Fai was heading to the shops to spend the day relaxing. The past couple days he had woken up in the morning feeling a little under the weather, which was rather odd for the upbeat vampire. He didn't think much about it, figuring it might be a trick of the bubble. If it could turn people into strange creatures, it also could have the power to make a vampire feel ill.

After moving around for awhile, he would feel slightly better. That day he had decided to finally venture out and get some lunch. But as he traveled that feeling of weakness washed over him again. He reached out and placed his hand against the side of the building he was next to as he tried to wait it out.

"I wonder if I've been pushing myself to do too much lately.." As he stood there a slow realization hit him. There was one activity he had not done recently that was vital to his continued survival.

"I can't just do that..I need..maybe the store.." He knew there was other vampires in this world and that they had managed to survive using other means. It was something he should have thought about before that point but Fai wasn't filled with any sort of blood lust. He was still getting used to the fact he had to survive with out Kurogane around. He didn't want to have to drink the blood of others unless it was absolutely necessary. But now he knew why he felt rundown. It had become necessary.

He turned towards the direction he knew a store was at, but it wasn't going to happen. His legs buckled and he fell forward.

I know..and I kept it hidden because I know it can be a difficult thing for people to accept.

But you shouldn't worry..I'm not the kind that just attacks people and takes what he wants.

Oh, of course it is. It's not every day you meet someone who has to drink blood to survive.

...And I guess if you were a kind that just attacks people like that, you wouldn't have so many problems right now.

That's true..I would have just fed as I needed to. [He smiles and holds up the bags.] This must seem rather pathetic for a vampire, doesn't it?

I don't know. Never seen any other vampire before.

[He lowers the bags and stares at them.] I actually only need the blood of one person in particular to survive..but he isn't here. I'm not even sure if this will be enough, but it's my only option. Otherwise I will have to find someone new to drink from..and I don't want to risk anyone's life.

And you didn't mind risking the life of that one person?

It wasn't my choice to become like this. He was the one that decided I should live on as a vampire, versus die in the world we were in. Because it was his choice to live and not mine..I am bound to him.

But he is strong and can handle giving me his blood, and I am careful with what I need. I don't know that there is anyone in this world that can handle it like he can.

So he never asked for your opinion, huh?

Was he really that tough?

[He shakes his head.] I had accepted death. He forced life upon me when I didn't want it. Now he pays the price of having to care for me for the rest of his.

[He had resented and pushed Kurogane away because of that..at least until what happened in Celes.]

He was the strongest person I knew. [He smiles at that, clearly rather fond of the ninja now despite everything.]

But since his not here... it would be pretty stupid of you to waste that life that was saved thanks to him.

_{[she sighs.]}

Not like you could die here...

I promised him I would live..and if drinking these will help me do that, then that is what I will do.

I may not die in this place..but I would suffer. [Fai smiles, but it is clearly one that is trying to cover up how much he hates all of this.]

I don't really like pain so I'd rather like to avoid suffering in any way.

_{[She gives him a look.]}

Then why not take better care of yourself? Even if you really don't like it, you're going to suffer a lot if you don't...

_{[is that concern in her voice?]}

I admit...I've kind of failed at taking care of myself in this place. But see..[he holds up the packs.] I'm trying to correct that now.

_[sigh.]

Guess I better keep an eye on you from now on, just to make sure.

[Fai laughs and heads towards the entrance. He doesn't really want to linger by the blood cabinet. He doesn't want the whole world to know what he is. Some might not take too kindly to it.]

Are you worried about me, Morte-san~?

And why would I be?

_{[she is worried. Totally worried.]}

[Fai smiles over at her.]

Because you are a friend and that's what friends do~

A friend, huh?

_{[... she... just doesn't like the sound of that.]}

Yes, a friend. [Fai nods and heads outside, hiding the blood pouch as best he can.]

But don't worry too much. Now that I know I can at least get this kind of thing..I'll be much better.

_{[Morte shakes her head, but then shrugs.]}

Just don't do anything stupid.

[Fai looks down at the bag in his hands then turns towards her, his expression rather serious again.]

I'd rather you didn't have to watch this..so I think I'm going to take it home. Thank you for accompanying me to the store, Morte-san.

_{[she can understand.]}

You really shouldn't thank me.

[He smiles gently at her.] You made sure I didn't die in the street. I have many reasons to thank you.

You really don't need to thank me.

_{[she smirks a little.]}

You owe me something now.
