[It was weird to stare up and realize that wasn't sky above everyone that lived in the city. It was water, held back by... whatever force kept them from getting crushed. Rin didn't fully understand it and he really didn't try to. He just found himself staring at it often, especially during the times when he had nothing better to do.

With Zelda in a coma, his training was on hold. And he had no plans to cook with Italy for the day. So he was left to his own devices again. Thankfully this didn't usually spell trouble for him in Vatheon - unlike back home, before he got in to True Cross and began his exorcist training, where an idle day often ended in a fight for him.

Hell, even when he was actually working he usually found some way to get in to trouble.

But things were different in that city under the sea, and while Rin wouldn't complain about the lack of people who wanted to deck him in the face so much as look at him, he still wasn't entirely sure what to do with himself. Cooking and training were fine, when the people that helped with that were around to actually do it, but curses and random comas kept it from being consistent.

He wondered what Yukio would have been up to there, if he would have an easier time adjusting to Vatheon, or if it would be just as disconcerting and difficult for him. Of course he had no way of knowing the answers to those things, and the coral didn't seem to want to give Rin anyone he knew from his world save for Shura for the short time she had been there.]

Tch. Damn coral...

[A lazy but frustrated sigh escaped the half demon, and he let his eyes close, tail draping lazily across his stomach and arms behind his head. He didn't mean to fall asleep, but soon enough he was snoozing away and snoring quietly.]

Seriously, it's taking him forever to still get used to all the little things, like people actually wanting to spend time with him when he isn't in class on on a mission with them.

BUT HE'S GETTING BETTER AT IT, HE PROMISES. He was even going to take Sheimi to an amusement park.

[well, we're going tp let Rin's stomach answer this one. With a very loud growl. He groans and puts his hands there, slumping over a little.]

There's this cafe I go to a lot, it has great burgers and pies. [That said, she finally releases his arm and points ahead of her to indicate how far off said place is.

Only to immediately tug on his hand to get him moving.]

[He was ready to just start walking on his own, but the next thing Rin knows, Maka has his hand and is pulling him along.

He's just... going turn a bit red here, and follow.]

[To the shock of absolutely no one, Maka's oblivious to this and just keeps going, chattering away incessantly.]

So what's that red thing you have? Is it a weapon? How has Zelda been training you?

[Rin is... a little more flustered than he usually gets, but her questions at least drag him out of his 'lolwhat' stupor about having his hand held long enough to answer.]

Oh, it's a sword. It was my Dad's sword, actually... -- not... Satan. Father Fujimoto.

[He keeps forgetting he actually told Maka way back when he was first there that he's the son of Satan.]

Uh. Concentration training, mostly.

[She nods absently, recalling that he did mention the little bitty minor thing of being the son of Satan and all. Not that the name means much to her.

Not that she has very good feelings associated with priests either, but that's neither here nor there.]

I use a scythe myself...but it'd be cool to see you using your sword some time! What's the concentration training for?

[Father Fujimoto was a... very different priest. But he can't really prove that since the man sort of died.

And geez Maka all the probing... at least it's not alien probing]

Controlling my flames. I got pretty good at it back home but I still have problems with it sometimes.

[Then again she's just easily impressed.]

Hmm? Of course! I don't see why I shouldn't. I mean...I can see souls, but people here only get freaked out if they hear about it.

[Or think she's looking at their souls right at that second, or think it means she can read their minds, or...other stuff. It gets tiring, okay?]

I'm... just used to most people bein' afraid of me... blue flames are the mark of Satan's blood.

[he glances away, making a face that's somewhere between hurt and irritated. He had to win back the trust of his friends after they found out, and it's one of the reasons he doesn't try as hard to hide it now.]

They aren't his flames, though. They're mine. And it pisses me off when others don't trust me just 'cause of that.

...[All right, hand-holding time is over now. Now Maka's stepping in front of Rin and prodding him in the chest to stop him.]

Hey, I get what you're saying. And you have every right to be angry and upset by it, it's not easy being yourself sometimes. Sometimes you're about the last person you want to deal with.

But those people don't know you and how they perceive you will never change who you actually are. So you've just gotta keep on going and prove them wrong, right? I mean you're training to be something positive for both communities of your world and you're actively keeping your powers under control. I think that counts for a lot.

[Then she smiles and ruffles his hair a little.]

And you're going to have to get used to people not being afraid of you. Especially me, I'm not afraid of anything.

Rin stumbles back a little, staring down at Maka with a clearly surprised expression. He doesn't know what to say at first, blinking with his mouth open as he tries to form... some semblance of words.

Eventually his shoulders slump after she ruffles his hair, but... he looks strangely grateful despite that.]

... Maka... thanks...

[She would usually ask "what for?" since obviously having faith in a friend comes naturally to her, buuuut...she's starting to get the feeling Rin doesn't have many people expressing faith in him.]
