driven into a mimefield

Kurloz wandering around might be a common sight in the bubble by now. He certainly stands out in the crowd, between his towering height, his skeleton costume and purple shorts, his facepaint and his horns. When he's around, it's impossible not to notice him, and when he disappears, he's impossible to find.

Today definitely isn't one of those days where he's hiding out. Quite the opposite, in fact. He's not making his idle way around the city or the island. Rather, he's apparently decided to take a stop in the Plaza and hang out there for a while. At first glance, it looks like he's just taken a seat somewhere, and is peoplewatching with his normal creepy stare. Only this time, when anyone passes too close, he starts moving, banging his fist on the air in front of him... almost as though he's trapped by an invisible wall.

[ Oh my glob, a zombie!

Gumball had no idea that they had zombies here too, someone must be reanimating corpses around somewhere! Well, as Gumball has very limited self-defense against zombies, he freezes like a deer in headlights. ]

[ However, after a moment, he notices the knocking and notes that this zombie is trapped in an invisible box!

Phew! Safe for now.

He reaches a fist forward to knock on the box as well but obviously there is nothing there so this is a very curious situation. ]

That's funny...

[Kurloz is gleeful inside when he sees Gumball's startled reaction, but his expression doesn't change from one of startled worry on the outside. He starts feeling at the place where the box should be, in the air around Gumball's hand, getting close to but never quite touching the Prince's hand. From the way he's moving, it looks like Gumball's gesture put a dent in his box.]

[ Gumball withdraws his hand quickly so as not to make the dent large enough to create a hole for the zombie to escape! He tries gathering air from around the hole to push it into the dent and then smooth it over.

Hopefully, nobody noticed.

Even though his past experiences with zombies tell him to go with his gut, he can't help but think this zombie doesn't seem so bad. So after he is done fixing the dent in the invisible box, he gives the zombie a very hesitant wave. ]

[The problem is, the dent is inward toward Kurloz. But he'll take pity on Gumball, and with apparent great effort, push the box's wall back in to being flat.

That done, he "leans" on the wall, and blinks in surprise when Gumball waves. Finally, with a smile, he waves back.]

[ That's teamwork spelled Y-O-U A-N-D M-E!

He steps back slightly when the zombie leans against the wall. Fortunately, there is a barrier keeping him safe for now.

Gumball mirrors the wave with a bit more enthusiasm. ]

What is this prison?

[What is it? Well, it isn't. But Kurloz isn't about to say that. Instead, he starts feeling his way along the wall, until he gets to the "top", where he almost bangs a horn. From there, he starts feeling out the "walls" until he's turned around in an entire circle, and is facing Gumball again.]

[ Gumball watches him do this and has a moment.

Just a moment.

He's trapped

Yes. It's his turn to be the hero this time. ]

I'll get you out of there, zombie.

[zombie? Wow, Gumball, don't you recognize a troll when you see one? Not that he wasn't dead before he got here, but that's beside the point.

Gumball's pronouncement is met with a smile and a little round of applause from Kurloz. He likes the sound of this. But then he taps on the wall, and tilts his head. How is Gumball going to manage it?]

[And who should pass by but a certain half demon, carrying groceries on his way home.

He almost goes by completely, as his attention is actually on his SFC, but a glance up at the right second makes him stop and back track, watching Kurloz with a faintly amused smirk.]

Havin' fun?

[Kurloz makes an overexaggerated disappointed face, and flops into a seat on the ground, then taps at the "wall" separating him and Rin. Of course he's not having fun, he can't get out!]

[Rin thought it was just him messing around, but the look kind of says differently.]

... yer not like... actually stuck, are ya?

[He starts pushing at the wall. Slowly, he puts more effort into it, but with no luck. Yes, Rin, he's really stuck. Why else would he be doing this? Surely not just to mess with people.]

[what is happening ohgod]

Uh.

[going to... try and poke the "wall"...]

[And of course, Rin's hand meets no resistance whatsoever.]

... o... kay... you're stuck, but I can still do this.

[waving his hand back and forth through the "wall" for emphasis.]

[Kurloz pulls back in alarm as Rin waves his arm through the space. When he gets closer again, it's obvious why- the space where Rin waved his hand is now apparently dented inward, according to some strange rule of invisible boxes.]

