[GV] - 6 - Festive

Golden Victory isn't about to go two months without a proper change in decor! Their fearless leader hasn't seemed to be in the best of spirits (falling into a coma can do that to a guy), so things aren't quite as extravagant as normal. Instead of playful, things seem a bit more ambient - warm golden lights, rich red tablecloths, holly, garland, maybe even a sprig of mistletoe here and there for the mischievous heart that may wander. And... well, it's a bit of a mystery how they managed to get it through the front door, but there's a well-lit tree taking up one corner of the main floor.

Per usual the rules and employee roster are posted near the door. It seems a bit quieter around here than usual.

The staff are free to their normal wardrobes this month... well, for the most part. Red, white, green and gold seem to be all over the place, encouraging to fit in with the Christmas spirit. There may even be some fur or a little more ~*sparkle*~ than the hosts might be used to. A certain emperor may have taken the liberty of making sure there's at least one spectacular outfit front and center for them to wear.

[ Barry reached forward to take the teacup in hand and sipped it elegantly. ]

Everything. You're meant to entertain me aren't you?

[bufudine]

[Serph sets the teapot down. Haha, well, Barry does have a point, but... Everything is very broad, isn't it!? Serph doesn't even know everything about himself as it is!

He nods, regardless.]

My original world was a land of rain and endless war. We were all humans, killing each other in a world where plants and animals did not exist.

Is that why you were forced to consume flesh?

[ This was potentially fascinating. ]

[bufudine]

[Serph shakes his head.]

We did not need food until we gained our demons.

[He loosely folds his arms on the table.]

All of us were created, not born.

[ So maybe that's why Johnny felt a connection to Serph. ]

I see. Then you and your demon are now the same?

[bufudine]

[Mmm, it's hard to say. There's a certain amount of separation; the compulsion to eat them all certainly is not his, and neither is the desire to tear everyone apart. But, for the most part...

Serph nods.]

Separating us results in loss of autonomy and emotion.

[You could even say...]

Our demons give us life.

[dontsaymyname]

[ Barry leaned back in the chair a bit as if distancing himself, but really he was all the more drawn in. ]

That's interesting, that without your demons you'd almost cease to exist.

[ At least that's how Barry saw it. ]

Humans in my world are all run by their emotions and vices, but many of them remain unpossessed.

[bufudine]

[They would still exist, but not live. That's how Serph sees it. He takes a sip from his teacup before he speaks again.]

They are fortunate.

[He only knows of possession from the time he asked Ky and Zelda to try exorcising Gale's demon.]

I would not wish our state upon anyone.

[dontsaymyname]

Hmm. Then you wish you were different?

[ Barry took a sip of his tea. He didn't understand that mentality at all. ]

[bufudine]

[Serph drops his gaze from Barry, fingers idly tracing the lip of his teacup as he considers Barry's words. While... yes, he does wish he did not need to consume life to live, he cannot deny the usefulness of their circumstances.

He turns his attention back to Barry and gives a slight nod. However...]

I accept my circumstances.

[dontsaymyname]

Hm.

[ Barry smiled lightly. He liked that answer. Liked it a lot. ]

Good. You'd be quite a different person if you didn't accept your position. You'd only cause yourself pain as all humans do who can't accept their fate.

[bufudine]

[Serph mulls over those words, taking another drink of his tea. When he puts down his teacup, it's empty. He reaches for the teapot, and will silently offer to refill Barry's cup with a gesture.]

Is that what you have witnessed?

[ Barry held out his cup and watched as Serph poured. ]

Countless times. Humans who are unsatisfied with their positions push at the boundaries, stretching and straining until something breaks.

[bufudine]

[Serph finishes refilling Barry's teacup and starts on his own.]

Do you believe that is bad?

[dontsaymyname]

[ Barry paused for a moment. He'd been thinking about Johnny when he spoke and he hid the sadness with a perfectly practiced smile. ]

Not always, but when it tears lovers apart it can be.

[bufudine]

[Ah. He doesn't know if that's experience or just observing. But either way, Serph can sympathise. He understands in an oddly detached yet strangely familiar way.

Serph looks away for a brief moment as he sets down the teapot before he returns his attention to Barry.]

If one wants change, there will be pain.

[That's just how it is.]

Yes...unfortunately that seems to be the way of things.

[ He took a long sip of his tea. ]

The decorations in here are quaint.

[ Time to change the subject. ]

[Serph nods.]

They are part of this month's Christmas theme.

[...Serph still doesn't have a terribly good understanding of what Christmas is, though.]

There's a different one each month.

It would make sense that they'd choose Christmas this month. It's celebrated many cultures though I can't say for worlds.

Do they celebrate it in yours, Serph?

[Hmm. Good question.]

I don't know. I didn't have the opportunity to find out.

[He's cone from two worlds, after all. However.]
