This past week has been a train wreck, though Axel would go so far as to call that an understatement. The curse had been fine at the start, and he'd even contacted the entire dome about it all for the sake of some harmless entertainment, but as the days went on he found it more and more difficult to talk, namely with certain people. Of course, the unexpected arrival of a certain someone did nothing to alleviate his stress.

Thankfully that week is done and with it the curse. Still bothered by various thoughts, however, he leaves the apartment right at sundown... with three little ones following behind him: a yellow, red, and a light blue chocobo. He doesn't mind it. It fact, part of the reason why he's out anyway is that he can give them some fresh air. It's better than them camping in his hair all day.

Once at the park, he finds a quiet spot at the edge of the nearby pond to sit and watch the little birds frolic about, pecking at the ground and fluttering their tiny wings. But something's clearly distracting him. At one point he has to stand and just pace, because his body doesn't want to sit still. What's supposed to happen now, he wonders? With Sora and Roxas, Namine and Kairi and even Riku all here--

Now that Saix is here, what's going to happen?

It's the sound of peeping and rustling in the tall grass which snaps Axel out of his thoughts and makes him glance over in time to see that the red chocobo has climbed up on a rock and accidentally fallen into the water. Even as shallow as the water is, for a little guy, the pond might as well be an ocean.

"Hey," he calls out just as he hurries over to wade through the water and scoop up the bird before it hurts itself. If you happen to be wandering by, don't mind him. Or one of the baby chocobos coming over to say hello at your feet.

Aw, come on, Roxas. You can totally trust Axel. Totally.

He pulls his hand back then scoops up the yellow chocobo so he can plop it right on top of Roxas' head. Here, take this. It's dangerous to go alone. "Yeah, sure. But I doubt things will get that ugly." More like he doesn't want you getting involved.

Roxas ducks his head a little bit as the chick settles into his hair. Congratulations, Axel, you've discovered another way to mess it up.

"I hope they won't..."

Well, your hair certainly looks more like a nest than Axel's does, that's for sure. He has to wonder why the chocobos don't just settle in there more often. But whatever. At least they don't leave a mess behind.

"They won't," he says, though he's not looking at Roxas when he does. He can't guarantee anything, but he can try his best. "So, uh... Maybe we should think about names at some point then, huh?"

Changing the subject.

Maybe they like being high up, or think the spikes provide better cover. Who knows?

Roxas sighs, but goes along with the subject change.

"Yeah, definitely. I wanna have something to call these guys." He goes back to petting the red chocobo that's still on the ground near his feet. "How do you come up with names? Do people just- make up stuff that sounds neat?"

"You just kind of come up with them, yeah. Sometimes people like to go with generic things for pet names. Like... Spot. Or Fluffy. Things like that." As fluffy as these babies are, however, Axel doesn't think the name would stick very well. Or maybe it could if they said it enough.

Geez, this is harder than it should be. With a sigh he picks up the blue chocobo and brings it up to eye level.

"It's kinda why I thought about Isa for this one." Not only does it have the color and all, but it also seems to be a little calmer than the other two.

"They should have something nicer than that..." A name like 'Spot' doesn't seem very appropriate. "Maybe something like 'Sunset.'" He's not sure that exactly works as a name either, but it's no surprise the red chick is reminding him of someone, too.

He glances back up at Axel.

"...we could name it Isa, if you really want. I just thought- that might be a little weird for you."

"That's kind of a cute name." The yellow one looks like a Sunset, but, then again, so does the red one. Why is naming things so difficult. It really shouldn't be. After a moment of thought, Axel pokes the blue chocobo in the tummy then smirks.

"Fine. This one's Isa." It cheeps in response then nips at his finger.

Well, that's one taken care of, and maybe another.

"You think so?" Roxas tilts his head at the red chocobo and he's about to say something when a different thought occurs to him and he asks instead, "Are they boys or girls?" How do you tell?

