LET'S D.D.R.!!! ☆
Who: Rue and Kyouko
When: Directly after this (ie. heavily backdated and we give no fucks.)
Where: The arcade in the plaza!
Style: [action forever]
Status: Closed
[Rue doesn't exactly know what to expect, or what to look for when she sets out to find the arcade. She is roaming the plaza; and in truth she's never been to the arcade in her life. She's had no reason to. There hadn't even been one, in the city of Gold Crown, and she can only assume what it might be like, and what childish "games" there would be there.
Luckily, the sign above the arcade is rather noticable-- maybe even unnecessarily so, thus it was not difficult to find it.
So she walks in, looking around cautiously for the familiar head of long, pony-tailed red hair. She is distracted, of course, by all the machines set up, and all the people playing them.
All the button mashing, the furious yelling, the cheering--
It isn't an environment she's used to, and not one she prefers. But she isn't one to go back on her word. She simply endures it, looking for this mysterious "DDR" game that Kyouko had so much regard for.
What exactly would it look like? She did mention arrows, huh...
Hmm.]

Yes. Good.
A little warming up never hurt anybody, right?
So she turns when she's done, looking around for Rue. It doesn't take her long to catch sight of her, and she jumps off of the platform and makes her way over.]
Took ya long enough. Got lost?
no subject
[
YesGosh, what would make her say that? Rue huffs when she approaches, turning suddenly at her voice.]I was simply taking my time. This is it, then?
[After that, she'll turn to the arrowed pads that Kyouko had just been playing on. Some other people have stepped up now, though, so they'd have to wait their turn.
Luckily, this means Rue can observe in the meantime.]
no subject
There it is! I'm one of the best at it, ya gotta practice hard to beat someone like me.
[ELITE!!!11!11!
Or something, she doesn't know.]
1/2
[She mumbles; and she would've rolled her eyes too, probably, if the game hadn't just begun. She's watching, and almost immediately, the players start to move their feet, practically stomping on the arrows--as if they were trying to hurt them.]
no subject
It's so loud, she's actually barely taken notice of whatever song they're "dancing" to.
...]
This isn't dancing at all!
[Heh.
She's huffy. It sure looks fun, though, and she does need to improve her stamina...]
no subject
[Heh. Regardless, it was interesting to see Rue's reaction.]
no subject
[She doesn't dignify that with a proper response. She merely continues to observe the game, waiting patiently with her arms folded.
And three songs later, because the two playing are apparently pretty decent at the game--
The rounds finally end, and they step off, oblivious to their audience. They walk off to find something else to occupy their time, leaving the machines free.]
no subject
Come on...
[When they left, she lunges to get the spot, turning over to Rue.]
Well, let's go!
no subject
[No need to rush. With a fold of her arms, she steps up to one of the pads; and since both pads look the same, she figures it doesn't matter which one. Hope you don't mind that she took the first spot, Kyouko.
She's staring down at the arrows now, and getting a feel for what the heck this game is all about. There's a strange bar behind the both of them as well--are they supposed to use it?
Her attention shifts easily as she tries to learn. This will possibly be the strangest thing she's ever done.]
no subject
Oh well. It didn't matter a whole lot in the end anyway - and she was ready to start this thing. Just saying.]
When you're ready, press start.
[She'll try to be patient...
Try, being the key word.]
no subject
Kyouko doesn't seem to care much about that, though, so she picks one at random that doesn't grate on her ears and presses...
...
Ah. Start. Yes, there it is.
The screen darkens and the arrows pop up at the top just like before, pulsating in time with the beat of the song. There are even little characters dancing in the background as the song begins.
Wow, that's only a bit distracting.]
no subject
She stomps in time to the beat of the arrows flashing in their spots, a wild smirk on her face. Rue had picked something she'd played before; so at least she had that much on her.
Let's see if she could keep up.]
no subject
Ahh, but Rue certainly tries her best.
...On a fairly hard setting, mind, since she basically went with what Kyouko chose there.
Needless to say, she can barely keep up with the arrows flying upward, especially as the song goes on. Her attempts leave her panting, and she unfortunately doesn't make it to the end of the song-- but she does notice something as she listens to Kyouko's stomping.
The beat.
Yes, the beat is the key then, isn't it? Even as she's panting, she manages to look determined, uttering--]
...Again.
no subject
She looks over at Rue after defeating her, tilting her head.]
Wanna get beat again? Be my guest.
[And she's off picking another song.]
no subject
They have three songs total anyway, right?
Or, that's what the machine keeps saying anyway.