... what the hell--...

[Seriously what the hell. Rin can barely deal with normal physics of the every day kind, invisible walls that dent are just downright baffling]

[Wow, messing with this guy is easy.

but he'll just keep the joke to himself for now. Instead, he points to Rin, then mimes making a punch. Since he can damage the box, surely he could punch a hole in it.]

[Isn't it?]

... what?! No way, I could seriously hurt you if I break that!

[That gets a raised eyebrow and a shrug, but he nods assent. Maybe this guy's stronger than he looks, or something.

Next, he mimics sawing something. They can try cutting it, if Rin thinks that's safer.]

[He was sending people to hospitals when he was seven. Yeah, he's stronger than he looks.]

... okay but with what. I don't got anythin' on me to cut it with.

[even his sword is at home right now]

[He shrugs. He doesn't have anything, either! But of the two of them, Rin can get something more easily. Kurloz points out in the direction of some of the nearby shops. Maybe Rin can get something from there.]

... oh! Right! Okay, I-I'll be right back!

[and off he goes

the poor stupid sap]

[At least he isn't likely to find out that Kurloz has been tricking him the whole time, because Kurloz stays in place, waiting for Rin to return with something sharp.]

[He returns, with a pair of scissors.]

Uhm. How 'bout this?

[He nods enthusiastically. That should work just fine. Then he steps back as far as he can in the box, to give Rin the space to work.]

Uhm... uhm okay... where should I start... ?

[because it would kind of suck if he accidentally went the wrong way and hurt Kurloz.]

[Kurloz apparently deliberates, before picking a far corner, and tracing it down to the ground, before he mimes pulling it open in a demonstration of what he wants Rin to do.]

Right. Yeah, I can do that.

[Rin nods as if needing to find some inner determination and resolve that yes, he can cut in to a fake maybe not fake imaginary box of some sort that's maybe maybe not keeping this guy locked in.

But soon enough he's moving over to that corner and sticking the scissors in the top to start cutting down as instructed.]

[The going should be easy, considering Rin's cutting through something that isn't there. Once Rin's finished cutting, Kurloz apparently starts to pry the box open from the cut Rin made.]

[Success! Rin helped some one! (Only not really)]

You need a hand outta there?

[Kurloz nods, and gestures for Rin to hold the edges of the tear open, even helpfully defining where they are as he does so.]

Okay, hang on, just lemmie...

[of course when he goes to tug on it, it's not like there's anything really giving him resistance, but he "pulls" anyway.]

[It takes a while of twisting and contorting, especially where things involve his horns, but eventually, Kurloz is able to pull his way out of the box. Once he's finally free, he makes a triumphant gesture and bows to Rin.]

[Yay! He's free!]

Awesome! That's better, yeah?

[Much better! Kurloz even holds up a hand for a high-five. Rin is the best and most gullible idiot he's come across all day.]

[He's really good at being gullible.]

Sweet!

[High five!]

[Washu had been out running her own errands when she came across the unfamiliar troll. She actually pauses to watch as he goes into a mime routine and smiles a little. When he's done, she claps in appreciation for the little show.]

Very impressive~.

[He starts to do a little mock bow, but apparently his "box" is too cramped to let him bow the full way, since he reels back a moment later, one hand to his face. It's hard to bow right when you hit your face on a "wall."]

[She chuckles softly as he tries to bow and "hits" a wall. Washu definitely likes you~.]

What other fun tricks can you do?

[He starts counting off on his fingers, then apparently loses track. So, obviously, a lot of things. He must be a master.

Then he glances around him with a sad face and taps on the box again. He's apparently not good enough to get himself out of this invisible trap.]

[She grins as she holds up a finger and starts miming drawing a door and opening it for him.]

[Kurloz watches, head tilted, as she starts drawing. It's only once he finishes that he starts to fiddle with the door, and after a few moments of apparent struggle (she couldn't have drawn a handle on his side of it, after all) he ducks out of the box, then gives her a deep bow. Thanks ever so much!]

[She bows back. Not a problem~. It's always fun to help a person in need of an exit.]

[That done, he closes the door of the box behind him, then shoves it over. Some other mime will probably trip over it eventually.]

[She can't help but snicker at his actions. Hopefully he doesn't forget where the box is and trip over it later himself.]
