. He couldn't help but move to get closer, just in case he was seeing things, not fully aware that hey, maybe these belonged to someone. Don't mind Cloud just trudging on in to your camp, Selphie.

Despite the warning, Undertaker still spent most of his time down in the city with the raising waters. After all it was likely that the most interesting things would occur there and it would be the most likely place he would find a guest and have the opportunity to study the manner in which people came back. Sitting on a rise above the water he recognized the face of the girl leading the birds and called out.

"I was wondering if anyone was going to come back for them~ There's quite a lot of things that have been left behind, a lot of pets which were forgotten."

For now the bubble reminded him of being on that ship as it sank, the people feverishly trying to climb over one another and forgetting so much and leaving so much to try and save themselves.

It was back down into the bubble! Sora had of course managed to save all of his own animals, 5 dogs and 3 cats, but he knew there had to be other pets who weren't so lucky! He was going around trying to find them when he heard the kwee kwee of a chocobo's cry. What was that sound? He headed over and stared in surprise when he saw the chocobos.

"Whoa...is that?" He hurried over at a run, not really thinking about accidentally startling the birds. "Are those really chocobos?" Sora looked excited.

Selphie was standing behind a small group of chocobos she now had gathered up on the island. It bugged her that she couldn't do too much to get them dry too quickly, but she was doing her best with a couple of blankets, encouraging the birds to stand close. "Okay guys, just a few more hours and all the rest will be up here and we'll be totally safe, I promise!"

As she came around the gathering of chocobos, she petted one or two of them on their sides, giggling as one nudged her with its beak. Then she noticed Cloud and she smiled, not sure that she recognised him but friendly just the same, "Hi!"

One or two of the birds squawked and flapped their wings, taking a step or two to hide behind Selphie. The others just glanced at him, maybe tilting their head in curiosity. Selphie was in the middle of tying a couple of the birds together, ready for the march up to the island, when she heard Sora and laughed, "Sure are!"

Selphie paused when she heard someone call out, the birds stopping just beside her, as she was still holding onto a rope that kept them together. "Lots of pets forgotten? Really?" She looked quite horrified at the idea, especially since her first thought had been for her cat, and the chocobos. "Do you know where they are?"

Italy had set up camp along near the abandoned lab to cook for anyone who was hungry. That didn't mean the country wouldn't go wandering off by himself irresponsibly. He had some helpers to cover when he did, though.

But anyway, this was one of those times where Italy had wandered off. The noise of chocobos shook him for a moment but he saw an old friend with them and figured, if she's there, they mustn't be that scary.

"Selphie!" he shouted at her~

"I wonder, where. Most of them have left for higher ground, though I've found a few that were straying around." Undertaker manages to hold up a small puppy that he had found wandering around in the waters earlier. Before jumping down and splashing only a few feet away from Selphie. "It could take some time to track them all down."

"Wow!" Sora moved a little slower now. He didn't want to startle the poor things again. "I've never seen one up close before!"

He'd heard about them sure, but he'd never seen them up in person like this. "They're a lot bigger than I thought!"

"Do you need help getting them up to the island?" No way could they stay down here and still be safe. Birds weren't meant to swim!

Some of the birds seem completely disinterested but, seeing that Selphie isn't threatened in any way, the others make movements towards Sora, tilting their heads this way and that.

"Never seen a chocobo before, huh?" Selphie smiled at Sora and nodded. "Sure, why not? I'll give you the well behaved ones, and I'll just tie up these guys here. Think that sounds okay?" She held the rope in her hand, offering it over to Sora. The two she'd been ready to take up were very docile, the two she started to tie up seemed a bit more...crazy.

"That puppy was left all on its own?" Clearly, Selphie is more than a little outraged by the idea. She stares at the poor puppy, her eyes both angry and sad. "What should we do? We have to find them all! There's no way we can just let them drown!"

Selphie patted a chocobo lightly on its neck before hearing the voice. Of course she recognised it and, besides, there was only one person who she was used to hearing shout her name, rather than just say it quietly. She turned to see Italy and grinned, waving a hand, "Hi Italy! Having fun up on the island?"

He trotted up then gave Selphie a rather large, happy hug. "Si, si. It's nice to be on the beach! It's like when Germany, Japan, and I camped out there, just without America popping out of the bushes. I've set up a mini cafe too."

"Nope!" Sora reached out to take the rope and to try and pet one of the birds. "I've only heard about them before."

Sora was so entranced by the birds that he didn't really notice how closely Selphie resembled someone from back home.