She's just going to wait and catch her breath in the meantime, glaring. Isn't this a waste of her time...?]
no subject
[She grins as she picks the next song, with a peppy and upbeat beat. She bounces in the middle of the pad, trying to catch the rhythm.
This was too much fun.]
no subject
No, just kidding. She glares at Kyouko too for a brief second, then just turns her attention back to the screen when the song starts. Hmpth--]
I haven't given up yet.
[She plans to do better this time!!]
no subject
[Yup, the song's playing yet again and Kyouko's tapping her way through the music.
Try to keep up, Rue!]
no subject
She's doing significantly better, in fact, now that she's started to get the hang of it. But obviously she'll still need a lot of practice.
...NOT LIKE SHE CARES THOUGH this is just to pass the time!!! Yup.]
no subject
Especially since she wins.
OOPS she's just extremely competitive, no hard feelings. Right?]
no subject
Whatever, whatever. So unbothered. Unfortunately, though, since she was victorious twice in a row, she's declared the winner by the machine. So they kinda got robbed of their last song there, which would've been a tie breaker--
Yeah, thanks.
SHE'LL BE HAPPY TO STEP OFF, THOUGH, other people are forming behind them.]
Well, it seems we're done here.
That was...
[...man give her a minute her feet still kind of hurt. How does she even describe how that was like?]
no subject
She hops off, putting her hands on her hips and grins.]
Yeah? It was...?
[Finish your sentence, girl.]
no subject
Tch, but fine. She thinks about it for another moment longer, her breathing slowing down finally as she recovers. And with a 'hmpth' she mutters:]
Different.
no subject
Well yeah, it's gonna be different. I dunno how many games there are where ya stomp on arrows.
no subject
[Rue raises an eyebrow.
She meant different from her kind of dancing, but yeah, she can't really think of any other games like this either.
But then again, she is pretty sheltered.]
no subject
[She's only gotten a tad bit better since coming to Vat because lol bored.]
no subject
Her life at home kept her quite busy, though she supposes she can't say the same for everyone.
Especially not here. She gets bored herself--]
I suppose you could say there isn't much to do here, either.
no subject
[But she shrugs.] At least the food's free here.
no subject
[Always back to the food, with her. She never did find out what that was all about; her poking her head into her business and insisting that she finish her food.
She remembers that well.
But still, she shrugs too. Hmpth.]
Yes, that's true.
...And the peace and quiet certainly isn't a bad thing.
[Not always.]
no subject
Eh, it's boring. It doesn't give me a whole lot to do.
[Which is why she probably comes down to the arcade more often than not.]
no subject
Would you rather your life be in danger?
no subject
Been there, done that a lot. I guess you can kinda say I'm used to it. So ya can imagine where it's kinda boring here of all places.
no subject
She can't really wrap her head around it. But she won't shrug again. She'll just look a little curious...]
Fair enough...
But then you must have other ways to occupy your time. Other...games to play, perhaps?
[She doubts DDR is the only one.]
no subject
[And maybe draw on locals' faces when they're sleeping. Oh and eating. that's a big thing too.]
They still aren't old, to be honest.
no subject
You mean to say you still find them enjoyable?
[She's slowly learning some of this lingo, okay. She's just checking.]
no subject
[At least she was getting it finally.]
no subject
[Lol "kid." As if she's that much older than her.
But she's been called a lot of things, some worse than that, so she simply shrugs it off.]
Then perhaps there's something else here that's less of an insult to me. [And dance.]
Are you going to stay?
no subject
Yep. Not like I have a whole lot else to do today.
[She'll kick some person's butt elsewhere. (yea)]
no subject
But yeah okay cool then.
...Rue simply stares at her for a moment at that, clearly acknowledging her response. But she doesn't give one herself. She is walking off now to see what else this place has to offer.
Hmpf.]
no subject
Hm. What poor sucker should she take on next...?
She's not saying anything to Rue, but she is watching her.]
no subject
...She keeps ahead of her and eventually comes to a stop on her own, in front of machines that look a little like this. There are a bunch of them, and she looks above where the scores are being kept--
And where the name of the game seems to be.
"Skee Ball"?]
no subject
Played that before. Ya gonna give that a try too?
[She could beat her at that too if she wants. c:]
squints idk if this works as a thread ender BUT WE CAN WRAP IT UP HERE or smth idk idk
She looks a little tired, so as long as she doesn't have to exert that much effort...]
Fine.
[She doesn't really care.
It'll pass the time well enough. And with everything that's in this arcade, she knows that eventually she'll find something she enjoys.
Whether she'd be good at it-- well.
Only time would tell.]
