[ This whole - everything is free and you don't need a job - thing has been throwing William off quite a bit. All this sudden free time! And no restrictions regarding prices! Where does William even start?

Better turn to someone for advice. Someone that isn't one of the three people here who William knows from home, because really, isn't William supposed to enjoy this impromptu vacation? So instead, he contacted Tatsumi, who'd insisted William hit him up should he have any questions.

So now William's standing in the main plaza, eying that giant coral suspiciously, and waiting for Tatsumi to arrive. ]

[Tatsumi, as usual, arrives just in time at the main plaza. He's not disappointed to see William is already there. This is all very good. He rushes a bit that last bit of the way, because it's not polite to keep someone waiting.]

Good afternoon, Spear-san. I hope you weren't waiting here since a long time.

[ William nods a greeting, adjusting his glasses as he does. ]

Not at all. I only just arrived, myself.

[ Ah, so refreshing to meet someone punctual! ]

[He would agree on that one.]

That's perfect then. Are you settling in well?

As well as I can, I suppose. I am not at all used to having such an abundance of free time.

[He sighs. Yes, the free time issue.]

It is refreshing at first, but after the first few days it gets annoying. But while it is not necessary to work for money, there are jobs available.

I suppose someone needs to be in charge of all the shops and such. Perhaps I will look into a job, if only to occupy my time.

[ Still won't be nearly as demanding as being a reaper. ]

Indeed, that is what most people do as a job. You could also have a position at Vatheon Academy. I teach Economics there on Saturday mornings. The rest of the time, I do logistics work for the defense force.

That is a respectable job. I assume there is a job listing somewhere?

I'm not exactly sure. I got my jobs by asking around.

Perhaps I will ask on the network, then.

[ William glances around the square, observing the little shops and cafés. ]

Would there happen to be a decent tea room in this city?

What kind of job would you prefer to do?

There are some in the middle district. Most likely you will find at least one of everything there. I assume you're looking for an English-style tea room?

Any type of desk work would be fine. And I would greatly prefer a set schedule with as little overtime as possible.

Ah, yes, I should have specified.

I suppose there are a few office jobs around. And I haven't heard anyone complaining about overtime until now.

[He nods and guides William to the middle district.]

Good. It was inevitable back home.

[ He follows along, trying to make a mental note of certain shops along the way. ]

I hope the job you get here won't have it.

[They stop at an English-looking tea shop.] Would this suit your wishes, Spears-san?

Hopefully.

Yes. This looks like something from home.

[ He approaches the front door, opening it for the two of them to venture inside. William chooses a table by some other unoccupied tables. ]

[Tatsumi follows William, and sits with him at the table he chooses.]

It looks and smells nice.

Yes, it is familiar. Certainly more comforting than the other things I have found here from home.

If what your employee told me is right, you both come from a different era altogether.

Excuse me? A different era? He is probably just being dramatic for no reason.

[Chuckles. Grell? Dramatic? No way that could ever happen!]

Yes, most likely. I guess this place is suited to meet some of the needs and likes of different people.

In what way? Honestly, being here is not helping me, in the least.

[Shrugs.]

Just different kinds of housing and types of stores in general.

So, a break, in a sense.

[ William sighs. As much as he needs this break, it's almost as though he simply doesn't know how to stop and take a breather. ]

[Well, for Tatsumi it's quite a welcome break. Especially from spending money. But between his job for the Defense Force, trying to figure out this work, and taking care of two puppies at home, he has his plate full.]

[ William sips at the tea the waitress just placed in front of him. ]

I am curious how reapers from your world process souls. If you would not mind indulging me.

[Tatsumi sips at his. The tea is good, all is well for now.]

We have a list of people who are supposed to arrive to the Meifu, I mean, the Underworld. We go to Earth go guide the souls of these persons to their proper places. Sometimes we must make some of these souls aware that they are no longer living, and that they must rest in peace. Not to mention dealing with the involvement of humans in affairs of the death. Or with demons and spirits.

Fairly standard procedure, then.

[ William adds a bit more sugar to his tea and stirs it thoughtfully. ]

[He nods and drinks his tea just as it is.]

Indeed. How is it in your world? Anything different?

Slightly. We do not escort souls to their place after death. We merely reap them, decide if they should die or continue in life, and file them accordingly.

[Nods.]

It's possible your department processes more souls than ours. Your way to do things is much faster. Do you work individually or in groups?

My section has five reapers, myself included. Whether we work in groups or not depends on the amount of souls needing to be reaped in a particular assignment.

Though, honestly, five agents is not nearly enough, in my opinion. But, management has yet to provide me with more.

Understandable. We have 2 reapers per section, who are required to work as a pair. No reaper may operate alone. Simply precautionary measure to avoid certain things. Like having any reaper getting attatxhed to a human. When needed, shinigami from other sections may help with a certain situation.

[ Normally, Sundays would be his days off. Unfortunately with Vatheon being the days-off-he-didn't-really-ask-for, work was a welcome distraction. However, he allowed himself later hours on Sundays and longer lunch breaks as a matter of principle.

So here he was, stepping out of the cafe after his lunch. ]

Tatsumi-san. I wasn't aware you had a brother.

[Tatsumi frowns as the doctor approaches them. Just about the last person he wanted to see. At least Tsuzuki is safe at home. Or somewhere away from the doctor.]

Muraki-sensei. Unfortunately, we aren't brothers.

[Unfortunately for Tatsumi and himself, Asato just appears on the plaza, running after Cinnamon. The naughty puppy decided to take a walk on his own, making his master chasing him all around the city.]

Cinnamon, come back here !

[ Look's like William's found Cinnamon, as the runaway pup is currently licking at his once shiny, black dress shoes.

William huffs loudly, stepping back from the dog. ]

Honestly, I just shined these this morning.

Of course. I apologize for the easily made mistake.

[ There's a small smile though, one that grows slightly more intrigued the minute Tsuzuki enters the picture. And a sigh. ]

I suppose it wouldn't be proper to leave it at this. May I interest you gentlemen in some coffee? After all your... friend seems to be rather new, Tatsumi-san.

[Is there a polite way to refuse? He doesn't want to be rude in front of William. He keeps close to Tsuzuki, just in case.]

William, what do you say?

[Asato picks Cinnamon up, offering an apologetic smile to William.] I... I am sorry, Sir..

[He then carefully moves closer to Tatsumi and looks at Muraki from over his friend's shoulder.] Hi, Muraki...

It is fine.

[ Though he still sounds slightly irritated. ]

I do not mind, if that is what the rest of you would like to do.

[Looks at Tsuzuki.] what would you like to eat?

[Then looks at Muraki.] Or what do you suggest?

[ Even better than he considered this. There's a smile and a nod directed back at Tsuzuki however before he turns his attention back. ]

The cafe, of course, if you haven't gone? They have the best apple pie the city has to offer.

[ Said, of course, for his beloved's consideration. ]

[Oh no Muraki, don't do that ! Leave the apple pies out of this.]

I... Maybe just for a moment... ? [With Tatsumi and... err... William around, things should be ok.]

[ William simply nods, adjusting his glasses, and follows along to the cafe. ]

[Sighs and follows Muraki. Who would have thought the day would come when he would have coffee with the doctor?]

[ See? He can be a total gentleman if you let him, really. But anyway, totally leading them back to the cafe and asking for a table for four.

He's heard about William from Grell, actually. Asked a few questions, gotten a few details... so he's curious. But letting his curiosity show in the presence of Tatsumi and Tsuzuki? Not exactly a good idea. ]

Now then. I believe an introduction is in order?

[And unfortunately, Asato ends up face to Muraki. Still better than beside him though.]
