You've got a friend in me

Who: Sora and Roxas

Late the previous night, Sora had sent out a message specifically to Roxas. All it said was, Meet me at the elevator at 1030 and didn't provide much of an explanation after that.

It was now 10:28 and that's exactly where Sora was waiting. He'd only managed to go up the island once with Kairi. It had been nice knowing a place like this existed, though there really wasn't much else they could do being stuck in a bubble as they were. Still it was just another semblance of home that Sora enjoyed, and he wanted to share it with Roxas. He'd have asked others to come too, but he wanted some time alone with his other. For almost anyone else, he would see them once he returned home, but for him and Roxas it was different.

Sora tapped his foot a bit as he waited.

Roxas hadn't spent much time with his Other since they'd been here. The idea of it was still pretty strange to him. For a long time Sora had just been that boy he dreamt about, and for a while Sora had been who he was. They'd never existed side-by-side.

But none of that meant he didn't want to hang out. So when he got the brief invitation, he smiled. And the following day at 10:30 (...or maybe a few minutes late), he arrived at the elevator to find his Other waiting.

"Hey, Sora."

"Hey!" Sora's face instantly lit up into a bright smile as he saw Roxas approaching. He reached down and picked up a small bag that had a few things for their trip shoved into it. If there was one thing Sora was good at it was packing.

"You ready?"

Roxas glanced at the bag before returning his gaze to Sora's face, a subtler smile on his own.

"I guess so. You didn't exactly tell me what you've got planned."

Sora shrugged. Planned was a very lose term in this case. "I just thought we could hang out." He took a step back towards the elevator and gestured for Roxas to follow.

"Come on! The islands this way!" The grin stayed on his face as he stepped into the elevator and held it open for Roxas to step through.

Loose term, maybe, but Roxas still suspected Sora had one or two ideas. But, he just shrugged and stepped into the elevator after him. It would just have to be a surprise.

"I have been up there, you know." Just a few times. Somehow it felt sort of like home to him, too.

"Oh." Okay well Sora's only a little bummed that this isn't some big surprise to Roxas, but at least they're spending time together!

"I've only been up there once with Kai.." Sora paused for a beat before continuing. "It's pretty neat! It's not home, but it's not too bad."

Roxas glances at him in that pause and for a moment debates saying anything.

"Kairi's waiting for you back home now, huh?"

Sora looked down at his feet as the elevator started moving up towards the island. "Yeah." He was obviously bummed out by that. He hadn't had a lot of time with Kairi before she left again, but that was the way of Sora's life lately.

Roxas gave him a light nudge. "Just a matter of time before you see her again, right? You'll get home sooner or later."

"Yeah, you're right!" He smiled over at Roxas, thankfully the other was there at least. "Besides, maybe she'll end up here again? I've been here a few times so who knows!" At least there was some sort of silver lining to look forward to.

"You, too, huh?" Roxas shook his head a bit. He knew that he'd been here at least once before himself, and so had Axel. "Maybe she will; this place seems to like us well enough."

Sora laughed again, and his smile widened. "You can say that again! I just wish I could actually remember when I was here last!"

Honestly Sora hated that he'd forgotten some of his friends from here.

"Yeah..." Roxas didn't like that he'd forgotten about being here either, but so far the only friend he'd met whom he'd forgotten was Xion, and she was from home. Just forgetting a place didn't seem so bad compared to that.

He stepped off the elevator as it reached the top, into a surprisingly chilly day. Well, at least the view would be the same..

"Whoa." Sora shivered a bit as they stepped out onto the beach. He was surprised too by the chill, but it wasn't too bad. Still it put a small damper on some of his plans. "I wonder why it's chilly up here."

He looked around, and while there was a chill to the air it was still a nice day.

"I dunno," Roxas said, walking a short ways from the elevator to feel the air. "It's almost summer, isn't it?"

Sticking his hands in his pockets, he turned back to Sora questioningly. This was his idea, after all. And he totally did have plans.

"Yeah, I thought it was." He frowned a little. "I guess this means we can't go swimming."

They could still walk in the surf though. It'd be nice to feel the waves and sand in between his toes.

"Not unless you wanna freeze your butt off," Roxas said, glancing down towards the water. He was a little disappointed, too; he didn't think he'd ever really gone swimming.

"Maybe we can make it once it get's warmer!" For now though Sora was working on taking off his shoes and socks.

Once that was done, he laid them off to the side. It never seemed as if anyone was really up here, so their stuff should be fine on it's own.

He did stop however to pull something out of his bag with his back to Roxas.

"I did find these though." He pulled out two popsicles that had been wrapped a few seconds ago. "Ta da! Sea-salt ice cream!"

It took Roxas a moment to understand what Sora was doing that for, and then he followed suit. He set his shoes aside and looked up just in time to see Sora turn around with the ice cream.

"You..." Almost cautiously, he reached out to take one of them.

"How did you know about the ice cream?"

"Riku," Sora said grinning and heading off into the surf. He shivered a bit as the cold water touched his feet. "He was trying to tell me about you."

"He'd given us a box with a picture of you and your friends. There was a bar of this stuff inside."

He placed it into his mouth and bit off the smallest amount to let the salty sweet ice cream melt over his tongue. "Something just told me you'd like it too." He turned back to Roxas and grinned brightly.

"Riku again..." A slight frown crossed his face at that, but then he shook his head.

A photo? It must have been the one of him with Hayner and the others...

"Axel and me used to have it all the time," he said, looking at the bar for a moment longer before sticking it in his mouth.

Sora's smile softened a bit at the expression that had passed on Roxas's face. He knew the two of them weren't exactly close. Not after what Riku did to get Roxas close to Sora again. He didn't push the topic though.

"You and Axel did?" The smile brightened just a bit. "You two were really close huh?"

"Still are, I hope," he said, smiling a little now as he took the ice cream out of his mouth. "We are best friends, you know."

Sure, a lot had happened between them back home, but that wasn't supposed to matter with friends. He didn't want it to matter.

"I bet you still are." Sora looked back out to the sea. "Axel doesn't seem like the kind of guy who'd hold a grudge against a friend."

Of course, Sora could be wrong, but Axel had decided to help him in his last moments. Something like that meant a lot to the keyblade wielder.

Sora gestured over to Roxas. "Come on, let's walk." He headed off down the beach, letting the waves lap over his feet.

No, Axel was glad to have him here; he'd said so. But after that nightmare, Roxas couldn't help wondering if maybe he just didn't know he was angry.

He kept that part to himself, though, as he followed Sora down to the beach.

"I don't know about that. He got me back pretty good for tickling him."
