FOR SOL BADGUY

Ky hadn't been planning on seeing Sol -- and he usually only sees the man when he's planning to, and then tracks him down and makes sure that Sol doesn't just walk away -- but there the man is anyway. Ky doesn't smile at him -- Sol is hardly a man to evoke smiling, and he wouldn't appreciate politeness even if Ky were capable of mustering it -- but he doesn't immediately launch into requesting things from the man either. Instead he nods, formally, and says, "Sol, if you have a moment..."

Nope.

Sol doesn't even peer down at Ky upon deciding that he doesn't really care to be around the kid at the moment. Especially not when he starts off a conversation with "if you have a moment"--no, that just isn't going to end well and Sol's already acutely aware of the fact. That means a long conversation, and one of those plus Ky is about equivocal to torture. On and on and on...

And so the immediate response is to walk past Ky heading in the direction the boy'd just come from, dismissive hands-in-pockets hunch and mindless shoulder collision and...

...all?

Or not.

Personally, Ky finds conversations quite an effective way to sort out differences between people, and he hasn't remotely said that it has to be a long moment. (It will, but that's Sol's fault, for ignoring Ky so much. If they could talk more often, then Ky wouldn't have so much that he needs to talk to Sol about.)

He's opening his mouth to spit out a complaint, to call after Sol, only to feel himself being tugged, and Sol stopping, just a step past where Ky had been.

"This again." Ky huffs a little, taking care to make sure he was standing solidly on the ground. "Please don't make any sudden movements until this wears off."

Sure. If no one involved is named "Ky Kiske" or "Sol Badguy", conversations are probably all kinds of effective. The problem is when either participant is Ky or Sol, someone's going to ignore something. Ky'll have his fingers in his ears and Sol just doesn't give a shit more often than not. "If they could talk more often" meant dealing more with Ky with his fingers in his ears than Sol considered healthy, on that note.

As for their current predicament, Sol mentally meanders through chemical and biological explanations for it. Then gives up because no matter how many he can come up with to explain the phenomenon (and he can come up with quite a few off the top of his head without putting forth much effort), it's Vatheon and it's probably going to stay like this as long as it damn well pleases.

"Again?" he parrots instead, tone flat. And then Ky confirms the fact that Vatheon is run by a bag of dicks, probably. "Tch."

Ky maintains that communication could be effective between the two of them, if Sol would just agree to participate in the conversation. It isn't as though Ky has a problem with the concept, after all, and just because Sol would nearly always rather grunt than talk doesn't mean that he should always get away with that. Sol's interpretation of Ky having his fingers in his ears is clearly false, given that Sol mostly seems to speak to antagonize Ky, as much as anything else. Certainly, he doesn't try to actually explain things.

"Yes, again. This appears to be what's happening this week." Ky swallows the rest of the explanation that he so badly wants to give, the detailed summary of who Ky was stuck to, the circumstances, and how long it took to become unstuck.

"It seems like it will wear off, sometime between two and six hours, from personal experience so far. It's activated by touching, any sort of contact, and the particular time that it wears off doesn't seem to be connected to anything. It's not like it's always midnight or something." Oh, wait, that's not a very good job of swallowing his explanation. Whoops.

That reliance ain't gonna work. Sol's never been all that inclined to participate in conversation to any great extent. Definitely not the extent the kid'd prefer. And that impression is still pretty accurate, since it's kind of a thing that people who do that whole "fingers in ears" thing always miss the logical parts but never the antagonizing. And Sol shouldn't have to explain anything; Ky's got a brain so he can use it. Pretty sure it's still in one general piece, right?

Yeah, the explanation really isn't needed, but thanks anyway. Sarcasm. Sol cocks his head towards the shoulder farther from Ky, same hand on his hip.

"'Course it ain't." A little too fairytale there with that sort of estimation, princess. So now the goal is how to make this as painless as possible.

Ky miffs, uses his hands to straighten the uniform a little. It's just a way to do something, to exercise the fact that he still has control of his hands and doesn't need to get Sol's permission for that much, at least.

Ky's brain might be in one piece -- certainly is, even as war-influenced as his circumstances have been -- but that doesn't mean that he is exempt from needing other input in order to come to other conclusions than the ones that he has come to before. If he always knows what he's always known... The point is that Sol could clear things up, could with not very much effort make a rather big difference to how Ky thinks about things, so if he's doing them wrong Sol should let him know. That's just common sense.

"Curses often last until midnight, even for ones that don't last the whole day." It's not fairytale if it's what actually happens, and there's no reason for Sol not to acknowledge that Ky has greater experience with this, and tends to pay a lot more attention to what's going on over the network.

Sure. Ky can do that much and Sol can continue to want to ignore the entire situation to the best of his abilities. Kinda hard to do when you're shoulder's connected to someone else's, and this is a load of shit, but nothin' for it.

Sure, Sol could clear things up. Or Sol could dodge him and Ky could get it through his head that Sol wasn't going to hand-hold him through the complicated shit in life. He'd done all the guarding and guiding he was gonna do back during the war, when he'd actually needed to. Like he's gonna do it now that he doesn't. Ky's got enough brains to figure out when he's doing something wrong, he's just too much of an idiot to think he might be without external input.

"Hnn." ...Aaaand Ky misses the sarcasm train again. Sol's sure Ky pays more attention, considering the boy shoves his nose into everyone's business enough as-is (and he acknowledges that works for how Ky does things, even if it's an irritating way to go about it and Sol wants no part in it ever).

Dodging someone isn't a way to revolve issues, and Sol with his own experience should certainly be able to know that much. It's obvious that Ky isn't going to figure out everything that he needs to know on his own, which was why he went to Sol, why he still thinks it's worth it to try to get answers from the man. It isn't about being stupid or unwilling to do the necessary work to try on his own, it's about Sol having access to things that Ky himself does not and can not. It's about Sol being an ass who doesn't understand what the word cooperation means, and how that could very easily benefit them both, especially while they're both in Vatheon.

"I was planning on going on patrol. You should join me." That seems efficient to Ky, since he can do his job and Sol can be exposed to the patrol work as well. (Perhaps not Sol's definition of efficiency, but does that matter?)
