Why do you build me up?

Who: a prequel with Summoner; Equius, Tavros, and Nepeta; completing the trilogy with Darkleer

Equius hums quietly to himself as he strips the gloves off his hands. The procedure was a success, and Tavros' new legs are successfully attached. He's quite pleased with the new design: they're longer, to account for how Tavros has grown since being in Vatheon, and lighter than his previous pair. They also have nerve ending receptors in them, so Tavros can feel the ground under him, as well as when people touch them. Finally, there are tiny wings, shaped and modeled on Lysunder's, attached to the ankles. With some experimentation, he should be able to figure out how to make them flutter, although they're nowhere near large enough to support his weight.

He puts his tools away and adjusts the aenesthetic, lowering the dosage and setting it to gradually cut off entirely. Then he nudges one of Tavros' new knees with the back of his hand.

"Nitram. Wake up."

Tavros groans softly as the effect of the drugs wear off and he starts to wake up again. He hadn't actually expected drugs to be involved, considering how things were done last time, but he appreciated not having to be a wake while he was taken apart again.

Trolls bounce pack pretty quick, but the knock to his leg had him bolting upright and wide-eyed, but unfortunately not all that clearheaded. "Huh! What?"

Well, next time Equius will just get Kanaya to help him!

... okay, no. No, he won't.

"Your legs are done." Equius turns around to keep cleaning up. "You have feeling in them now, as we discussed."

Nepeta's been by his side the whole time, holding his hand even while he was asleep - with Equius occasionally shooing her out of the way of course. As soon as he sits upright she flings her arms around him, burying her face against his shoulder for a minute.

"It's all done! Your new legs are pawesome, look!" ...it would be easier for him to see if Nepeta wasn't blocking his view, though.

Tavros wound a weary arm around his mateprit and rubbed at his eyes with the other, blinking a few times to get used to the light and clear his head. "A-Already?"

He rested his chin on top of her head and peered down at his legs, expecting the same sort of thing he had last time but was completely blown away by the detail that went into these. So completely he couldn't figure out what to say.

[Since he knows how it is to have to get used to robotic replacements- even just replacements for old ones- Darkleer waits a bit before he attempts to contact Tavros. Besides, sometimes it's best to not rush surgeries one after the other.]

Tavros? Are you ready now?

Yeah, okay!

-=he was a bit awkward on the legs at first, but he's adjusting okay. They feel very different, especially because they can feel=-

Am I going to sleep again?

It would certainly make things easier, unless you have some objection...?

[He is certain he could get around it, really, but he wouldn't lie that an unconscious troll is usually a much easier troll to deal with.]

[...That applied to most things in life, when he thought about it.]

It makes me feel funny with the waking up, but not really?

-=he just keeps telling himself that anything is better than chainsaws=-

But what ever you think, would be the best way to do things. I will be okay with that.

It won't take very long. I am rather skilled at doing quick surgeries.

If you could remove your shirt, please? And lay down on your stomach.

-=he nods and shrugs off his outer shirt and unhooks the clasps that holds the other one on so it falls away. he has large scars on his chest and back where he'd been run through with his own lance. it makes him feel weird when other people see and it makes him seem a bit ~~more~~ awkward as he makes his way over the to table and climbs on=-

[Darkleer hardly pays any mind to the scarring. He's seen far worse, and it is no business of his at any rate. Once Tavros is situated, he removes the necessary machinery from his sylladex. There won't be anything amateurish about this.]

[Putting the gas mask over Tavros' face, he starts the intake.]

Breathe deep, please.

Equius turns away to finish cleaning up and putting his tools away. He figures Tavros will need some time to get used to his new legs.

-=he's just going to complete ignore what Darkleer is pulling out of his sylladex. which is all well and good because even when he tries to turn his head his horn catches him before he could see much. it doesn't keep him from worrying though, because it's his spine and he can't help but be a bit touchy about it.

he looks up at darkleer with big round eyes and breathes in like he's supposed to, fidgeting until the drugs start working=-

[Please stop using those big round eyes on him, Tavros. He is dating your ancestor/big brother figure/genetic clone, it makes this a lot more awkward than it needs to be.]

[Darkleer makes sure that Tavros really is unconscious before he puts away the gas and such. Then it's on with the gloves, out with the scalpel- one he made sure to sharpen before Tavros came over. He doesn't want anything to go wrong, after all. Biotechnology can be tricky, even with how much he's had to deal with making robotic replacement limbs for others and all he's learned over the sweeps.]

[Splitting open his back is easy. Placing the connection points is a bit difficult if only because he doesn't want to disrupt where he believes any future wings will grow or get in the way of his muscles. It needs to be uncomfortable only in its newness. If it is uncomfortable in any other way, then he'll have failed.]

[When all is said and done, he can't truly be sure how it will feel until Tavros is awake. So when he has done his best, he goes to close any open wounds... And tries something a bit different than just stitching it up. He's modified the device on his arm- the one he built based on the omnitool Summoner had during one of the curses, and he passes it over where he'd opened Tavros' skin. The accelerated healing might make Tavros a bit tired when he wakes up, but other than that... no side effects. Darkleer is rather pleased with it, honestly.]

[After a good two hours or so's worth of work, he's done and carefully peeling off his latex gloves. Now to wait for Tavros to wake up...]

"Yes, already! Though you were asleep for a while...but Equius was really quick at it! What do you think, what do you think, do you see them?? They're wonderful, aren't they?"

She squeezes him in an enormous hug, nearly bouncing in her excitement.

-=at least his eyes aren't bronze yet?=-

-=it takes a bit for him to start coming out of it, whimpering softly when he tries to lift his head and his horns feel a good five times heavier than they should. it feels even worse the second time around for some reason, and the still new sensations coming from his legs are throwing him off even more=-

"Woaaaah...."

He rubs blearily at his eyes, trying to force more coherency back into his head as he tries to take it all in. They're so shiny! And oh gosh toes! And...

"Are, uh... those wings?"

They look like Summoner's wings. He almost looks like he's going to cry.

"They are! Can you feel yet, Tavros? Equius said you should be able to feel this time!"

She kisses his cheek for him and pat his back, trying to soothe those tears away even if she's pretty sure they're only happy tears. She wants to see him smiling!

[Oh small blessings.]

[As he hears Tavros awaken, he shifts closer and gently takes him by the shoulders, helping lift him up.]

How do you feel?

He is smiling! He's smiling like a big gigantic dork with toes that can wiggle and little wings on his ankles. Tavros rests his hand on one of his legs, then pulls it away quickly with a little gap.

Looking back and forth between Nepeta and Equius, he rests his hand back down again with a look of pure amazement on his face. "Y-yeah. Yeah I can."

-=he ends up leaning heavily against the large troll, weakly trying to force his legs around so he could at least sort of sit up=-

Feel.... m-melty...

[Melty? Darkleer does his best to help him straighten up.]

Do you mean... tired, or numb?
