[Sola isn't stupid. He's naive and gullible, yes, but he isn't plain stupid. Somewhere, deep down, he knows that sitting here in front of the coral and wishing or hoping or even praying won't bring Link back. It hadn't brought Ion back, or any of his other friends who'd been tossed back to their own worlds.

But what if, this time...?

He'd sat with Darkleer for a time before, watching the coral, and not too long after Signless had returned. He'd sat in front of the coral for days after waking up and finding Johnny had died and his matesprit had come back to him. There's just as much of a chance that Link could return.

Right?

He has to hope. Because without hope, what else is there? Maybe he's stubborn, maybe he even knows it's futile, but he has to hope.

So here he is, sitting on the ground in front of the massive edifice of undersea polyps. Waiting. Watching.

Hoping.]

It's a little better, for us anyway.

[He holds Fai a little tighter, not to the point of discomfort, but it's obvious the hug is for both of their benefit, not just Fai's.]

We're still here, and we have family and friends here.

We're the lucky ones.

[He closes his eyes, half in order to keep himself from crying and the other half to force himself to focus on the feeling of just being held. Affection like this is something he could never have back home- another thing that reminds him to be grateful for being in Vatheon.]

Thank you, Sola. You and Johnny and Darkleer are more like family than I ever had before.

[He loosens his grip a little, but remains with his arms around Fai and leaning on him a little. The only family Sola's ever known has been adopted; Signless, Psii, Link, so many more, all here in Vatheon. Not to mention someone who loves him for being himself, regardless of being a replica. Curses notwithstanding, he never wants to leave and he can tell Fai feels the same way.

It may be abrupt, but...]

...Fai, can I call you my brother?

[Okay, that surprised him and he needs a long pause to gather his thoughts. There's a difference between growing to think of the other inhabitants of the house as family and them actually wanting to acknowledge it. He'd been afraid to tell anyone things like that before. Any admittance of happiness had been a bad idea in Valeria because it always got taken away. But this is Vatheon and things are different here. Eventually he nods, a faint smile on his face.]

Yeah... you can do that.

And you can call me your brother too, okay?

[His smile breaks into something more warm and less timid.]

And we'll always be family, I promise. I'll do everything I can to keep us here and together, okay?

[Not that he can do much but it's a nice gesture.]

Okay. [Fai's smile widens a little- Sola's moods can be infectious and the things he's saying really mean a lot to the kid. He's not sure there's really anything else that needs to be said, so the boy will happily sit there.]

[Sola smiles in turn and looks back up at the coral.]

And I'll find a way to bring everyone back, too. Then we can all be together.

[He closes his eyes, sending it as a prayer to the coral, and sitting here with Fai makes it really seem possible.]
