[ Annabeth makes her way out to the garage cum workshop adjoined to their house that Leo has claimed for all of his mechanical work. Once there, she picks her way over various springs, bolts and actual Celestial Bronze scattered over the floor so she doesn't have to yell over the sound of the music blaring away while Leo works. ]

Hey! Gearhead! Guess what I found?

[ She takes an object the size of a PDA or smartphone out of her back pocket and begins to unfold it, first into a tablet computer and eventually into a full-sized laptop with a large blue Δ on the lid. No one would guess just by looking at it that it was possibly hundreds of years old, and at least fifty years ahead of its time now too.

As soon as she opens the lid a 3D model of the computer itself begins to rotate above the keyboard, complete with a schematic of every single part that had been used to build it. ]

I hope so. I think one was for something we saw in his workshop before he died, but I have no idea what it did.

[ And Annabeth knows he has the edge when it comes to mechanics. Sure, she has a few problems with pride but she's also learning the wisdom of when to admit she doesn't know everything. She's glad to have Leo for those moments.

She watches as he gets to work, fascinated as always. ]

Got any plans? I've heard rumours about what you like to do on your birthday...

I'm kind of jealous that you got to check out his workshop. I bet it was full of cool things.

[He spends more time looking at the specs than what he's actually doing, but everything is turning out the way it's meant to.]

I've got some stuff in the works. [He looks up and smirks.] And no, I'm not telling you what any of them are. Ruins the surprise.

Yeah it was amazing, you would've loved it. I didn't get much of a chance to check it out though before the place burned down. Thank god we managed to rescue this baby.

[ She pats the laptop like it's a pet, rather than a machine. ]

Oh have you now. [ She raises an eyebrow. ] I better not end up with tacos anywhere near my clothing, Valdez.

What a waste. I don't want to think about how much was lost. [He frowns, thinking about how much of Archimedes' work had been destroyed by Gaea in Rome.] Always a real pity.

[Leo smiles a little at Annabeth patting the laptop. Mostly because he does the same thing with a lot of his machines.

He laughs.]

Don't worry. Tacos aren't until Christmas.

Yeah neither do I. I had nightmares about it a couple of times. So much of that stuff, there for so long and it had to disappear during our point in history.

[ It's a sore spot for Annabeth that so much of that has happened. She feels bad about Archimedes' workshop too, now that she'd heard about it from Leo here in Vatheon. ]

Hmmm well, as long as I don't wake up with a firecracker in my bed or something, we're all good. Piper's given me the low-down on you...

I've had a few too about Archimedes workshop.

[And all that happened after it before they wound up here. And by a few he means every night until after he talked with Annabeth about all of that.]

Heh. I'll be passing on anything that can start a fire. [He pauses.] Back home or since she got here?

[In his head he's chanting "please say back at home. please say back at home." If they've been talking about him since she arrived. Well. No point in dwelling on that right now.]

And that's fair enough.

[ She says it lightly although she catches an edge to Leo's voice after that pause. What was he so worried about? ]

Why? Would it make a difference?

Just curious. [He shrugs.]

And I guess it wouldn't really. [Except that it would mean there was a chance of Annabeth having filled her in on all the things that had happened here since they arrived.]

Hmmm. [ Annabeth starts to wonder. There were definitely some things that she could imagine Piper being interested in that perhaps Leo would rather she not know. Like who he's crushing on, for instance. ]

Anyway, it's both. She's known you a while, of course we've talked about you're birthday and stuff.

[He's not thrilled to hear they were talking about his birthday. He knows that with this many people knowing about it, it's not going to go by as no big deal. Though his plans to prank friends would wind up making things a big deal, but that was different.]

Gotcha.

[He continues working on the laptop, using that as an excuse to not say more on the topic than he already had.]
