[The thing about being a troll in Vatheon is that sleep schedules are random as fuck. There's no sun visible down in the bubble, and even up on the island its rays are comparatively harmless next to the scorching thing that was Alternia's star. Karkat himself hardly sleeps at all, for one, but those that do don't necessarily sleep in the day, or even every day. Just because it was Christmas eve last night didn't mean he submitted to human traditions of human monkey youths curled up in their bizarre restangles. But he also isn't such a dick as to make Eridan stay awake with him that night.]
[But as morning comes, light dawning early with the summer up on the surface, he can't put off his impatience anymore. The bubble has its early morning glow outside, so who cares that it's not even 6 AM yet? Not Karkat Vantas.]
[So maybe he's eager to exchange presents. So what.]
[He leaves his room, where he's spent some of the time fussing over how exactly things are bundle in his gift(s) for his matesprit - which, for that matter, is not captchalogued in his sylladex - and heads for the door of his respiteblock.]
Eridan? Wake up, or I'm coming in there and dragging your lazy ass out of bed.
[Nevermind the time as he knocks heavily at the door. Not that he always does knock, but the noise is a good aid to his purpose.]

But Kar, I need my glasses an' I look like a fuckin' mess, I'm not ewen properly dressed.
[Your boyfriend is such a Queen, Karkat.]
Let me at least get cleaned up first.
[His hair is all wavy and he haaates it Kar, he wants to look pretty.]

Then put your glasses on so you can see shit, and you can get dressed later. This is going to take like ten minutes at the most, Eridan. I waited all fucking night so you could sleep; you can wait not even a quarter hour so we can exchange gifts.

[He heads back to Karkat with the intent to follow, still messing with his hair every now and then when a strand falls in front of his face, or it's not laying how it SHOULD, or you know, maybe he's being a dramatic baby over this. This IS Eridan, after all.]

Here, sit.
[He sits on the couch himself, patting a spot beside him once.]
Then close your eyes and stick out your hands.

[Or you know, maybe he's shit at wrapping boxes.]
Alright, open your eyes.
[And the bundle is constructed as described here.]

[When he realizes what it is, though, his fins perk, his eyes widen with excitement. Was--Was this really a cape? He carefully pulls it from the bundle of scarves just beneath, not even paying them any mind--yet. He's just holding the cape out, staring at it, looking it over with an expression that did nothing to hide his love for the finely crafted piece of apparel. He looks to Karkat, his expression unlike his usual one. Nothing but appreciation and fond regard. You don't understand how much he loves this cape, how much the fact he has a cape from KARKAT means. This alone is enough to distract him from the other bundle that is in his lap.]
Kar... This cape--it's fuckin' beautiful. Holy fuck--I lowe it.
[Words are not his strong point right now.]
no subject
Eridan?
[He points to the rest of the bundle in his lap.]
Look down.

[But then... One in particular catches him. At first, it just seems plain to him--which is fine, not all scarves have to be totally fancy, sometimes simplicity is fancy itself! Though, it's not long after the discovery of said scarf does he notice the real detail of it. He notices his symbol first, naturally drawn to that shade of purple and those zigzagged lines--but then he notices the other end. He stares, reaching for it to bring it closer. Holding the two ends and just... Staring, owl eyed at it because of what it means. What this scarf represents and he can wear it. He can show it off, show off in scarf form that Karkat and him are a thing, but most of all, Karkat is giving him this scarf, giving him it with their quadrant in mind, giving him something with his symbol on it.]
[He'll be wearing Karkat's symbol. That--That alone means a lot, that's some serious romantic shit right there. Eridan's really not sure how to react right now. He kind of just wants to grab Karkat and kiss him, hold him to him and just never let go. Wants to just shower him with affections and love and god how he just adores this troll besides him!]
Kar...
[He says it softly, almost like a whisper. Eyes reluctantly ripping away from ogling the fabric in his hands to look at the troll he pities so much. He doesn't know what to say, still unsure as to how he should even react to this. He is not getting emotional over here, alright, so stop thinking he is, ignore that almost wibbly lip or how he might be a little misty eyed. This just means a lot to him ok, he's not emotional at all, jeez. He is TOTALLY not dramatic when it comes to people doing nice things, especially nice FLUSHED things!! I don't know what gave you that idea!]