"Will you be okay with those?" He looked over towards the other chocobos. They did seem a little froggy.

[Things are out of the ordinary in terms of being relocated from down below to an island. Aya kept busy by helping others when needed. He had seen Selphie, and really wished she would be more careful after seeing that bump to her head. Nonetheless, he let her do what she must while he did the same.]

[At the end of the day, while tired and weary, he goes in search of her, sword in hand. It was the only possession he bothered taking with him during this whole mess. Everything else could be replaced. He finds her, but he doesn't expect to see her surrounded by these chocobo she told him about. It's a cute sight, really. Aya makes his way over to her, not wanting to interrupt.]

*Selphie had been calming down the chocobos, now that they were finally all together. She strokes them gently, humming softly to them, one or two swaying their heads from side to side. She senses one or two of them turning, and she follows their gaze to Aya. Selphie smiles, moving away from the chocobos and waving slightly*

Hey! I was wondering when you'd come by. I got something to show you!

*Still smiling, Selphie reaches forward to take the hand that wasn't holding the sword and leads him carefully around the group of large birds. In front of them were several troughs full of soil. One has orange pansies, one just green buds, and the other pink carnations*

It was all I could rescue...

Sorry, things took a bit longer to finish up. [He responds with a smile. At the mention of something to show him, Aya looks curious and follows along with Selphie, very used to holding her hand by now. Another unexpected surprise: troughs of flower beds. He looks bewildered and kneels in front of one with the green bulbs.]

How... [Aya looks over to her with a bittersweet smile.] You shouldn't have risked doing this, but...thank you. [He looks back to the trough before standing up.] If I had known you were going to do this, I would have helped.

That's okay! This whole island thing has been crazy, huh?

*As he kneels in front of the box, Selphie smiles brightly, so pleased with her idea. But when he stands back up her smile falters slightly. Maybe he doesn't look quite as excited as she'd hoped*

You're welcome..I just wanted to surprise you. It's getting pretty deep down there..

*She looks down at the troughs she saved and shrugs, shifting her weight from one foot to another*

I picked up some other things, too, if you still wanted to have that picnic?

It's a really nice surprise. I had thought everything was just gone. [Aya smiles more, because flowers had always been a symbol of new life. He gives Selphie's hand a gentle squeeze.] Maybe this is a good sign of things to come.

[Aya looks around to see where she could be hiding those picnic supplies.] Where?

Well, not everything! Nearly, but not quite. *That squeeze of her hand reassures her, and Selphies blushes slightly with a small nod* Maybe it is. *Aya could be so positive when he wanted to be, and that makes her feel so much better*

They're just round here... *She moves off around the chocobos again to a small pile of goods, mostly stuff for the birds, food and things. There's a large picnic hamper there too, and she leans over to hope the lid and steps aside. There's the most delicious looking pastries and cakes, sandwiches and snacks* Stuff from the deli! It's all still good, but I dunno how much longer it'll last.

[It's good that Selphie isn't feeling guilty about rescuing all that. He really isn't surprised she did so, when he thinks on it.]

[Aya follows, and the sight of all that food is pretty impressive. It also makes him realize that he hasn't eaten yet.]

How did you get all this food? And where did you get that basket?

Mm...it was just in one of the cafes, up on a shelf. I took it, and then I used a plastic sledge I had to float it along up here. Same with the flowers too.

*Selphie smiles at Aya and looks down at the basket. Her main concern had been that if she didn't find something for them to eat, then Aya'd forget all about their little date arrangement ~ it might be so long before they'd be back in the bubble*

So...maybe we should eat it sometime soon...

Selphie laughed at the hug, happily squeezing him back, "You think so? I love the beach, and it's kinda fun up here. But I'm worried about all our houses too." Selphie stepped back, though she was still smiling as she looked at her chocobos, glad that she had rescued then. "Ooh, a little cafe, huh? With some cakes, or pastries?"

The birds Selphie'd let Sora look after were happy to be petted, and let out little kewing sounds. "So who told you about them, hmm?" So far as Selphie knew there weren't too many people in Vatheon who knew about them, least not from their home worlds.

She laughed a little and nodded, stroking the beak of one of them, "Yeah. They're just grumpy about all this water, and I don't blame them!"

"Ve, we can rebuild everything," Italy nodded. He'd done it in his own home, building on ancient structures to make more modern ones.

But food is a distracting subject. "Ve, I have pasta and bread and poffins!"
