[Otoha stands on the top of one of the tall buildings in the middle district, looking out over the city, black trenchcoat flapping out behind him. He can't help but miss his city, the one he's tied to, but there's work to do here, too.]

[Adjusting his sword, he leaps onto another building, and then another, making his way to the ground level. Once there, he starts running through the streets, eyes alert and watching for any sort of criminal or dangerous activity.]

[Every so often, he jumps back up to the rooftops, making sure that there's no one there, either.]

[So if your character's out tonight, they'll probably catch a glimpse of something dark racing past them. If they're sharp, they might even see that it's man-shaped. And if they can detect spiritual activity… they'll find that there's a sealed beacon of power jumping from place to place.]

[ That causes Naoya to draw his own sword, bringing it up in front of himself to defend any shots that might be thrown at him. ]

[He gets closer, and closer, and... wait. He stops, staring for a moment.]

... Naoya?

[singsforsouls]

[ Wait -- that voice is familiar. Naoya looks around his blade, trying to puzzle out who it is. ]

...yes?

[bakegarasu]

It's Otoha.

[He steps a little closer, lowering his sword slightly.]

[ Well, that is certainly a surprise. ]

...oh.

[ There is a slightly awkward moment before Naoya lowers his sword as well. ]

Hi.

[bakegarasu]

Hey. What are you doing out so late?

[And with a sword, and... this is suspicious, okay? :| ]

[singsforsouls]

[ Says the man whipping around like a shadow with a sword of his own. ]

Scouting around.

[ Naoya shrugs and sheathes his sword. ]

What are you?

[bakegarasu]

[He's a special case, okay?]

Pretty much the same.

... Human. Or I used to be.

[- oh it's the speed thing, isn't it.]

I was pretty much always this fast, though.

[ Blink. ]

I just meant what you were doing out here, but that works too.

[ He gives the man a slight smile. ]

Sorry if I startled you.

It's... okay. At least I recognized you in time.

It's okay. Nao says everything in a pretty flat tone anyway.

[ He would rather not have to fight people he actually rather likes. ]

I know you said your world had demons, and you seem to be able to take care of yourself, but shouldn't you be in bed?

[singsforsouls]

[ The fatherly tone was rather surprising, but it made Naoya smile a little. ]

I don't sleep much.

[ Might as well do something productive with his time instead. ]

Mm. I don't either.

[... What the hell.]

Mind company on your patrol?

[ A smile crossed Naoya's face. Sure, it was odd, but... what the hell? ]

Sure.

Do you do this a lot?

[bakegarasu]

Yeah, I do. It's kind of part of what I do at home.

[singsforsouls]

As part of an official group, or unofficially?

[bakegarasu]

No, not officially - at least not by human standards. At home it's because I'm the protector of the city. Here it's more out of habit.

[singsforsouls]

Protector of the city? What does that mean?

[ It sounded rather important, even if it was not by "human standards." ]

[bakegarasu]

... The will of the city, called 'Yurine', finds a human soul who meets... specific requirements. Then she forms a contract with it, and that soul is bound to protect the city and preserve balance in it.

...so is it alive, like it seems Vatheon is?

[bakegarasu]

I'd say so. I don't really know all of the details. I'm still pretty new at this.