You know, he never thought about that. Axel squints at them and realizes rather quickly that, no, he can't tell if they're boys or girls. He could obviously check the obvious way, but, uh, there's kind of a lot of feathers to go through. Well, at least Isa is kind of a girly name no matter what.

Axel shrugs. "I guess we can't figure out right now. But it doesn't really matter so long as we have something to call them."

True. As long as they aren't naming them obviously boyish or girlish names like Tom or Jane. Although he would have thought Lea was a girl's name so maybe sometimes it doesn't matter at all...

"Okay. This one can be Sunset then." He pets the red one on the top of its head, and then turns his attention to the yellow one. As much as he can with it nesting in his hair; he mostly just looks up in its general direction. "That just leaves this guy."

Lea is totally a girl's name, too. But don't tell Axel that or he'll kick you. Or something.

The red chocobo cheeps, probably liking its new name, then when Roxas turns to the yellow one it looks over and tilts its head. Hmmm. What will they name it, indeed. It kind of reminds Axel of a lot of things...

"Hm. You know what he reminds me of?" he asks with a laugh just as the chick hops around a couple of times. "A piece of popcorn." Even more because it bounces.

I legit thought Sora was a girl at first

Sora's pretty much a girl's name, too. Clearly they are both manlier as Nobodies.

"Popcorn--" Roxas repeats with a laugh. He can't see it, but he can feel it hopping around up there and the image fits. "Are you sure we should be naming him after food?"

/stares judgingly at

Roxas, we're Square Enix on the manly scale, ok.

"What's wrong with that?" It's not like you can really eat them... can you? Ok, no, Axel doesn't want to think about that.

what, no one else made that mistake?

Shh, let him pretend.

"Well... I guess it is kinda cute." They probably are edible, to someone. But Roxas doesn't want to think about that either.

"He even hops around like one." It peeps and leaps up high at that then tries to land on Roxas' shoulder. It misses an goes wobbling a bit through the air. Oops. They really need to work their wings a little more, don't they?

"So how's that sound? Sunset, Isa, and Popcorn." Wow. They just named some birds some pretty awesome things.

Roxas holds his hands out to catch Popcorn before he can turn that into an equally wobbly landing somewhere.

"Sounds good," he says, laughing at the sound of the three names together. "We're definitely not gonna get those mixed up."

Kweh! Have a peck and a nuzzle as a thank you, Roxas.

Axel picks up the other two then lets them leap up to settle in his hair all they want. He has no idea why they like it in there so much, but, hey. As long as they don't do anything funny in there, he's all good.

"So, uh... I'm hoping they won't need any collars or anything. I don't even know if they can wear 'em."

"I don't think you put collars on birds..." At least, he doesn't remember seeing them on the chocobos that got loose during the RPG curse. "They seem to do pretty well following us around anyway. Especially you."

"I guess that would look pretty ridiculous, huh." Putting a collar on a bird. Heh. For that last comment Axel raises a brow.

"You know, I honestly have no idea why they wanna follow me around so much. It's not like I've got anything they really want."

If he knew anything about birds, he might have said they thought Axel was their mom thanks to imprinting. Luckily, he doesn't know anything about birds.

"Maybe they just like you. I can't be the only one."

[flared]

Animals are so weird.

"What a bunch of little weirdos." That might not have been the nicest thing to say, and the chocobos show it, leaping up and cheeping at him frantically. Popcorn even gets all up in his face, flapping its wings and trying to peck at his nose.

Roxas can't help but laugh at their response, and no, he's not going to help call them off either.

"That doesn't include me, does it?" Careful, Axel, you might have one more little weirdo who needs to get on your case.

Axel's the worst mom. And by worst we mean the best.

He backs up to put space between himself and Popcorn who just keeps advancing even when it starts to wobble in the air. Axel holds his hand out so the chick can at least safely land without hurting itself. Then, with a raised brow over at Roxas, "No, it actually does include you."

At that, Roxas leans forward to flick Axel in the nose, hopefully succeeding where Popcorn failed.

"Y'know you're weirder than all of us."

Axel swats at Roxas' hand at that. "Where'd you get that idea from?"
