Why So Cold Vatheon?

Characters: Selphie and Anyone
Where: Plaza cafe.
When: Boom. After noticing Izaya is gone/early afternoon.

Selphie had been in Vatheon for over a year - she knew the score by now; people came, people went. The number of friends she'd seen come and go was...too much to think about. But everyone so often, Vatheon would whisk away a friend that she couldn't quick forgive the place for stealing from her.

It was slightly cooler, but Selphie sat outside the cafe, a large hot chocolate in front of her. There's a small plate with several empty cake wrappers on, and a larger tray with a pile of various cakes and slices that haven't been touched yet.

The usually cheery, very enigmatic girl is sat alone with her treats. What's up? Go say hello, cheer her up, or just pester her.

Well, there. He had made her laugh. He smiled a little.

"Most of the time," he agreed. "He has his moods." And maybe that was an understatement. For someone with no heart, he could be pretty expressive.

Selphie returned the smile and nodded, "Uh huh, that's definitely true!" She relaxed in her chair and sat back, looking much more at peace than she had before he arrived.

Roxas took another few bites of his cake, looking thoughtful.

"Has that been bugging you?" he asked. Her smile made it hard to tell, but somehow she seemed more at ease now.

"Hmmm?" Selphie chewed thoughtfully and swallowed slowly. "Has what been bugging me?" She blinked, wide eyes, because it was the first time in a while that anyone had asked if there was anything wrong, or anything annoying her.

He guessed he hadn't been very clear about it. "Axel- forgetting, I mean."

Selphie frowned, but only for a split second, before closing her eyes and smiling at Roxas, "I guess so! But it's happened a lot here!" She opened her eyes, wide, looking at him with plain honesty, "But you know what? It happens a lot here. I just have to get used to it. People going away all the time... Maybe never coming back."

Roxas didn't smile back. Instead he frowned. "Is that something you can- get used to?" Even if you could, he didn't think he'd want to. It was supposed to hurt when a friend went away, and if he got used to it, then wouldn't that mean it didn't hurt anymore?

"Well...Not in exactly. But I can. In a way, I guess. Sometimes it hits harder than at other times." She glanced at the empty stack of cake wrappers, knowing too well this was one of those times. "But.. it just happens so often that I guess getting used to it is the easiest thing. You kinda have ta."

Often? He was realizing now that if Axel had gone and come back once before, that that meant he might up and leave this place again. He hoped it wasn't as likely as she made it sound.

"...I hope I don't have to."

"I wouldn't worry about it. Not until it happens. Just now, just try and enjoy yourself as much as you can."

Selphie smiled and pushed the tray of cakes towards him.

He nodded slowly and then gave her a faint smile. "Yeah. I guess you're right." He was here on borrowed time anyway, really.

And if she was going to push more cake on him, well, he had room for a second slice.

"But hey, he's still here. And you're lucky. If he goes home, then you know you'll see him again. Not like those friends who are from totally different worlds."

Roxas couldn't help it; his face fell a bit again at that remark. "No. I'm just- not gonna worry about going home."

Selphie smiled and reached a hand to place on his shoulder, "While you're here, you shouldn't be doing any extra worrying. Your friends are here, and new friends too!"

He gave a slight start at the hand on his shoulder. He was barely used to that from Axel.

New friends? "Y-yeah, I guess so."

Selphie smiled and took her hand away, she didn't want to startle him. "Absolutely! Besides, I've given you cake now, so we're definitely friends!"

"Giving people cake makes you friends?" he asked with a wry smile. It wasn't far off from how his friendship with Axel had started. It had taken him a little while to understand it wasn't the ice cream that made them friends.

Selphie laughed; this guy is just cute, and she's feeling better already. "Not really, but it's a pretty good place to start, right?"

Roxas nodded, feeling better with this line of conversation himself. "Definitely."

Selphie tilted her head as she watched him for a moment, "Vatheon's not so bad. It has it's...awkwardness... but I think there are worse places."

"I know. I don't think it's bad at all so far."

It was the possibility of going home, or Axel going home, that worried him.

Selphie nodded and looked at the tray of cake, trying to select another slice, even if she was pretty full. "Then that's good!"
