[Hubert wasn't entirely convinced sparring was going to help him take his mind off everything, but it couldn't hurt really. He wasn't sure what would come of it either, but he wasn't about to turn down a perfectly good chance to keep his skills in peak condition.

So he waited on the island, wearily eying the mess that still remained from the Yami battle and the strange underground lab it had uncovered. It made him strangely uncomfortable, but damned if he couldn't figure out why.]

Yeah, that seems to happen on adventures. Anyway, what should we do now?

I wasn't expecting to cut it so short... but I also wasn't expecting to get blasted like that.

[Hubert lets out a sigh at that. Yup. Still frustrated.]

Well we could keep sparing if you want or maybe find something else to help ya.

I'm not sure sparring will really help. It seems my focus is utterly shot no matter how hard I try...

Then we just need to find you something that doesn't need focus.

[Hubert lets out a snort at that.]

I fear that may be impossible.

[At least he has enough humility to admit it?]

Nothing is impossible. I can think of a few things. Video games, drinking alcohol, and getting laid, for example.

[Don't mind Hubert coughing awkwardly over here.]

I don't do it to be 'manly.' I...just learned to think about it more casually while I've been here. That's all.

... just while you've been here? That seems a bit backwards.

Well...I was kind of a virgin when I got here. And a friend of mine taught me all about casual sex, as strange as that sounds.

Well I suppose it does have it's good points. I'm no stranger to it myself... I've just never appreciated how the cadets would sling around talk of it as if it were something to boast about.

Yeah. I'm not into the whole boasting thing about it. Just seems stupid. Doesn't mean I don't like it though. Maybe that's what you need. A casual hookup.

... Zelos suggested something along those lines. Even if I was willing, it's not as if I've made a great deal of friends that aren't the ones from my world here.

[He sighs, shifting a bit and finally putting his blades back in his jacket.]

And I'm not about to walk up to the first person I meet and ask for such a thing.

[Ratchet nods. He can understand that. But then a thought comes to his mind. There was just one snag.]

It doesn't have to be someone you're really close with. Might help if you aren't that close. Plus, depends on what kind of people you like. You know, boys vs girls and all that.

[Hubert lets out a quiet snort at that.]

Between you, me and the sand... I'm actually comfortable with either. It comes from being in the military at such a young age, I suppose. I was exposed to far more than any of my friends or even my brother is aware of.

[Obviously didn't make him less of a prude, outwardly, but personality and behavior behind closed doors can be two completely different sides of a coin.]

And it'll stay between you, the sand, and I. [The Lombax chuckles and looks at his glove in a nonchalant kind of way.]

Then what if someone offered to sleep with you so you don't have to go and ask?

[Hubert blinks a few times. He's obviously not catching on to what Ratchet is insinuating.]

I suppose it would be worth taking them up on their request, seeing as nothing else seems to be helping me move on.

[Okay, subtlety isn't working here. Time for the direct approached.]

Then how about we go back to my place and we give it a go?

[Don't mind that sputtering, Ratchet. He's just a little shocked is all.]

[He's not trying to be rude, but... well... different species and all that.]

[He doesn't take offense...too much. He chuckles a bit and shrugs.]

I know, seems strange. But it might help ya relax some. And the whole species thing, trust me, I'm pretty sure everything almost looks the same.

[Hubert makes a face, somewhere between unsure and thoughtful, moving his glasses up again as he lets out a breath.]

... I suppose that's a point that's difficult to argue with...
