[He's still not really... pleased with Maka, but she is just trying to be nice. And he really wasn't having much success with the comb anyway.

After a moment Yukio sighs, dropping the comb into his lap.]

It shouldn't be too hard, since you've only just gotten this tail. Up until Kid arrived in Vatheon, Rin never brushed his tail.

[She picks up a heavy-looking comb and sets to work raking out the biggest tangles.]

...[Not too hard, though.] I had a tail once, though. Brushing it wasn't that easy. It seems a lot more sensitive than hair usually is, doesn't it?

[Maka is touching his tail and this is weird, but Yukio just settles his hands in his lap and deals with it.]

I don't think it's the hair so much as the nerve endings attached to them. Tails are connected to the spinal cord. Dozens of bones which are surrounded a multitude of tiny nerve endings...

...I wasn't there, but Kid's persistent and not...very gentle, so Rin probably screamed a lot.

[She'll try to at least avoid having that happen to Yukio. Next she goes over it with a fine-toothed comb, then a bristled brush to smooth it out.]

That makes sense. They seem more like an inconvenience, really, even if they are cute. [She surveys her handiwork for a moment, yes, the tail looks nice and glossy now, and pats him on the shoulder before putting away the tools.] You're done, by the way.

Most animals with tails use them for balance, so inconvenient or not, they're important.

[Stop being a smarty-pants, Yukio. This is Maka Albarn you're talking to.

He looks down at her work, tail flicking back into his lap where he brushes his fingertips over it lightly.]

You and Rin aren't animals, so for people they're more like accessories. Think about it--every demon I've met walks on two legs, so what's the point of them having a tail? It seems more like a weak point that was just added in to balance out the fact that demons are already very powerful.
