Who: Relius Clover

When: September 5th, Afternoon to the evening

Status: Closed to those who volunteered in the thread.

Relius has arrived on the island in the early morning for some preliminary tests. He moved Ignis through her basic paces that he could preform on his own. Her movement seemed unimpaired due to their transportation. It was all within parameters. This was a good sign. The rest of her functions would have to wait until his test subjects arrived. Only then could he see if she was still fully functional for battle. He did wonder if everything would work as it was supposed to.

Thanks to Rita Mordio, he was sure she could operate without the necessary seither to trigger her Ars. Though it would be his subjects' responsibility to see about that. He would also need to be sure his own abilities remained intact. Hazama might say he was showing his hand too early but he was also forcing others to do the same. Besides, hands could always be shifted and molded, should the occasion call for it. He would try to pull his punches to make sure none could gauge his true abilities. He was fairly sure none of them were as strong as Hazama. Should that be the case, he should be victorious in every bout.

Though there was one last goal to all this. He wished to see the volunteer's souls. He was sure he could catch glimpses of all their souls in this fight. He told them to not hold back and in such situations the way to their true forms was often exposed. He looked forward to all of the data he would be collecting.

"All right," Rita responded, accepting this for now.

She'd have to adjust her tactics some... But not as much as it seemed at first, now that she looked.

Then, one hand forward, she looked at Relius.

"Let me show you what research brings, where I'm from, then."

Relius smiled and pulled one of his arms inside his cape and let the other touch his chin. This should be very educational.

"Yes, do show me what fruit your research has bore."

A few fingers twitched, and then...

"Stone blast!"

The ground under Relius erupted, stones flying into the air at both him and Ignis.

Relius was hit with some of the stones before he buckled down low. He moved one of his arms up and suddenly a large green arm seemed to appear from inside of his cape and blocked the rest of the rocks from hitting him.

The arm drew Rita's attention for a second... Before she turned towards Ignis.

"Fireball!", she shouted, launching a number of, well, just that in the doll's direction.

Relius stood once the attack ended and smirked. He waved his arm towards Rita and called out an attack.

"Val Lyra!" Before the fireballs could hit Ignis she vanished and reappeared behind Rita. Her claws had morphed into two large scythe blades and she swung both at the spell caster's back.

The blades struck Rita easily, but not deeply - as they struck, she rolled to the side, her sash striking at Ignis with surprising force.

Ignis was hit and moved back with the force of the strike. There was the crack of another snap and Ignis vanished in a flash of blue and purple. Relius himself remained still and waited to see what Rita would do next.

"Either Teleporation or iinvisibility. Interesting," Rita observed...

Before raising one hand. "Come forth, O avaricious netherworld, and crush the evil before me! Negative Gate!"

And then, a sphere of dark energy appeared in front of Relius - pulling him directly towards it with surprising force.

Now that was very interesting. Some sort of spacial distortion controlled by her magic and it was pulling him in! He raised his green shielding arm in defense and activated his defensive barrier ars to try and protect himself as he was pulled into the orb of darkness.

As he was drawn closer, he could tell that the orb was simply a force to draw him closer, with pain from the force only. Touching it would probably hurt, but not much more than he was already experiencing from the draw.

No, for the real damage, Rita would resort to a simpler spell. "FIREBALL!"

The fireballs met wit his barrier and it fell after the third one. Relius had to get on the offensive and get closer. He flew towards her again and aimed a punch with one of his blue arms for right between Rita's eyes.

This forced Rita to stop casting and take a quick step backwards. Relius had his opportunity now.

He wasn't about to not take it either. 'Val Tus!" Ignis reappeared in front of the puppeteer and flew towards Rita. Her claws once again were scythe blades, though shorter this time. She swung the first at the spellcaster, then the second, and ended with a spinning dance with both blades.

The strikes easily hit clean, cutting into Rita a fair bit; suddenly, she lept back a fair distance, raising her hands.

"AQUA LASER!"

And... Pretty much a beam of tightly concentrated water launched directly at Relius. It was obvious that Ignis was the tool, and he the target, at this point.

Relius raised his shield arm to block the aqua laser and was forced back some. Ignis seemed to vanish once he was hit though. He waited for the laser to vanish and ordered another command.

"Val Lyra!" Again, Ignis appeared behind Rita and tried to slice her with her scythe arms.

This time, Rita had caught on enough to catch Relius' command as he spoke it, dashing forward and striking at him directly with her sash.

Relius wasn't unprepared for such a strike. He waited for Rita to try and attack him before unleashing his own assault. First though, he had to avoid her attack. He spun around in a circle suddenly as a magical circle appeared around him. As he turned, mirror images of himself spun with him. The sash seemed to pass right through him. As she drew it back was when the attack came.

"Id Lauger!" A glyph suddenly appeared around him along with gears and a lever behind him. He pulled the lever and unleashed the massive fist that shot from the glyph and headed right for Rita.

This attack struck Rita easily and perfectly, sending her tumbling several feet away from Relius and stunning her for a few seconds.

Relius walked toward Rita and snapped his fingers with another command.

"Bel Lafino!" Ignis appeared in the air over Rita, her feet now morphed into drills. She came down hard toward the spellcaster. The puppeteer had to wonder if she could avoid the strike in time.

What Relius saw next would probably be rather surprising. A sudden burst of energy from Rita, enough to knock Ignis away, formed seemingly out of nowhere, as she stood up.

"Now you're asking for it! TIDAL WAVE!"

One of Rita's biggest spells suddenly washed over the entire area. Relius could probably jump it, but going into the air could create openings, and he could tell that there was quite a bit more where that came from.

Relius launched himself up and over the raging water. He had been hit with that spell before today and was not about to make a habit of it. Ignis vanished when the burst of energy hit her away from Rita. He knew in the air he was vulnerable but he had a plan. He just needed to make it to the ground again.

Rita, on the other hand, seemed to be particularly heated, suddenly launching a chain of fireballs at and around Relius' location even as the wave dried up.

The amount of power she was channeling right now couldn't last more than a few more seconds, though - that much was clear. Then, Relius would have his chance.

Relius let gravity pull him down while he raised his green arms in front of him as a shield. The fireballs crashed into them and scorched the metal but it left him relatively untouched. Once the power faced and he hit the ground he ordered his command.

"Dance Ignis!" Ignis reappeared and launched into her volley of claw attacks at Rita.

The first couple of strikes seemed to be ignored, as Rita turned towards Ignis...

... Only for the next several to hit cleanly, the last knocking her back and to the ground, a scream of pain coming from her.
