♥ ☽ missing: starfish
Who: Yukari and Minato
Where: Starting off at the Volo Dorms, then to "Somarium"/new island city
When: After the island setting changes, and after their SFCs change as well
Style: [action?]
Status: Closed
[Well, this is certainly odd.
Yukari's grown so used to the shape of the SFC that a normal phone looks so weird to her; and it doesn't help that she can't FIND her SFC today, either. It's a bit concerning, but closer inspection of this new phone reveals that the contact list and everything else is there, as it should be.
...Had the locals simply gotten bored with it?]
Hmm...
[What better way to find out than to try it and see what's up?
Its functionality is a bit similar to the SFC, too--or at least it does the same kind of things the SFC did. She initiates a video call--and to who else, of course, but--]
Minato-kun?

Minato-kun?

no subject
Hey. What is it, Yukari?
no subject
She has his attention now, though her tone is a bit confused.]
I found this phone in my room and I was just trying it out. I can't find my SFC, either--I wonder what's going on.
no subject
Oh, but the phones. A brief nod.]
They're weird, aren't they? I don't know where they came from, but mine is gone too...
It seems harmless though...
no subject
But there's a nod in return, and then a shrug, because she can't find any room to argue.]
I guess so... [Using it won't kill her, she assumes.] I haven't used a normal phone in ages, though, so this does feel off.
...It says "Dreamberry."
[Is this some knock-off or something...everyone knows it's supposed to be a "Blackberry."]
no subject
It's...really odd. I don't remember Blackberries having all of these other functions either. But some of them don't seem to work.
no subject
[Well, she hadn't exactly had a chance to mess with all of the functions; but she'll take his word for it. She wonders how different they are from their starfish relatives...
But she supposes they'll find out.]
Definitely fishy. [Pun so very not intended!!] But maybe we could ask around. Are you still up for having lunch on the island?
no subject
Of course I am. Let's meet in the lobby and head up.
We're not going to let something like this stop us, right?
no subject
[She expected nothing less from him, if she's honest. So she nods, looking determined and prepared.]
I'll be there in a few, then.
[...
And after hanging up with him, she takes a moment to glance around her room for anything she might need, tidying up as she goes, before heading down to the lobby. She tucks her new Dreamberry back into her pocket as she goes.]
no subject
Lunches were already made and packed; it was just a matter of getting up to the island for their picnic now.]
no subject
She's put it in a neat little basket, even, with a blanket and everything.
So she smiles, spotting him.]
Hey. Ready?
no subject
I am.
Let's go.
[TIMESKIP TO THE TOP OF THE ELEVATOR?]
no subject
And unsurprisingly, all of Vatheon's residents are just as clueless as them regarding the new phone. Confused chatter echoed the streets as they made their way there, and in the end, Yukari steps off the elevator with an unsatisfied glance at her own Dreamberry, yet again.
She hasn't even looked up just yet to see how different the island looks.]
No one seems to know anything...
no subject
b l i n k.
He reacts much like he does at the Dark Hour at the station.]
...Ah.
[...A calm tilt of his head.]
...Strange.
1/2
[Yukari catches his reaction, brief and calm though it may have been and looks up herself.
Blinking once...
Twice...]
no subject
I--
Wh-What the heck happened to the island?!
no subject
He just blinks again.]
Oh...good. You can see it too.
I was wondering.
[Maybe he was hallucinating or something.]
no subject
[Now she's wondering, too. It seems eerily quiet, too--heck, maybe they're both hallucinating somehow?
She really has no idea.]
E-Everything is gone-- [The sand, the beach...]
Should we...um, look around?
[Never mind the fact that she already is, because-- how could they not?]
no subject
Yes...we might as well. There must be some reason that everything...looks like this now.
no subject
[Steady, calming breaths. She's going to follow that example and attempt it herself, and begins to lead the way without realizing it, just because she's so curious.
They're walking past a whole bunch of shops now, suddenly, but...
There's no one around.
Could they really be the first ones up here?]
no subject
...
...]
This is like an entirely different place. The island is...gone.
no subject
[They weren't greeted with the sound of waves like usual, upon stepping out of that elevator, and maybe she misses that the most.
She frowns and looks over to him; glancing down at the picnic basket they'd brought with them.
