"S- sorry. Orwell doesn't ring a bell. Is he a new writer?" He did sound interested in it, however, as the subject sounded possibly intriguing. On the other hand, it was also something that he could look into later on his own. In the meantime, he was offering him that towel finally. "Right now, I live in Yutopil apartments near Nostalgia Nook. It's quite a nice building, really. We can go there now, if you'd like."
With a friendly enough smile, he waited for a moment or two before starting back in the direction he came from. "The starfish is actually a communcations device around here. It's like a..." There was a slight pause as he looked for the proper word he was trying to find. "Cell phone, I believe. You can talk to people over it like using a regular phone, send them text messages, or even video chat. As a default, however, the thing broadcasts across the network as a whole so everyone can pretty much see whatever it is that you're doing. Of course, you can also hold private conversations over it." He hoped it was a simple enough explanation but sometimes he did have a habit of accidentally making things more complicated than they should be.

"Awesome! Maybe we'll meet some of these other weirdoes here," Gilbert said cheerfully, all but skipping out of the door.

Chuckling softly, he followed him out the door. ...and didn't lock it behind him. Oh well. Apparently he didn't think it was a necessary step to perform. Catching up quickly, he gave him a soft tsk. "They're no more as weird as you are, you know." ...but still somewhat strange, none-the-less. Hell. There were even trolls running around so things were always interesting.

He looked about himself with curious eyes, taking in the rows of houses. "So...are all these houses just for er, people like us, or for the locals as well? Unless the locals are stashed in closets like the creepy zombie people they are..."
no subject
But no. There was no stashing of people away in closets. Okay. There might be, but he didn't know of anyone who slept in a closet so he couldn't say one way or another for sure about that. "There used to be a place that was owned by a local who gave it to a group of us, but they still never lived there at the same time as we did."

...or a cause of curses.

"Hm..." was all Gilbert said though. "So made any friends here?" he asked, switching tracks.
no subject
"A few, actually. Most of them I'd consider good friends." A smile accompanied his words as he spoke. "Plus being here has given me a chance to be friends with Vietnam and Japan." Japan and Canada sometimes do dorky things together like going sightseeing around Vatheon like complete tourists, complete with taking pictures. "There's also a couple from different versions of home. It's basically the same but there's some differences from what we know."
He paused for a moment before smiling widely again. "I'll have to introduce you to them sometime."
no subject
Ahaha, so many 'accidental' bayonet stabbings...
Gilbert hurriedly shook himself from memory lane though. "Different versions of home?"
no subject
"Mhmm. My friend N is from Japan, but a different version. It's not the same as the one we know. These creatures called 'pokemon' roam around, too."

"Huh, I wanna meet him," he said, nodded solemnly. "Anyone who likes animals can't be that bad." Although Gilbert was a complete asshole to humans and nations alike, he was known for being incredibly soft and weak to cute little animal - and not so cute large /dangerous/ animals. There was a humorous story where a drunken Gilbert managed to climb into the lion exhibit in the Berlin Zoo but- ah, it isn't much talked about within the Weillschmidt household.

"I can introduce you to Jack as well. He's a bit on the quiet side, though. From a more victorian era." But Canada still considered him a friend, none-the-less. "If Gracia's still around, I'm sure she'd love to meet you. She tend to enjoy meeting new people and tends to be quite friendly and outgoing." Though from one of Japan's past eras, but sometimes it's hard to tell.
"Anyway, up ahead is where most of the shopping is. The coral is nearby as well as the park." It was pretty much all in the same area, keeping things neat and tidy. And easy to find.
no subject
"Convenient," Gilbert remarked about the close locations of the park, shopping, and the magical coral. "Don't have to travel all over the place then to get the stuff you need, then."
no subject
"It is. Plus the coral is nearby so if you're tired you can touch it and feel better. Plus it's nice to go from store to store and get everything done at once instead of having to run all over from one level to the next in search of various items." It was rather efficient. Plus he could move from the park to a cafe without having to go up or down stairs. "The only real downside is that housing tends to be in the lower district but that's not too bad, really. I sort of like having it that way." ...since it forced someone to actually get out every now and then.
"Plus there's a greater chance of running into people at random and striking up conversation when everyone has to go to one area to do their shopping."

apologies about the late tag. i was occupied with writing a paper;;
"I suppose this mea-" Stopping mid-word, he stumbled slightly before catching his balance and holding up Gilbert. "A little warning next time, eh? I'm sure you wouldn't have appreciated falling face-first onto the ground." So maybe it was a little extreme, but there was also a hint of a laugh since he really wouldn't have moved out of the way or anything. "We'll get the basic necessities and then we can go back."
...why yes. He really was now attempting to drag Gilbert with him as he headed towards the nearest shop.

"Yeah, a quick stop at the sweet store is a must," he said solemnly.

As he spoke, he was opening the door for the shop he had been dragging them towards. It was a quaint little shop, but had the basic necessities that one would probably need at first.
no subject
"Best we shop quick then," Gilbert murmured, wriggling his toes as they stepped into the shop. It was warm, almost humidly so.
no subject
"I think we can do that." Quick enough to get the bare necessities without forgetting something. It helped he knew where everything was, so that made it quicker.

Gilbert slid off of Canada's back when they reached the small shelf full of shoes, and in an effort to use up as little time as possible, reached out and grabbed a pair of trainers that were his size. "Okay, got shoes."
