Ran's usual morning jog took a little detour today. Instead of a refreshed and uplifted expression on the Japanese girl's face, her features were sharpened with a subdued rage. She breathed steady, channeling the negative energy into her legs, pushing off each step as her sneakers hit the pavement.

Beads of sweat ran down her face as she veered off her usual path and towards the forest, she she continued forward until, without warning--

"HaaAAAAAAAAHHHH!" A fierce scream pierced the peaceful morning, followed by a deafening crack as her foot connected with a tree mid-trunk. Her leg still raised, fists tightly clenched, Ran panted heavily, her bangs matted against her dewy forehead. She drew back her leg slowly. "Stupid...SHINICHI!!!" She punctuated her cry with a punch, followed by a roundhouse kick.

Stepping back, she let out a sigh, leaving the poor tree still standing, but with a sizable crevice now indented into its surface. Pushing back her damp bangs with the back of her hand, she smiled. "Well! That felt better!"

Oh, so she was just venting some frustration. Like when Heat would punch walls. Hard enough to do similar damage.

This could easily backfire on him but...

"Ah well, next time...can you make it not a tree?"

"Uh--" Ran blushed a bit. Was she causing a disturbance. "S-sorry..." She nervously laughed. "If there was a gym or something, that'd probably be better, wouldn't it?"

"Are you familiar with these parts? Any place you'd suggest?"

He was familiar with the area, but there wasn't anything that would make a suitable target for releasing pent up anger. So he was forced to admit that no, he doesn't have any suggestions. (Just what was a gym anyway?)

"Not really. Just try not to hit a tree, okay? They can't move or smile or talk, but they're still alive, ja? ...maybe a dead one instead." But how many dead trees were there? Pondering this, Cielo comes up with a different idea and snaps his fingers. "Or you could hit me, I'm tougher than I look."

He's hit plenty of times! Even by things that could, yes, leave cracks in trees.

Ran nervously smiles, and shrugs. "I'll...make sure not to hit the trees. I wouldn't want to be any trouble!"

Yeah, definitely find a gym. This guy was too nice! He didn't deserve to receive the grunt of her anger, especially when it was intended for someone much more deserving.

"Well, I don't think there would be trouble, unless the tree falls on you, ja?" As far as he knew, there was no law saying you couldn't punch or kick trees. Cielo simply liked plants and wanted to avoid loss of life, creature or plant, if at all possible. Hopping off the rock, he took a closer look at the crack in the tree. Ah well, you can't change the past. "I'm Cielo, what's your name?"

"Eh? Ran Mouri." Ran politely bowed with her introduction. "I'm living here with a little boy named Conan Edogawa. When did you get here?"

"Nice to meet you," he said, though he didn't understand what the bow was for. "I got here about a month ago with my leader, Serph."

Oh. [So that's why she hadn't seen him around.] So you arrived together too, huh?

That's right, just us two. We wish the others were here too.

"Others? Did you have a lot of friends you left behind?" Ran looked up in thought. "Come to think of it, it's just Conan and me, and..." Flat-stare. "That stupid Shinichi who really shouldn't count."

Cielo crossed his arms and closed his eyes. "...ja. Heat and Argilla and Gale and Sera. And..." He pauses for a moment and licks his lips. "I think the rest of the Tribe is dead." He didn't want to believe that, but it's kind of hard when the everything just exploded.

Oh, he shouldn't be thinking about this stuff now.

"So why shouldn't this Shinichi count?"

Ran's face went blank, her mouth gaping open slightly. Quickly, it was followed with a look of sympathy. "Oh..." She brought her hands up to cover her mouth. "I'm so sorry..!" Her eyes started to water out of sympathy. She hadn't meant to touch on a sore subject...that poor guy..!

"Eh?" Shinichi? She quickly changed her tune, and glared off the the side. "Because, he doesn't care to include himself with the rest of the world. Which is fine with me!"

"It's okay." It was depressing to think about, but Cielo didn't allow the sadness to overwhelm him. It's not what his comrades would want. "I know Heat, Argilla, Gale, and Sera are still alive somewhere. Maybe they'll come here sometime."

He tilted his head to one side. "Why won't he include himself? Sounds boring to me."

"Yeah, well..." Ran flatly glares off to the side. "He tends to be up in his own little fantasy...Sherlock Holmes and mystery solving day in and day out..." She started to drift off into muttering under her breath, and a heavy pause punctuated her sentence.

"Oh! But running helped me feel better, so I promise I'll not bring the trees any harm next time!" She brought up a straight hand in front of her face in an apologetic gesture. "Sorry about that!"

"It's no problem," Cielo said, giving a wave with his hand. "As long as you understand, ja?" It's a shame about that tree, but maybe it could recover. It was pretty amazing what living things could bounce back from. And if not, well, there's still creatures and such that rely on dead trees.

Or so he read in a book.

Ran nervously smiles. "Yeah, I understand, I understand..." She put a hand behind her head, rubbing the back of her head. "I should probably be getting back! Conan-kun's probably waking up, and I need to make breakfast!"

"Then you should probably be going now, ja?" Cielo thinks he's probably taken up too much of Ran's time now, and he should probably be going back to doing the absolutely nothing productive he was previously doing.. "It was nice meeting you!"

"Same to you, Cielo-san! Hope to run into you again sometime!" Ran brightly smiled and offered a wave. "Say--" She began to jog in place as she prepared to run off. "What do you do around here, anyway? Seeing as you're out here all by yourself."

"My friend and I live on the edge of the forest. I like to patrol around the area sometimes," he answered. There was close to zero reason to do so, but scout instincts don't die that easily. "Just look around, ja? It's very pretty."

"Oh, I agree!" Ran shrugs her shoulders. "It's amazing the scenery of this place, when you consider..." She drifts off. Considering they're in a bubble, after all.

But still, Shinichi was here, as was Conan-kun. As long as they were safe, they would manage, right?

"It's much nicer here than where I come from," Cielo said. "So I don't mind this place." Aside from the lack of his comrades, there was pretty much no area where Vatheon was not an improvement. "Hey, don't you have to go back home?"

"Oh! Right! I'm going to be late!" She turned on her heel and waved behind her, calling out. "Have a good one, Cielo-san!"
