Who: Relius Clover

Relius has arrived on the island in the early morning for some preliminary tests. He moved Ignis through her basic paces that he could preform on his own. Her movement seemed unimpaired due to their transportation. It was all within parameters. This was a good sign. The rest of her functions would have to wait until his test subjects arrived. Only then could he see if she was still fully functional for battle. He did wonder if everything would work as it was supposed to.

Thanks to Rita Mordio, he was sure she could operate without the necessary seither to trigger her Ars. Though it would be his subjects' responsibility to see about that. He would also need to be sure his own abilities remained intact. Hazama might say he was showing his hand too early but he was also forcing others to do the same. Besides, hands could always be shifted and molded, should the occasion call for it. He would try to pull his punches to make sure none could gauge his true abilities. He was fairly sure none of them were as strong as Hazama. Should that be the case, he should be victorious in every bout.

Though there was one last goal to all this. He wished to see the volunteer's souls. He was sure he could catch glimpses of all their souls in this fight. He told them to not hold back and in such situations the way to their true forms was often exposed. He looked forward to all of the data he would be collecting.

Ignis and Relius both floated into the air. The man grunted with each hit the beam delivered and his doll seemed to shake. When she spell was done, they fell back to the ground. Relius landed on his feet in a crouching position while Ignis stopped just before touching the ground.

The blond man stood with a smirk and adjusted his mask. "A spell that cancels out gravity yet does damage. Truly an impressive sight. Now it is my turn." Relius wasted no time in moving. He seemed to lift off the ground and flew towards Shirley with Ignis behind him. He motioned with his hand and his doll moved in front of him and bent down. From the large metal pieces of her hat, two purple energy blades extended from the tip and tried to stab their opponent.

Right after she finished casting, Shirley leaned closer to Relius. She wanted to ask if he was okay since it wouldn't be rude if she didn't. Besides, it was out of habit. However, before she could, both Relius and Ignis went straight for her. So, he was an offensive fighter huh? Shirley quickly knew she was going to be at a disadvantage.

However, she was going to find a way out of it. The moment Ignis tried to stab her, she moved out of the way before trying to cast some quick fire balls. It didn't do much damage compared to her previous spell but at least it did something.

Relius moved his hand and Ignis crossed her arms in front of her. She took the fireballs and seemed to withstand them fine. She sliced out at Shirley this time with one of her claws.

At this rate, it seemed like Shirley had no choice but to depend on her two quick spells. She simply doesn't have enough time for cast her other spells without getting injured in some way. As she tried to run away once again, one of her claws managed to hit one of her arms.

It didn't hurt that much but she casted an Ice Wall to put some distance between them.

"Dance Ignis!" Relius called out when the Ice Wall appeared. The doll began to unleash a volley of claw swipes followed by two uppercuts and one that seems powered by something. The wall shattered but their assault ended there, for now.

As Ignis destroyed the ice wall, Shirley began moving further away from them to cast another spell. This time, she thought of casting Shooting Stars. She just hoped that it would be enough time for her to unleash it.

In the meantime, she couldn't help but look at her arm and noticed that the cut from her arm was bleeding just a bit.

Once again Relius waited to see what this spell would do. He looked to the sky as the streaking stars seemed to come down on both him and Ignis. He readied his barrier for himself while he motioned with his other arm. Ignis moved to his back and held both arms up to block the second star. They are both struck. The barrier falls after the strike and the metal on Ignis's arms seems to have been dented done.

Shirley wasn't expecting him to let her finish her casting. Suddenly, this wasn't as difficult as she thought it was. With that, she quickly casted Cure on herself before continuing another spell.

This time, she was going to cast one of her most powerful spells, Tidal Wave. Just like with her previous spell, this took a lot time to cast but she did keep an eye on the both of them if they were planning an attack...

After that last attack, Relius was not too keen on feeling the sting of another. He levitated off the ground and flew towards Shirley again. He stopped several feet from her and motioned with his hand towards her.

