So things weren’t as dire as he’d initially thought.
If the people he’d spoken to upon arriving here were to be believed, that was. But then, appearances aside, weren’t they just like him? Trapped here by some strange entity? Perhaps, this little … setback had been a blessing rather than a curse. He had been about ready to explode back home. He needed breathing space, time away from Sam — or the thing that looked like Sam, to try and figure out his next move. Being stuck in another dimension, another world or wherever this place was, would keep him from doing something he would sorely regret later on. Perhaps, by taking a step back, he’d be able to see the whole picture.
Dean had wasted no time in finding himself a temporary place to stay and a change of clothing. He’d taken a closer look at the map and welcome brochure, finding himself surprised at what Vatheon had to offer. It was vastly different from the Croat infested world Zach had dropped him in a few years back. Aside from what he’d heard from the other residents, that in itself was a clear indication that maybe the douche patrol had very little to do with his being here. After all, there were a ton of other nasties out there with enough juice to send his ass pretty much anywhere.
It didn’t take Dean long to reach the Phanga neighbourhood. He did a quick scope of the place, the hunting knife and Beretta hidden safely in his pocket, providing him with the usual sense of comfort. As pleasant as his host seemed — as pleasant as anyone seemed in this place — he really couldn’t afford to take any chances.
Satisfied, he sauntered up to the door of Hive 2 and knocked, smile fixed firmly in place.

"Oh, oh, you're just in time! I just put the kettle on to make tea! Come in!" Equius probably wouldn't approve of her up and inviting strangers to her place, but then again Equius didn't live with her and couldn't tell her what to do in her own hive, heehee. Besides, Dean had seemed in need of a bit of cheering up, and Nepeta remembers how much she appreciated people doing nice things for her back when she'd arrived all shaken up nearly exactly a year ago now. It seems only right to pass it on now.

Dean nods in thanks, stepping inside, discreetly scanning the place over for the usual signs of foul play. Finding nothing upon first glance, he allows himself to lower his guard ever so slightly.
"Nice place, you got here." Although he wouldn't be making his place a 'home' anytime soon — come on, the idea was ludicrous — Dean's words were sincere. "Thanks again, for the invite. I really appreciate it."
After all, she wasn't just providing him with food and company, she was keeping him from driving himself crazy. If it hadn't been for Nepeta's generous offer, he'd be holed up in some bar and obsessing about Sam while drinking himself into an oblivion.

She leads him to the kitchen, taking a few detours around waist-high piles of plush toys. "Oh, no no, thank you for coming! I'm really glad you said yes, I love making new friends! Here, have a seat! Do you like tea? Or I can make hot chocolate!"
She busies herself at the counter, getting mugs out of the cupboard as well as cookie and cake tins, and a giant bowl of what looks like chocolate pudding from the fridge.

"Man, you weren't kidding. You've got enough enthusiasm to become Santa's number one elf or something." Dean replied, glancing at the tinsel and fairy lights. He'll give her a chance, it was the least he could do for the hospitality she'd shown him. "Tea's fine."
Dean liked to think of himself as a good judge of character and try as he might, he couldn't sense anything remotely malicious about Nepeta. She was a little different sure, but she seemed like a good person. Of course, that wariness never truly went away. Not here, not even back at home.
"You shouldn't have gone to all this trouble though." Dean wastes no time in picking up a spoon from the table and digging into the chocolatey goodness. He was unaccustomed to being fussed over like this. And it was strange because he couldn't help feeling a strange sense of guilt. "You made this? It's friggin' awesome!"

Either way she doesn't notice at all that he minds the phrase, too busy preparing a strong pot of tea for both of them to share and carrying it over to the table in gloved hands. "Help yourself! There's cream to go in it or milk if you prefer, and sugar or honey!"
After that she seems focused on making her own cup of tea, heaping in enough sugar that it's surprising there's any room left for the tea at all. It's obvious where at least part of her seemingly endless supply of energy comes from.
"Oh, no, that's okay! I always have lots of things to eat here. Me and Tavros have tea parties all the time, and invite friends over whenever we can." Her cheeks suddenly turn a bright green as she blushes at the compliment. "You really really like it?? Dadleer showed me how to make it! Usually he'll only teach me healthy recipes but I made kitty eyes at him to teach me some sweet ones for Christmas and after a while it worked!"

Opening a cake tin, Dean places a slice on his plate and does the same for Nepeta. Although they hardly knew each other, it all felt surprisingly comfortable. "You bet," he replies, through a mouthful of cake. "Best tea party, I've ever been to."
Not that he'd been to any. Not that he was a tea party sort of person to begin with. But this was ... kinda nice.
"You really like it here, don't you?" Try as he might, he still couldn't get over the fact that some of these people were happy just being here. Despite being told that leaving wasn't really a feasible option, all of Dean's instincts were telling him to find a way back to his own world as soon as possible.
slkdjsa dw never sent me this notif, I am so sorry!
"I'm glad you're having fun! I love hosting tea parties. When I was little I'd have them with Pounce all the time, even if she couldn't use a teacup."
She stuffs her mouth with cake, chewing through it before replying to him, for once remembering her manners. "Oh, yes, yes, I do! All the people I care about the most are here, and there's hardly any fighting, and even if it's under the sea it's pretty nice down here! I like my hive a lot too and I get to share it with Tavros, and everyone else is really close if I want to visit! Back home we were all over the place, we could only chat online if we wanted to talk." She buries her face in her cup of tea for a moment, drinking down a gulp of it. "And I can't really go back home anyway, even if I wanted to."
no worries! ♥
Come to think of it, that could be said about a large number of people he'd spoken to so far. Maybe it was more down to quietly dealing with the situation and making the most of things rather than giving up, like Dean had first assumed. Her last words do have a sobering effect, however. Look at it as positively as you want, but there's no changing the fact that they were all stuck here.
"I'm glad you're happy here." Dean dunks a biscuit into his cup, before devouring the whole thing. "Life's too short, y'know?"
♥!
Thinking about it is always sobering, even if she's mostly come to terms with it now, and no amount of sugar can help with the small, tired sigh she lets out, staring at the remainders of cake that she doesn't quite feel like any more.
"I'm glad I am too, I didn't think I would be, not at first." A small frown. "Oh, I know. I know. I died back home," she explains, wondering if he'll believe her. People didn't, sometimes. "So I make sure to make the very best of all the time I get here."
