The Cakes are not a lie!

Who: Sophie, Mithos, Cheria Barnes, anyone else in the family (i.e. Asbel, Malik, Hubert, Pascal) who'd be at the house.
Where: Tales House of Graces!
When: Uh... a couple of days ago!
Style: Either
Status: Semi Open

So shortly after inviting Mithos over to get his wedding cake, Sophie had trotted out to get some aprons since she promised both Tifa and Pascal one. She would give Tifa hers later, of course. Having tasks Malik to guard the cake in case Mithos arrived first, Sophie was lucky enough to get back home quickly enough that Mithos had yet to arrive.

Tiger Festival, however, had found the cakes and was currently intently staring at the counter, gauging if it was safe to jump up onto. The wedding cake is in danger!

"O-Of course I'm not!" he protested again, taking a few steps backwards into the kitchen, still blushing furiously, and occasionally glancing at Sophie. "I'm not engaged. I don't even have anyone I'd want to marry!" That sounded less like him defending his case and more like denial. Because he's Mithos! He doesn't need anyone except his sister! Right? He's not lonely or anything.

Sophie's offer to let him sleep in her bed had barely registered in his mind until after the initial awkwardness of being accused of having a fiance. He abruptly turned around, hunched his shoulders, and crossed his arms, not looking at either of them. "I'm an angel, I don't need sleep." He's already said that once before, but it was still true. "Sleep is something humans need."

And with that, he stomped off, looking over the cakes. Well... they appeared to be competent bakers. He'd give them that, at least.

"What ..?" She asked Sophie, as she brought that up. Wait, what? If Cheria had been confused before, she was definitely confused now. She starts off trying to follow Sophie, but stops as she makes it out the door.

"Sophie ...?"

This whole thing was just weird. She looked to Mithos, then back at the door where Sophie had left. She sighed, shifting her weight to one side and putting a hand to her forehead.

"I am so confused."

... what. Mithos stared blankly in the direction of the door as Sophie spontaneously darted out. "... I wasn't mad at her..." Mithos stammered, still dumbfounded as to what just happened, every bit as much as the human was.

Actually, how he was really feeling... well, Cheria kind of hit the nail on the head, there. As much as Mithos will NEVER EVER ADMIT IT FOR AS LONG AS HE LIVES THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Mithos continues staring at the door, and then at Cheria. He wants to ask why she ran, but... he doesn't. Instead, he considers leaving himself.

And this was just another thing piling on to the list of things she had to teach Sophie about. It was a nice gesture, though, and Sophie clearly thought it would work, so she would watch and see how it played out before interjecting.

Besides, that situation and this one? Not quite as dissimilar as she originally thought. The unsuspecting one giving someone they thought they hurt a flower because of one reason, and not really knowing what it would really mean to the other.

Cheria sighed, leaning against the doorframe and just watching until Sophie came over to her. She smiled down at the (physically) younger girl and lifted a hand to gently pet her hair.

"That depends on Mithos, I think. But it's a very thoughtful gesture." She pushed herself away from the doorframe after that.

"Let me go find something to plant it in, okay Sophie? Go see what Mithos thinks. Remember to wash your hands after we get that planted, though, since we've still got to bake cakes."

... Meanwhile, Mithos was in the kitchen, looking over the materials they were going to use to bake cakes, and the few already in the oven. The oven wasn't huge, so they had to wait for these to finish first.

Sophie was really confusing him on a personal level. He could hear their voices near the front door, but he was staring at the cakes, trying not to focus on it. He felt so awkward, so weird. He had never felt like this before. It was... strange. Even a bit scary. Nobody, not even Martel, had this effect on him.

After he felt like he had a grip on himself, he turned back towards the living room, seeing Cheria in the doorway. He remained silent, even if he had heard his name. He knows Cheria knows about how much he hates humans and that he has massacred millions of them, so maybe she's telling Sophie to steer clear?

... she better not be.

