Who: Laharl, Saber, and you!
Where: Some uninhabited part of the island
When: Evening
Style: We'll match?
Status: Open!
[Although they made sure to stage their fight well away from the village to avoid too much collateral damage, anyone on the island might have noticed the smoke and distant booms resulting from the battle. The two powerful forces clashed for several hours, throwing up the earth and scorching the make-shift arena.
And now at last they've come to an amicable draw, though that might not be the conclusion anyone draws from the sudden quiet. Surely someone is dead after all that, right?
But no. Some nearby trees are on fire and the terrain looks quite a bit rockier, but both warriors are still standing. Laharl brushes dust off his hands and inspects an already-healing gash in his arm.]
Not bad.
((Feel free to come investigate and say hello to the pair.))

..Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that Lloyd is anywhere near the level Saber and Laharl are. Well, it'd be abnormal if Lloyd was. ]

Do you really think you can get away just because you can jump?
[Gathering his mana, he uses it to launch himself into the air, blades held so that when his whole body somersaults through the air, his swords are right there to slice with it, aiming straight for Laharl.]
Tempest!
no subject
[It's not hard to see him preparing for another attack, and Laharl draws his sword from out of his scarf to meet it, not bothering to drop down to the ground. Unintimidated, he strikes to interrupt the flurry of blades before it reaches him.]
no subject
But, no, the knight decides to try to remain patient and simply watches. ]

Which means he'll have to try something else. Lloyd steels himself as he straightens up. Man, I hope I'm ready for this. He takes a breath - and if either of them can sense such things, they'll feel his mana suddenly swell to an extreme before suddenly erupting from his back in streams of blue-green light. The light quickly solidifies, forming two feathery, wispy wings.
Readjusting his grip, Lloyd glares before launching himself straight at the boy. He swings his swords with deadly intent.]
I can fly, too, Laharl!
no subject
[So the way the kid looks with those wings isn't helping him any. Although there's still no deadly intent in Laharl's actions, there's certainly an intent to do harm as he pulls back for an attack and unleashes a Wind Cutter technique. Angled, of course, so that the end of it will blow past Saber rather than hitting her.]
i hope this is okay. you guys can always let me know on plurk if you want saber back.
Laharl, I'll be taking my leave. I'm sure you need no assistance nor audience. [ She smiles briefly, and then looks to Lloyd. She doesn't expect Lloyd to respond, but she can't be rude. ]
Best wishes, Lloyd.
[ With that, the knight steps back a few more times and then turns with the intention on leaving the scene.
She's sure Laharl will tell her about the outcome, regardless. ]
It's fine! o/
D-dammit, he's stronger than I thought. I need to get serious. But what does he have that would work? He's got stronger techniques, but with the skill the demon's already proved with blocking and dodging attacks, Lloyd has a feeling they won't be effective enough. Maybe if his friends were with him...
But they aren't. Even the woman, Saber, left - getting herself someplace safe, he assumes. He's only got himself. Which means he needs to hit Laharl hard and fast with something the demon won't expect.
The answer shines, bright and obvious in his mind. Lloyd takes a breath, trying to steady his nerves. I can do this. I've been training my magic with Dhaos.
Flying back, hopefully out of the range of the demon's techniques, Lloyd reaches out and starts focusing every bit of magical energy he can grasp.]
Sacred Powers, cast your purifying light upon this corrupt soul...
[As he chants, a deadly, dangerous haze of mana starts to visibly warp the air just above his skin.]
no subject
I have this covered.
[He doesn't expect the kid to last too much longer anyway. He might've put a little too much power into that Wind Cutter... but then he senses Lloyd gearing up for another attack of some kind. He frowns, not worried, but wondering if the kid is overdoing it.]
What're you up to now, brat?
no subject
Then, eyes flashing, he glares at Laharl.]
Rest in peace, demon! Judgment!
[His snarl is lost in the crash and the roar as blinding bolts of light rip through the air, targeting Laharl.]
no subject
[Towards he end of that build-up, he realizes this is actually going to hurt, but it's too late to interrupt and he does have a morbid curiosity. Laharl drops back down to the earth, his scarf reshaping itself to form a shield around him. It isn't going to provide much protection against this kind of spell, but it takes the edge off.
He takes the brunt of the attack with a grimace, feeling the burn that he doesn't get from actual fire. When it subsides, his scarf loosens from its shape, but he stays crouched there, catching his breath. It's left no visible wounds, but he can feel it.]
...heh. So you do have some bite.
no subject
But it worked! He used a spell and it worked exactly like he wanted! Man, I can't wait to tell Dhaos!
Right, he still has a fight to focus on. At least now he knows he's done some damage! He's not sure how much damage, since there's no visible wounds, but Laharl is definitely acting hurt. That's more than enough to boost Lloyd's confidence.]
Yeah, and there's more where that came from! You should give up now and surrender!
no subject
It isn't.]
You're getting awfully cocky for having landed one blow.
[That might have hurt, but he's fought on in much, much worse condition. He'll just have to give the kid a taste of what he's really up against. Without any further warning, he charges Lloyd, fire surrounding his hand as he leaps up to slam his fist into the brat or the ground--whichever one happens to still be under him when he lands. Flames errupt from the impact, not that they're going to do Laharl any harm.]
no subject
Whoa!
[More to buy himself time and to keep Laharl back, Lloyd swings his swords down at the demon's head.]
no subject
no subject
Wh- Hey! Let go!
[He tries to free his sword, no lightweight himself with an angel's strength to back him, but Laharl is strong! It's like trying to pull a sword out of a mountain! He swings his other sword again, trying to force Laharl to let it go.]
You can't dodge if you're standing there holding my sword!
no subject
Instead of leaping back, though, he dodges around the side of Lloyd's body, moving in too close for swords to be practical, and attempts simply to punch him in the face.]
no subject
Wham!
Pain slams into his world with the force of a demon's fist, hard enough to scatter stars across his vision. He cries out in pain, almost forgetting even to keep himself in the air, though he tumbles and drops a few feet down. Somehow, probably through muscles that have been trained to remember, he keeps hold of his swords, blindly bringing them up to defend.
Much good it will do if Laharl tries to attack again before he can recover his vision.]
no subject
Maybe you should quit trying to fly, brat.
no subject
[Lloyd hits the ground hard, scraping the dirt and skidding to a stop. A few wispy feathers litter the ground in his wake, lingering for a moment before the energy that makes them up fades. Wincing, Lloyd pushes himself up off the ground.]
Told you... not... to call me a brat!
[He can't stay down. He can't! Laharl could attack again at any moment! Staggering upright, Lloyd slashes, breathing raggedly.]
Demon Fang!
[Energy lashes out again, boiling across the ground in another deadly, but erratic shockwave.]
no subject
[Still hovering a bit above the ground, it only takes a flap of Laharl's scarf-wings to carry him above the attack. He hangs there, looking down at his opponent.]
Just give it up. You can't beat me.
no subject
[Yeah, even he knows how ridiculous a demand that is. He straightens up, glaring at Laharl as he tries to weigh his options.]
I'm not going to give up! Not as long as you're threatening the island!
no subject
Since when am I threatening the island?
no subject
Almost right from the start! You told me to try to stop you!
[That implies that there's something to stop!]
no subject
[It actually has been more fun than he anticipated.]
