Kenphie Times

Maybe it was the snow, or all the Christmas decorations, but there was something triggering all sorts of memories for Selphie that she wasn't really understanding. She'd said some time ago that she'd visit Kenshin but, between getting used to the place again, curses, friends leaving, friends in comas, Selphie hadn't quite go round to doing that yet. And now she felt really, really bad about it. Whatever the reasons, Selphie just had to go and visit Kenshin, invite or no invite.

It's cold out, and it's snowing, but Selphie trudges her way to Kenshin's house, unaware that she's automatically making the way there without thinking of directions. Still, wrapped up in a big red duffle coat, with a matching scarf and all, Selphie knocked at the door, hoping that he'd hear with the muffled noise her gloved hand made against the door. She glanced around her at the snow before taking a step back, not really sure what to expect now.

"Oh..." Selphie tilted her head back to look up at the ceiling where she guessed her room was, "And you didn't get anyone else to move in with you?" She stared at the ceiling a moment more before looking back at Kenshin, "Weren't you lonely then when I went home?"

"At times," Kenshin confessed. Truthfully, most people were afraid of him because of his reputation. Then there were others who just thought he was odd. So he mostly stayed by himself. "Certainly nothing I cannot handle."

Selphie sighed a little and turned towards him. She lowered her eyes, looking at his feet, before looking up at his face again. "I'm sorry... that I just left... I didn't mean to, you know..."

Kenshin drew near, placing a tender hand on her shoulder. "Selphie, I do not blame you at all. This place pulls the residents in many directions without notice."

Selphie startled a little as he touched her shoulder, a rush of affection seeming to come from nowhere. She blushed a little, but smiled up at him, nodding her head, "That's really very good of you to think about it this way. But still, I hope you weren't too lonely on your own.."

"Moses-kun kept me company," he replied. The cat mewed in response, almost as if agreeing with him.

His words were true, after all. Kenshin was a rather solitary lord, preferring to keep only his ninja at his side. Of course, he had generals and his rivalry with Shingen, but he did tend to keep to himself quite a bit.

Selphie smiled fondly at the cat before looking back at Kenshin. Her eyes narrowed ever-so-slightly, as if she couldn't believe that just one cat would be enough. But Kenshin looked composed and content, so she could only believe that he was being honest about not being too lonely. So, at last, she nodded and smiled, "Well, that's good then. I'm glad."

Kenshin nodded. "Let's have some tea," he offered, motioning towards the table. The couch had been pushed back, making room for sitting on the floor. There were pillows next to the table for sitting.

"Oh, sure!" Selphie smiled and looked down at the table with the little cushions all around it. This was a little bit weird, but Selphie was always comfortable sitting on the floor. "Want me to help?"

"If you wish." It was tradition to cater to the guest, but Selphie kind of wasn't guest category anymore. It wouldn't be rude to let her help if she wanted. the kitchen wasn't any different than before, save a few shoots of bamboo in small planters on the window sill.

And without even thinking about it, Selphie was making her way into the kitchen. She noticed the bamboo with a small smile, but otherwise just set about making tea like she'd never left, though that hadn't quite processed in her brain yet.

"Nice sticks." The bamboo, obviously, sticks.

"Bamboo," he corrected her. "They welcome in the good spirits for the new year."

"Oh..! Bamboo!"

Selphie smiled and turned to Kenshin, holding out some tea. "That sounds like a nice idea. I love the new year! I can't wait - I love the fireworks the best."
