Who: Dirk and Open

Style: Starting prose, but I'll follow.

Today has been a day of training for Dirk.

Not his usual style of training, with a sword or even the puppets he occasionally uses to fight. Nor has he gone somewhere like the forest or the island which have plenty of open spaces appropriate for sparring. Instead, he's spent the day sitting by the front steps of the library. He isn't wearing the shirt emblazoned with an orange hat that is his usual choice, either. Instead, he's wearing a maroon shirt with a pink heart emblazoned on it.

He's also got a stack of books beside him that he appears to be making his way through. By the afternoon, he's been working all day to no effect, so he sets the most recent tome aside and leans back against the steps to get the crick out of his neck. "How the fuck do you even define a soul, anyway." He apparently isn't paying attention to where he is, because the comment is more than loud enough to be heard by anyone passing by.

"You're a Heart player?" That perks Equius up, and he glances over curiously. "Nepeta was a Heart player. She never went God Tier, though." He considers for a moment, then offers his own information. He likes Dirk, and knows that he didn't intend to bring up such a sensitive subject. "I was a Void player. Heir of Void."

"Yeah? What was she?" Dirk doesn't know Nepeta well enough to begin guessing what her class would be. He does, however, know something else. "Ro-Lal's Void too, but she's a Rogue. She's got more of a handle on her shit than me, despite being a classy thief of nothingness."

"Nepeta was a Rogue too. The Rogue of Heart." Equius looks back at his hands. "We only had two trolls in our session go God Tier, and then one of them got killed."

"We all got God Tier, through nebulous fuckery involving a lollipop." Hopefully Equius doesn't ask. It's not something Dirk will be inclined to go into detail about. "For all the damn good it did. We still got captured like a bunch of tools two seconds later."

Equius isn't inclined to ask, mostly because that sounds like a patented Strider exaggeration. "Who captured you?"

"The Condesce." There is an incredible amount of distaste packing into just that one line. "To be more accurate, she got all of my friends, then teleported me into the middle of fucking nowhere, putting me effectively out of commission until I could actually get back into range of Skaia."

"Ah." Equius has slightly mixed feelings about the Condesce, and would rather not talk about her in any detail. "But you're fast, right? You won't be separated for too long."

"Can't flashstep through empty space, dude. I'm stuck doing God Tier flying, and hell if I know how far out I was." It's not a pleasing prospect, but as if he's going to message Jade and ask her nicely to teleport him back.

"You'll do it." Equius' voice is full of quiet, simple confidence; he knows Dirk will be able to save the day.

"We'll see about that." But it's a nice sentiment anyway, one that gets a small grin out of Dirk. He's the guy who gets shit done, it's nice that someone thinks of him that way.

What can Equius say, he's got a bit of a brocrush on Dirk, and that smile makes him happy. "So what is being God Tier like?" He only sounds slightly wistful.

"It feels like wearing a dumb outfit because the game thinks you should," Dirk says flatly. He's obviously not all that impressed with God Tier. "I guess the flying thing is pretty cool."

"Flying sounds pretty cool." Even though Equius can STRONG jump to most of the places he wants to go. "I think you'd like your outfit better if it were different colors." His own God Tier outfit would have been blue, had he gotten it, so he wouldn't have had a problem with the fancy pajamas, beyond the obvious tearing-the-sleeves-off part.

"It's not the colors I mind, it's the stupid shorts." And the hood. It's not the most flattering of God Tiers. "At least the gloves are kickass, I guess."

"What's wrong with shorts?" Frankly, Equius thinks Dirk is a little crazy for wearing pants all the time to begin with. He can agree about the hood, though. "The gloves are good."

Fingerless gloves for the win.

"Nothing's wrong with regular shorts. The problem is that they're poofy." He knew about them in advance, and the shorts haven't endeared themselves to him ever since he actually got his God Tier.

"They are... awfully poofy." Equius bites the inside of his cheek to keep from smirking. He's only partially successful.

"Which is why I don't wear them." Dirk, of course, is maintaining a perfect poker face.

"Anyway," all right, back to business, "have you found out anything about being a Heart player?"

"The only thing I know about my God Tier is what I learned about it before getting it." It doesn't seem like it was particularly useful information, either. "Prince of Heart means something roughly analogous to a destroyer of souls. Of course, I have no idea how to fucking do that."

"Why would you want to destroy a soul to begin with?" Knowing that back on their world, Equius is nothing but a soul, this makes him a little nervous.

"If I needed to keep my friends safe, I'd do it. If I needed to make sure someone couldn't do anything to anyone ever again. I'd do it in a heartbeat." His voice is full of steel as he says it. No one messes with his friends.

"That makes sense." Even to Equius, that makes sense. "How are you going to practice, though?"

"There've been attacks on this place occasionally, I bet I'll get a chance." He wouldn't feel bad using it against something like a giant squid, though Feferi might get mad at him. "But in most cases I don't care about practicing as long as I know that I can do it."

"Do plants have souls? Maybe you could try on a plant first. If you practice on animals, you're going to make Summoner angry with you." As far as Equius is concerned, Dirk can destroy the souls of krakens all he wants.