... Well. This was unexpected. When Sophie comes skipping up to her, and offers her very much the same flower she gave him before, his chest suddenly felt funny. He felt his blush returning in force, as he looked down at the flower she was holding up. Gingerly, the half-elf reached out for it, and accepted the very sweet gift.

"I wasn't mad, Sophie," he answered quietly, just barely whispering. And in a tone very much unlike the usual jaded, almost angry tone he's spoken in since arriving here. "... Thank you. I do."

... And then, he smiles. While blushing. Cheria, your suspicions have just been confirmed.

And she happened to come across this adorable little scene after getting a small pot to plant the flower in for Mithos. Cheria couldn't help but smile, despite her concerns for someone she cared about so much. But ... if Mithos really did care about Sophie, she knew he wouldn't try to hurt her. Not if he could help it.

Pushing her worries aside for the time being, she made her way over to the two.

"Sophie, Mithos, I found something to plant that in. Mithos, would you like to do the honors? Sophie, please go wash your hands."

She held out the pot to Mithos, so that he could put his gift in a safe place.

"Oh, uh, sure." He watches Sophie leave - staring at her maybe just a little too long as she runs along to their bathroom - and then turns to Cheria. He has a feeling this is just an attempt to get him alone to talk to him, which is why he approaches slowly. He still looks mostly cordial (Sophie just gave him a ~♥~flower~♥~ after all), but... he has a feeling he knows where this is going regardless.

By the time he reaches her, he looks down at his present from her, and blushes again. But he doesn't put the flower in. "I want her to be here when I do it," he says quietly... almost shyly.

Cheria couldn't help the smile on her face. Mithos was right, though. Partly. It was true that Sophie needed to go wash her hands, because they really didn't need any soil in the cake ... but she did want to talk to Mithos.

"That's fine. I'm sure Sophie will be happy to see you plant your gift."

Her expression turned serious, though, as she went into her next topic.

"I can see how much you like her. I'm not going to get in the way of that despite knowing what you've done in your world, because Sophie really seems to be fond of you, too."

It was really easy to get on Sophie's good side. But that wasn't the point here.

"I just want your word that you'll be good to her. Sophie is very important to a lot of people, me included, and none of us want to see her hurt. If I find out that she's been hurt in any way ..."

It was a warning. It was a warning she'd probably give to anyone who had the same feelings Mithos had for Sophie.

"... Well. You won't, right?"

Have you ever seen a mother bear protecting her young, Mithos? That's what she's warning about.

l-late sob

"Yeah. Me too." He was beaming, and still blushing a bit... up until she accused him of liking her. His blush intensified further, but before he could object or get defensive, she was already going into full mama-bear mode.

She... she liked him, too? What was going to be a counter-threat (seriously, very few humans ever threatened him and lived to tell the tale), quickly turned into more blushing and flusteredness. Sophie... liked him too? This wasn't just how she normally is? (Don't correct him, please.)

"No... no, I won't." He sheepishly looks down at the floor, at that.

Hey, she only said Sophie seemed fond of him, not that she had those same sorts of feelings for him. If Mithos takes that and runs with it, that's his own fault for interpreting things the wrong way. She looks back toward Mithos as Sophie enters, giving him a look that clearly stated 'we'll talk more later.'

Cheria smiles at Sophie, then, gesturing for her to come closer.

"Mithos wanted you to be here when he planted his flower. Though I'll have to ask him to wash his hands as well, when he gets it planted. Especially if he wants to help us make cakes."

Cheria will have to do that as well, not to worry. She's not that much of a hypocrite.

"He really seems to like your gift, Sophie."
martelapproves: (Mithos: Huh?)

"N-No, I didn't forget I--" Thanks, Cheria. He may be misinterpreting what Cheria says, but he has a really bad habit of doing just that when it comes to people he has feelings for. Remember what happened the last time he did that? People died. A lot of people died.

"Well... she's here now, so..." He takes one last look at his flower, and gently places it in the vase, parting some of the dirt with his free hand. He looked over at Sophie for a moment, misty-eyed and still blushing a bit, and stepped back as the flower was planet.

"... thank you." It was just barely above a whisper.
