[The aftermath of the curse had been painful for many, and the Sheikah felt the need to help the city. The memories of being a siren were far too fresh, so he chose this form to do it. Finding the highest spot that he can, he takes out his harp and sings the Song of Healing, praying for all those with heavy hearts right now to find some peace. His voice is soft and low, but it carries across the plaza with ease, seeking out those that might need to hear it.]

[He laughs and shakes his head.]

I couldn't. It was a very personal sort of hurt. I don't want to intrude on their privacy as well as having done that...

[Sola... that post he had made. He just looked so dead...]

[Serph nods, understanding. He doesn't need to know what has happened. If Shiek doesn't want to tell him, then he won't ask any further.

He'll put a comforting hand on Shiek's shoulder, if he will allow it.]

Hurt can be healed here. There is time, when there's no fighting.

[The touch is startling, but he accepts it.]

I hope that is so. I think it may be best for them if I don't contact them again, though.

[Serph personally doesn't think so, but since he doesn't know the situation between the two, he keeps his mouth shut about his views and lets his hand drop from Shiek's shoulder.]

Does your song soothe you when you play it?

[He looks at Serph curiously.]

Not in particular. Why do you ask?

[It just seems a little sad for one to soothe everyone else's hurt except their own.]

Maybe if you taught someone the same song, one could give you the same calmness you have given Vatheon.

Perhaps. I'm not sure that it can be done without a magical instrument.

[He caressed the harp lovingly.]

If you'd like to learn it, I can teach you regardless.

[Serph nods.]

I'd like to.

[...Though no guarantees on how well he'll learn without a single musical bone in him.

Actually there's something about this guy that's bothering Serph. Despite being a stranger, his scent is oddly familiar. But he'll postpone that conversation for later.]

[Sheik takes out some paper and begins to write. He had no qualms about doing so, it wouldn't reveal his identity - he used the opposite hand as a Sheikah. He writes the lyrics of the first verse down and hands it to Serph, then pics up his harp and plays again, singing it for him.]

[Hmm? What is this paper for-- oh. The sad thing about this song is that it speaks of going back to better days. But for him, all the better days lie in the future, not the past.

Nevertheless, Serph has his eyes fixed on Sheik, listening intently, hearing the rise and fall in pitch as Sheik sings. Memorising the song is an easy task for him. He stays quiet, though, not wanting to sing until he is prompted to.]

[Sheik nods to him, starting the song over.]

Sing along with me, this time.

[If he's tone deaf, Sheik can lead him.]

[Serph nods, and will follow the lead of Sheik. Unfortunately, while Serph has a great memory, his singing leaves a lot to be desired. Even with the help of Sheik, his pitch is usually slightly off. Sometimes a semi-tone too high... or a semi-tone too low.

He can tell he's off because his sound isn't matching Sheik's, but he just can't quite hit the right notes.

...This is hard >:T]

[The strange tones hurt Sheik's sensitive ears, but he doesn't comment.]

It can be a little difficult at first. If you take out your SFC, I can record it for you.

[He just isn't made for singing. At least Serph's trying hard!

Nodding, he takes out his SFC. He fiddles with it for a moment to set the device to record an entry under private lock. He looks back at Sheik and gives him a small nod -- a signal to resume the song -- when his SFC is ready to record.]

[Sheik plays the song once more, never faltering. If there's one thing the Hylian Royal Family would brag about, it would definitely be their musical talent.]

This song also works to calm restless ghosts, if you learn it properly.

[When the song ends, Serph turns off recording. From now on, if he is at the base -- an abandoned building he and Cielo have staked out for themselves -- there's a very good chance the recording will be played on loop.

He tilts his head questioningly.]

What is a ghost?

A ghost is a spiritual imprint that some people leave behind when they die. Usually those with unfinished business.

[He sets his harp to the side, wondering if Vatheon has any ghosts...]

[Serph thinks over that for a while. He doesn't think the comrades he's lost have turned into ghosts. Sure, some of them had unfinished business -- Lupa springs most readily to mind -- but they had passed the torch to him and Tribe. Being able to persist beyond death... it sounds like one must have an incredible amount of dedication to their cause.

He tilts his head to look up at the 'sky' of the underwater city.]

When people die, they rise to the clouds. Then they eventually fall with the rain and are born again.

[He thinks it's unnecessary to add the 'in my world' to his statements.]

[Sheik tilts his head back too.]

A circle of life. That is how it should be, but sometimes people stay for whatever reason.

[He's got no doubt that he'll be a ghost in Hyrule for awhile once he eventually dies.]

[He's never considered life ever being something other than a cycle of reincarnation. But... does reincarnation still exist if the Junkyard is gone? He doesn't know, and brushes it from his mind; it's something he'll figure out when he returns to his world.

He gives Sheik a small nod in acknowledgement of his words -- he has no more input to it -- before pocketing his SFC and moving on to a new topic.]

Do you know Zelda?

[Sheik deflects the question, not entirely sure why he wants to keep his second identity a secret but feeling the need anyway.]

It is the duty of the Sheikah to guard the Hylian royal family.

[He knows Zelda better than anyone else does!]

[So... Sheikah is a title? He has no idea what a 'royal family' is, but he can guess Zelda is part of it. But... if she is supposed to be guarded, then either Zelda is someone like a Leader, or someone who needs to be contained.

...Somehow, he doesn't think it's the latter. Serph isn't so easily deflected, however.]

You have the same scent as her.

[Well, not exactly the same -- Sheik being male and Zelda being female -- but it's bewildering how similar their scent is. Even those of the same Tribe have vastly different scents. He'd like an explanation.]

Is that so? I cannot say that my sense of smell is strong enough to be able to discern that.

[Smell is something Sheik has really never thought of...]

[He supposes that's normal, if Sheik is not a demon. It seems Sheik is avoiding directly telling him his relation to Zelda, but... he'll take the implication that Sheik is her bodyguard. He doesn't have much reason to believe otherwise, so he won't push the topic.

So he nods.]

There is a girl from my world who sings a song like yours.

[He doesn't make mention that the song calms the demon within him. But he doesn't realise that Sheik may remember mention of the same girl during their real first meeting.]

If she arrives, I'm sure she won't mind singing for you.
