Warning: Contains spoilers for the Legend of Korra finale, if it still matters to anyone.
[It hasn't been long since they arrived, not yet a full week, but it's been enough. The span have days has allowed time for them to settle in, and to let everything else sink in.]
[The search for Naga has turned up empty. First Korra searched Vatheon itself, then the forest quadrant, then the island proper, with no results in any location. No one she described her polar bear dog to has seen her, or sent back messages saying they've found her. Her hope lies in what one person told her, that Naga might show up later on her own, but she's accepted that she's not here presently.]
[Other things have been fine enough, sure. They didn't just find an apartment, but one with a gym in the building! Local restaurants and takeout are pretty good, with this "pizza" thing being a surprisingly good discovery. Most everything is free. Korra herself has even picked up some new clothes in the meanwhile, a necessity with the single outfit she arrived in; the local styles aren't so bad, though she's still getting used to them.]
[But the rest isn't so great. Apart from Bolin (and Pabu, of course), the only other person here from their world is Tahno. All their other friends, family, mentors, and teammates are gone. Naga's absence has hit her hard, when for so long she's been her best friend. To even sleep without her pet in the same room - though who knows how she'd get up the stairs and inside even if she were here - has been strange, lonely, and difficult. Not that it's easy to begin with. Troubled dreams come often in what sleep she gets, preying to worries and recent losses.]
[Foremost among those losses is her bending. It's not that she's lost everything! Logically she knows that, as she has to remind herself now and then. She has her airbending after having strained to accomplish it for so long. She has a friend and his pet. Even Tahno's presence here is better than his absence when so much else is missing. But she's also not the Avatar anymore, which is the thought that plagues her most.]
[It's not for lack of trying, either. Since her arrival she has made frequent trips outdoors and spent a portion of each day going through old forms, remembering what she's learned, and trying to manipulate the elements as she once did so easily. No fire spouts from her fingertips; no earth rises beneath her feet; no water flows through her will. Instead she's been left to practice airbending, teacherless and on her own.]
[She's also turned to meditating. That task is what has her absorbed now as she sits up on the island's beach, which has become one of her favorite places. Here there are less people, usually, and for all she's lost her waterbending, the sound of the waves helps ease her. Her teachers always criticized her inattention to spirituality. If she could work on that and improve, maybe Aang would show her something to help her get through this... but so far, there's been nothing.]
[Eventually she opens her eyes, looks out to the sea, and sighs. Somewhere in her mind, in a more reasonable part of herself, she knows it's not as bad as it could be. It's just hard when she feels so powerless, and has lost so much of the life and identity she had before.]