"Vol Tedo!" Ignis moved her arms around in a circle and in one claw an energy orb appeared. She thrust the orb towards Shirley suddenly. If she was hit, the org would expand around her. It would gather energy into the orb and explode, launching Shirley away from the duo.

Shirley was expecting an attack but she wasn't expecting that big of one. She was prepared to make a run for it the moment, he screamed out his attack.

As the orb moved closer to her, she wondered if an ice wall would be able to prevent the attack. Probably not, she thought, as she tried to run faster. However, she was hit and ,as a result, the explosion launched her away from him.

The distance wasn't much but Shirley thought it might be enough for a Tidal Wave. She was struggling to get up but once she did, she began her spell.

Relius stood as she was launched away and took in her distance and smiled. It seemed the attack was fully functional. Good. As she began to cast again he flew towards her again. He attempted an uppercut with one of his green arms in hopes to stop her from casting.

Eventually, she does manage to cast her spell but it wasn't to the full extent that she wanted it. Around Relius, there will be a giant swirl of water surrounding him.

"Tidal Wave!" She shouted as the waves around him are starting to become more powerful with each hit.

The blond grunted and moved with each hit from the water. He was mumbling something ever few hits; possibly the word stimuli. He started to pant as the attack drew to its close. It was one powerful spell.

Meanwhile, Shirley was starting to wonder if she did hurt him that badly. This was a duel but she was just testing out his doll, she didn't want to hurt him.

"Um, Relius? Are you okay?" However, she didn't want to move closer. If he still wanted to fight, she wasn't going risk getting hurt herself.

"Quite." Relius said with a simple adjustment of his mask. He could take more damage than this, though her show of concern was telling. Compassionate to a fault, perhaps?

"That spell you used. It was quite interesting. You must be powerful to know such magicks."

Relius is right, Shirley is too nice for her own good. However, she knows this but continues to see it as a strength.

"Yes, back home, I am a crystal eren user so I had to use a lot of spells to protect others." And there is the fact she is the Merines but she's not going to say that just yet.

"I see. Well, I believe from this little bout I have enough data for my experiment. Would you be interested in staying and talking for a time? My next volunteer won't be here for some time." Perhaps she was hiding things, but he wanted to learn as much as he could. Magic and magic users willing to walk were so rare in his world. He wasn't about to let these opportunities to slip through his fingers.

"Sure, I don't mind." She smiled at him before sitting down on the ground. As she dusted off the dirt from her legs and looking around if there were any injures on the both of him, she continued to talk. "By the way, where did you get your um...battle doll?"

Relius remained standing for now and brushed off his own clothes. He was quiet for a moment after Shirley asked her question but an answer came.

"She is my creation. I made her."

She stared at both him and the the battle doll. It seemed like it must have taken him ages to built such a thing. She let out a smile, reminding of herself how long it took her to learn her artes and drawing out her Teriques.

"How long did it take you to build her? It seems like it was really difficult to make her."

Relius smirked and gave a shrug. "It took some time. A few years though the majority of it was done in simply a few months. It was the power source that took the longest time for me to perfect."

"Power source?" She pondered for a bit. "Tell me, what kind of power does your world have? For mine, our power comes from eres."

With that, she shows off her fingernails to him. "Back home, our power is something you're born with. So I'm a crystal eren and that means I cast spells ranging from different elements."

"Eres. Very interesting." He took in the look of her fingernails. It seemed her power came from her own body. He would need to examine more of her at some point. If she was willing it would make tests much easier to accomplish. As for Ignis's power source.

"A soul, simply put. She has her own soul."

Shirley stared at Relius for a couple of seconds. Her eyes widen before looking back at Ignus.

"A...soul...." She wasn't sure should she be freaked or be amazed. "Does that mean she...." Does that technically mean that she was a living corpse or...

Relius nodded and looked to Ignis with Shirley. His own face held nothing but a smile. He was proud of his creation, proud that he had created something so perfect. He turned back to her with a raised eyebrow.

"Does it mean she what? Is alive? She has no real consciousness of her own if that is what you're asking. She simply follows commands given to her."

I'm good too. ^^ I'll ask if anything gets confusing.
