[ So, you may have been walking along and minding your own business. You may have been settling down for a light snack, shopping for your dinner, taking a nap. But whatever you were doing, something will disturb it. Something that sounds like a very unearthly outcry. Something that sounds kind of like... ]

VRISKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

[ Maybe it's Mephisto's fault for showing up at the troll's place unannounced. His intentions were pure: just to invite her for tea, really. But surprise of all surprises, she isn't around and she isn't likely to return. If one would decide to pop in and see what the commotion is about though, you would be treated to the sight of Mephisto swatting away a pile of spiders and trying to get to what seems to be his True Cross pin away from the things. All this while muttering obscenities under his breath that seem to flit from English to Japanese to German to something not entirely human.

[Oh. That was a loud scream. Vriska? Wasn't that that troll John is friends with? Jade will inspect and see--

Spiders! Okay. That's about the best burglar deterrent she's seen.

But still, they were just minding their own business and are probably someone's pets, so hi Mephisto she'll just gently move those spiders away from swatting hands with space magic and call in.]

[ But there's a pause from that right as the spiders are drawn away. He straightens up, tucking his cane back under his arm before glancing back up at Jade. ]

That sicced the spiders on you or put them somewhere else? [That was a rhetorical question, sort of, so she'll go ahead and answer:] I put the spiders somewhere else so you guys will not hurt each other, they might not bother you again if you leave them alone but I would suggest leaving their territory with haste.

I'm quite aware of who these spiders belong to, thank you very much.

[ He's still prodding at the pile of clothes the spiders were on with the tip of his cane and using it every now and then to sort through the pile. ]

It just so happens that the former resident of this unsightly hole had something of mine. Now that she appears to have been sent home for good, I only want to get what's mine back.

[ Small grumbling though. ]

[This man seems quite ruffled, though, so she'll float on in and start carefully upturning things herself (with magic again, naturally).]

[John was on his way back home from work when a certain cry stopped him dead in his tracks. Could that possibly mean...]

[He brightens immediately, changing course and shooting off in the direction of the shout. Because surely it means that Vriska is awake again! Except...no it's just some dude being attacked by spiders.]

Hehe, man it looks like she got you good! [Because he got stuck in some kind of prank, right? Bucket over the door full of spiders-- oh wait, no it wouldn't be a bucket because...yeah. Reasons.]

[ He really doesn't want to poke around much more than was necessary but then there was this kindly thing helping him out. So... why not let her do the work? He'll just take a step back and subtly lift things here and there. ]

A small pin. Silver in color with red and blue insets. Vriska had decided to take it during our first meeting for father knows what reason.

[ It's probably in the clothes pile which he really doesn't want to touch. ]

[ It isn't as much being attacked as it is an all out mutual war between them. The spiders are skittering away and Mephisto seems more interested in brushing them off and away just to continue with his search. But the things are incessant and everywhere. Demon he may be, he doesn't take kindly to spiders in his everything. ]

I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news but she isn't here. If my suspicions are correct, she isn't likely coming back.

[ No. No buckets. Good god no. ]

[That shuts John up real quick, his smile immediately fading entirely.]

[Here hold on let him just...kinda gently blow these spiders away real quick. The less distractions, the better.]

[All right, so she can add shaking out the clothes to her list of "awesome methods of searching."

The "father" comment though makes her look at him, eyebrows raised and ears twitching.]

Trolls have a tendency to be horrible for no good reason. What do you mean by "father" though?

[ He's relieved for the spiders being moved off. Though he's tempted to continue his search, this reaction is rather interesting. ]

I'd take it Vriska was an acquaintance of yours? You wouldn't have seen a silver pin about her person, would you?

[ A small wrinkle of his brow in disgust. ]

[ Because he's met Kanaya and Eridan and they weren't half as poisonous as Vriska. ]

You'll have to pardon me. Some verbal ticks I've acquired haven't disappeared at all. Call it a force of habit, referring to my father in such ways.

[She's about to ask who his father even is that warrants such "verbal tics" when something shiny falls out of a discarded pair of pants, which Jade snatches up before it hits the ground. Not that she's forgotten about the father subject, oh no, it's just more polite to give back what he was looking for.]

[John can't help but look a little irritated. He's not sure what a dummkoff is, but he's pretty sure it's not a nice thing to call someone. And he is equally sure that Vriska is not one.]

[ And then there's relief from having found his pin in perfect condition. There isn't any sentimental value connected to it, Gehenna no. Rather, it's the principle of the thing. You don't steal from Mephisto and expect him not to get it back somehow.

As someone who has come and gone and come again from this place twice now, chances are that it hasn't vanished with her. Especially since it didn't belong to her. It's likely wherever she left it. Or if she had it on her person it might be wherever she was when she vanished.

I would then ask if you happen to know a certain half demon named Rin Okumura, because he has mentioned a man named "Mephisto" as being a relation of his. Though only a halfsies relation.

And even if the Faust and Mephistopheles thing is only a mere coincidence and you also happen to be from a world where things considered fiction are a reality, I'm part dog. I honestly cannot judge the validity of things in other worlds.

I suppose it can't be helped. Yes, Rin Okumura is indeed my half brother. However, I doubt anything he's said could be flattering to my person. He does tend to exaggerate sometimes...

The only thing he said about any demon brothers was that Amaimon causes trouble when he's bored. And blah blah blah I had to tell him to stop being a hero, you know, you must know.

So no, I do not have any preexisting assumptions about any Johann Faust or Mephisto.

No idea. It wasn't something I had any conscious control over. If it was, I wouldn't have left in the first place. Especially not for a whole year.

I'm afraid that's also true. Amaimon does tend to lean toward the destructive if not distracted well enough. It just so happens his favorite toy is our youngest brother.

Of course there is! And that aspect happens to belong to my best friend, Dave Strider--the Knight of Time. There is a troll with that aspect as well, she's the Maid of Time, though it seems that her role has changed to a more...death-oriented one?

[Then again time and death would be rather close partners, so she just shrugs.]

There are twelve aspects in total, one of which is given to an individual player of the game along with a role. Besides me, there is another Space player in Vatheon, Kanaya Maryam, though she never made the ascent to a fully realized Sylph of Space. If you were associated with Vriska, I must assume that you know her as well. ...And if you stuck around Vriska long enough, I am sure that she bragged about being the Thief of Light at some point.

[She's already in explainy witch mode, she may as well exposit everything. There's a pause as her ears flatten against her head and she huffs.]

I suppose it's good that I met you. I at least know who to find if I am forced to shrink your brother and put him in a jar. Rin might not want to deal with him even in tiny mode.

[ all this time, he listens in silence with that same strange interested smile on his lips. The bit about the game doesn't escape him at all and neither do the names and titles and all these things that Jade's passing him. Information is gold, it really is.

Well mostly it's...normal I guess you could say. Less death and shit isn't hitting the fan every time you turn around. A day lasts a day as opposed to feeling like it drags on for years at a time. The lack of a teleporting dog-god who will sooner stab you than greet you is nice too.

Home wasn't hell or anything but it was on its way there in a handbasket, I guess you could say. Vriska and the trolls had it just as bad, if not worse than we did.

[Though she supposes that's how the more intelligent ones would act around humans to gain their trust.]

Can I ask you something? If you know Rin and therefore come from his world, do you know anything about the school he goes to? You know, the exorcist one?