Then back at him.]
Maybe the Coral did this.
no subject
A quiet sigh.]
Maybe. It wouldn't be the first time, but something this big feels weird...
Did your marking glow?
no subject
[Her marking...
Most days she forgot she even had it, but she remembers it well enough. She sighs as well and glances down at her leg where it would be.
This whole situation is weird.]
I didn't really notice...what about yours?
no subject
[A quiet shrug.
He thinks that means it probably wasn't a curse.
But he sighs, shaking his head.]
Well. Let's not let this ruin our picnic.
[Yep, he's serious.]
no subject
Oh, right. The basket in his hand is pretty noticeable, and she remembers their plans now. Though she was really looking forward to enjoying a nice sea breeze along with it...
She sighs though, disappointment showing only on her face.]
Yeah...maybe we can find a place to sit.
[And set up.]
no subject
There are some nice fields over here. Why don't we set up there?
[food, yukari-chan. Food.]
no subject
S-sure.
[...
...
Yeah, she's just going to follow you, leader. She's not sure of anything at the moment, but she is hungry. And no matter what the change in location, she can't deny that...]
no subject
So he walks on over to the field he saw, spreading out the blanket there so he can sit.
...Ponder, ponder.]
Those are scarecrows, aren't they?
no subject
Ponder, ponder indeed.]
Oh-- yeah, looks like it.
[Creepy looking things.]
I guess they're a problem here.
[Crows, that is. Not that she's noticed...]
no subject
Because that's...odd, isn't it?]
...But then...where are the people?
[If there are scarecrows, people made them.
But there's nobody here...]
no subject
[She frowns. And she keeps her eye on them, as if they're going to start moving any moment.
Even as they're slowly pulling out their food to put on the blanket.]
It's eerie.
no subject
And he glances at the food.]
Well, we can worry about that after the picnic. We can still enjoy the food.
no subject
Okay. Well, she turns her attention back to the food, too. They worked hard to prepare for this, after all, so no use it letting it go to waste.
She grins a bit, trying to stay positive.]
...Yeah. At least the crows won't be bothering us, with those around.
[And she'll pass him one of the little sandwiches, and one of the bottled drinks.]
Here.
[Itadakimasu?]
no subject
[He lifts the sandwich, pleased by the food, and takes a bite before he responds to the rest.]
True. We can always explore more after. We would've heard by now if it were dangerous, so I'm not too worried.
[omnom sandwich.]
no subject
Yukari takes some time to chew and enjoy her own, before she replies. She's already starting to relax a bit more, considering the circumstances, though she does still miss the nice breeze the island would give them...]
...Well, I'll try not to be either, then.
[She's safe with him around, isn't she? And she can take care of herself besides.
It's totally fine.]
But we should do this again once things get back to normal.
[She wants her beach-side picnic, damnit. Assuming things WOULD get back to normal next week... ]
no subject
Of course. We did plan for a picnic on the beach, after all.
This doesn't quite count.
[And he reaches for his drink.]
no subject
But she shakes her head to agree that no-- no, this doesn't exactly count. She feels a bit better already, though, as indicated by her grin.
The sandwich helps too. And once she finishes, she speaks up again.]
Heh. Well, do you want some ice cream after this?
We might be able to find something...
[Something desserty.]
no subject
He's a fan of food, that's for sure.
So he finishes up his sandwich as well, glancing at her.]
We can explore this place a bit later, then. Let's get some ice cream first.
[wow guys priorities.]
no subject
...But she is glad to see his enthusiasm-- so after realizing that both of their sandwiches are done, she nods with a smile.]
I'm pretty sure we can manage both.
[Explore as they search for ice cream!
You're going to have to help her pack up this stuff, though.]
no subject
Do you think there'd be any up here? I mean...there aren't any people.
no subject
Well, yeah, he's right of course, but there's no harm in trying, she thinks.]
True...
W-We haven't checked inside the stores yet, though.
no subject
Well, we can take a look around, at least. If not, we can always go back to Vatheon.
no subject
Yeah. Fair enough.
[Ice cream on the beach, though... SIGH. Maybe another time.
For now, they've successfully packed everything up, so. Seeing no other reason to stick around, she starts walking.]
