Taquitos, burritos, nachos, quesadillas, fajitas and more!
Who: All of YOU!
Where: In the Vat equivalant of a Mexican restaurant!
When: January 23rd
Style: Whatever you want it to be, bra.
Status: WIDE OPEN MINGLE POST
[Some time ago, Cielo had mentioned this thing called flautas and how Gale needed to try some. Cielo had also mentioned that he knew a restaurant in Vatheon that sold them. For free, like most other things in the bubble, of course.
Yukari had also given Cielo and Serph a birthday some time ago: January 23rd. And what better excuse did Serph need for a big Embryon outing in the name of flautas and birthdays?
Which brings us to a "Mexican" (whatever that means) restaurant in Vatheon, where there are at least 8 people at a table (Cielo, Gale, Heat, Rinoa, Sera, Serph, Signless/Sufferer, Tiir) with a ridiculous amount of Mexican food. Some of it is mild, harmless to the sensitive palate. But some of dishes... the spices on those are enough to make you feel like you can breathe fire after a single mouthful. The horrendous table manners of about half the people there leaves much to be desired, however...
The locals, excited at having so much business at once, decide that other people need to taste the delightful flavours of their cuisine. If you're passing by, the threat of locals forcibly dragging you into their restaurant with other poor saps is very real.]
[ooc: TL;DR A general mingle post centered around Mexican food that ranges from mild to spicy as Satan's balls. There is a very high chance your character has been forcibly dragged into the restaurant by pushy locals. WHATEVER COULD GO WRONG!?]

Wish you would've told me it was going to be so --

Woah. Hang on a minute. Yukari'd just peeked around to get a better look at his face and. Uh. Are his eyes actually watering? Not that she'd believe he was actually crying, but this is an odd sight to behold, no matter what the reason.
It doesn't help that she's still kind of. Remembering how to socialize after being out of it for three weeks.]
Hey. Uh, you okay?
no subject
Serph shakes his head emphatically. NO HE'S NOT OKAY.]
no subject
Either the food was too spicy -- which wouldn't have been surprising -- or, he ate it while it was too hot.
Or worse: both.
Either way, Yukari sits down next to him, mild concerned expression on her face.]
Jeez. You really oughta read the ingredients before pigging out . . .
[She frowns a bit, continuing to watch his expression; but manages to bite her tongue on any further lecturing or scolding, even in jest.]
Here. Drink.
[She spots his glass of water nearby, and lightly pushes it towards him. It doesn't really occur to her right away that he might've already tried to drink some of it; after all, it didn't look like he'd tried much of anything at all to relieve the burning.]
no subject
It didn't help.
no subject
Really?
[. . . She looks at the glass of water, and then back at him.]
Uh . . . then, maybe something else. Um --
[Crap, she doesn't usually eat spicy food. Do they even have anything for this? She grabs a nearby menu, which luckily hadn't been collected yet, and flips to their drinks section . . .]
no subject
It contains soft drinks, juice, water, milkshakes, smoothies, and copious amounts of alcohol. Is that chilli alcohol on the menu...?]
no subject
Milk. Milk. Okay, that's just going to have to do, because it's way better than the other options she's seeing. (Chili alcohol, what??) A waitress walks by just then too, so Yukari takes the opportunity to order. She considers ordering a vanilla shake for him, but opts to request a glass of plain milk instead.
Obliging, but clearly bewildered by this unusual request, the waitress leaves. Yukari turns back to Serph.]
Can you wait just a bit longer?
[Not that he really has a choice --]
no subject
... that sure is a tear escaping from his eye. Serph doesn't seem to notice. Hot hot hooot!]
no subject
Just. Staring awkwardly at him as he suffers, but occasionally she'll look away, too, in the direction of the kitchen. Where is that damn waitress???
. . .
. . .
Oh! Here she comes --
Nice, cold milk is set in front of Serph, and Yukari looks hopeful.]
no subject
He gives a nod of thanks to the waitress, before his attention goes back to Yukari.]
Thank you.
no subject
He gets a grin as a you're welcome.]
I'm just glad it worked. That's milk, by the way.
no subject
There's something about what Yukari said earlier, though...]
Which ingredients cause mouth burning?
no subject
Right, she did say something about that, didn't she? She thinks about it for a moment. She's never had to explain spicy food before.]
Usually, it's peppers that do it. But there are different kinds, so I'd probably have to look it up to get more specific than that.
[She looks a bit sheepish -- ah, but then she remembers. An easier method, so she adds:]
Just look for the words "hot" or "spicy." They'll usually warn for that on the menu.
no subject
Do you like hot or spicy food?
no subject
[Too much of anything is a bad thing -- or at least that's what they always say. If it's only a little spicy, though, it can really bring out a dish's flavor.
Really, it just depends.]
I think you just got a bit unlucky with the dish you chose.
no subject
He offers Yukari the dish anyway; mayber her tolerance is better than his.]
Thank you for coming.
no subject
[. . . Just. Gonna look at the dish with some suspicion. She definitely doesn't want her mouth burned or anything, so she's not too eager to try it; but she does keep it nearby in case she changes her mind.
Instead of eating, she pulls a small package up onto the table, which had been resting on the seat beside her.]
You'd better take this before I forget to give it to you.

. . . Y'know, for your birthday?
no subject
Would you like me to open it here?
no subject
[She wants to see your reaction, okay.]
no subject
... :|b
Serph nods, and begins to leisurely open it, unsticking the wrapping as best he can instead of tearing it.]

But after a certain point, you will finally find the lovely scarf she buried in there for you. It matches his hair, and his outfit, and . . . well, pretty much everything about him. Grey, with orange fringes hanging from the ends.
It's plain, but . . . she feels like it suits him.]
It's like I told Cielo. It's still cold for a little while longer, so . . .
[She thought it might come in handy, since they enjoy the island so much. The Embryon don't exactly worry about the weather.]
no subject
Serph's gaze goes to Yukari and gives her the smallest of smiles before wrapping it loosely around his neck. Shhh he can totally wear a scarf indoors and while eating, okay.]
Thank you, Yukari. I'll take care of it.
