[That end-of-the-world thing has been weighing on Yukio pretty heavily. Since the Station Master's announcement he's spent a large chunk of his time going through all the information he's found concerning Vatheon's origins and purpose. It's all stuff he's been over multiple times before, but to be perfectly honest? He has no idea what else to do. There's clear timeline, no plan of action, and it is incredibly frustrating.

But that's not terribly important, is it? Not when Yukio is right now sitting on the couch, comb in hand, trying to work through some nasty tangles he's somehow managed to accumulate in the tuft of fur at the end of his new tail.]

[What's that?

It's Maka plopping down a grooming kit next to Yukio.

A grooming kit.]

Here, this is what we use for Rin's tail.

This is Yukio blinking at Maka.

And then staring at the kit like it's alien technology.]

That's right.

[SHE SEEMS SO UNPERTURBED BY IT...yeah, she's opening it up and laying out the tools for him.

It's sure a fully functional grooming kit.]

Kid got it for us for Christmas last year, after he found out that Rin had a tail.

[Just gonna sit there looking vaguely confused for a while longer, his tail in one hand and the comb in the other.]

A comb isn't good enough?

Well maybe, but it's gonna hurt a lot more, don't you think?

[Yukio pls, she's just trying to help.]

[Frown.]

I wouldn't know. I've never had to do this before.

...[God save her from this awkward.]

[Never mind, just kill her.]

[No, no, this awkward is unacceptable.]

You don't need to do that.

No, I don't, but if you're having difficulty I'm going to ask if I can help. Letting someone struggle while knowing you can help isn't very...nice.

[He's still not really... pleased with Maka, but she is just trying to be nice. And he really wasn't having much success with the comb anyway.

After a moment Yukio sighs, dropping the comb into his lap.]

Could you show me how?

It shouldn't be too hard, since you've only just gotten this tail. Up until Kid arrived in Vatheon, Rin never brushed his tail.

[She picks up a heavy-looking comb and sets to work raking out the biggest tangles.]

...[Not too hard, though.] I had a tail once, though. Brushing it wasn't that easy. It seems a lot more sensitive than hair usually is, doesn't it?

It's a wonder he ever managed to get the knots out at all.

[Maka is touching his tail and this is weird, but Yukio just settles his hands in his lap and deals with it.]

I don't think it's the hair so much as the nerve endings attached to them. Tails are connected to the spinal cord. Dozens of bones which are surrounded a multitude of tiny nerve endings...

[ For her part, Liz has just... been trying to stay positive. She's dealt with end of the world type situations before. Or at least situations that could very easily lead to the end of the world. This is no different. It'll be fine. It'll all... be okay. They'll survive.

Right? Right.

But as a reminder of where they're still at, animal parts had to come in to play. Of course, she hasn't minded her new set of rabbit ears. Trying to figure out how to wear clothes with a tiny ball of puff on her backside was a little more difficult, but nothing that a nice pair of low-rise jeans couldn't fix.

Still, it didn't seem everyone got off as easy. ]

You can't just attack it like that, you know. It'll never come out that way.

[Yukio blinks up at her, comb stilling as he takes in those new fuzzy ears.]

... Why not?

[Yukio, you dumb boy.]

You're gonna make it worse, that's why.

[ She sits down with a flop next to him and holds out a hand expectantly. ]

Hand over the comb.

[He starts to hand the comb over before stopping himself.]

I think I can manage it, Liz-san...

Really? 'Cause that's not what I'm seein'. How long have you been at this?

[Glancing down at his watch with a frown.]

... About thirty minutes.

[ And now Liz is just going to give him a look and gesture with her hand again. ]

[He hesitates for a few more seconds... and then sighs heavily and hands over the comb.]

That's better. Now I promise I'll be gentle. I used to untangle my sister's hair all the time.

[ She takes the comb in one hand and the end of his tail in the other, turns so that she has her legs folded under her in the chair, and gently starts going after the very end first. ]

The key is starting at the bottom first.

[What is it with these forward blondes trying to get their hands on his tail? He sits stiffly while she works, hands folded in his lap.]

I've never dealt with hair any longer than what's on my head.

[ ~~but this one's single~~ ]

I figured as much. Most guys haven't.

[ The knots are already starting to come undone as she moves up the hair bit by bit.

An ear on her head twitches in concentration. ]

That's part of why you have cute girls like me around. To help with this kind of thing.

[NOPE, eyes fixed forward, not looking at the cute girl. Because it's much easier not to look awkward that way.]