[And really, this is why he's glad to have that chance. Just seeing how Eridan reacts to it all fills him with warmth, the soft and comforting feel of flushed sentiment. He'll get to see him wear each scarf, and while scarves may still be dumb, there will be the knowledge that his gifts were appreciated.]
[Then finally, he finds that last one, black with their symbols. This is the one he was waiting for most, with all it symbolizes, and even that alone would have probably been a sufficient gift. As Eridan looks up to him, he looks back... and smiles. It's not a large one, but it is present.]
[He reaches out then, if his matesprit will let him, to take the scarf. There is good reason: after checking which end is which, Karkat drapes it about their shoulders, such that the grey Cancer sign hangs over Eridan's, and the purple Aquarius symbol over his own. He leans against him, shoulders adjacent, then points again to the bundle.]
There's more. Move the scarves.
no subject
[But then Karkat points at the bundle again? More? Really, Karkat? God, Eridan is the one who's suppose to spoil YOU. He tears his eyes from Karkat to look at the bundle, moving the scarves away to see--movies? He lifts them, looking through them all. Noting that they all have to do with two things Eridan loves: romance and history. God DAMNIT Karkat, you sweet, wonderful troll! To top it off, fuck is that actually--it IS. That's definitely that shitty soap opera they both love. God, Karkat, you really out did youself, admittedly, way more than what Eridan expected. Not that he thinks Karkat would half ass this at all, he knows he wouldn't. This is just above and beyond what he expected.]
Fuck, Kar...
[After a look over the DVDs again, he sets them and the scarves on the coffee table because he is going to show you so much gratitude!!. With the distance between them already being small, it proves to Eridan's advantage with how he can just place his hands on the sides of Karkat's face and kiss him. Lips passionately pressing against lips, because goddamnit he's held off long enough from kissing Karkat over these gifts. Jesus fuck how he pities Karkat, how he cares for him and appreciates him and just appreciates everything he does and man he can't kiss him enough!]
no subject
[There's not much to say to those two words, but he does take in the sentiment they carry. The DVDs are then sorted and set down together with the other scarves, and with the hands at his face, the following kiss serves no surprise. This time, he allows it with no fuss. His usual shyness has no place in the present moment: this is something for them, to be spent together and shared. And as infrequently as he has moments this happy, he's not going to stop himself from enjoying it.]
[Karkat's arms slip around his middle as he kisses back. No withheld sentiment - he pities this troll far too much right now.]
no subject
[His hands lower from holding Karkat's head, slipping around his neck as he continues to feed into the kiss, working his lips against his matesprit's, wanting to instill every loving thought and feeling he's having through this gesture. This holiday, however human it is, is wonderful. One that Eridan's definitely appreciating and loving. Even if the root of it is hardly something he'll ever believe in, the feeling behind it, the excuse it gives to spoil the ones you hold dear--everything this holiday has brought so far is magnificent and he's adoring it so much.]
no subject
[His arms curl tighter around him, one at his waist, the other sliding up his back, holding him closer as they kiss. His lips answer back to each gesture, tender with pity, but far from lacking in depth or passion of emotion.]
no subject
[His arms squeeze, not enough to choke Karkat, but to just keep him close, hands grasping and clutching his shirt as he prolongs this, not wanting it to end just yet. Screw breathing! He has a Karkat to kiss and cling to!]
no subject
[As Eridan's arms slide closer about him, he answers with a soft squeeze of his own. Maybe he's similar to him in how it goes. While he has no doubts that the seadweller cares about him, to have it made so expressly clear, to drink it in and enjoy it for as long as the moment will stretch - that kind of thing is good for him, when so often he turns it away.]
no subject
[Though the kiss might be broken, it doesn't mean Eridan's really pulled away, in fact, he's pressing his forehead against Karkat's, keeping that closeness even if it isn't their lips that are connected anymore. He wants to savor this moment, even if breathing interrupted the more passionate connectivity that was there--it hardly sours this. Merely replacing that activity with silent fond regard. His expression soft, tender, nothing the seadweller really offers to anyone but this troll in front of him.]
no subject
[After a moment, though, he gives a soft, amused laugh.] Heh. I take it you liked your presents, huh.
no subject
[It's a playful response, and if the tone wasn't telling, the smile definitely is. He stays put though, just enjoying and admiring this closeness, something he's not too particularly used to, which if anything makes it mean that much more. He gives Karkat another quick kiss, still not exactly moving out of his personal space, even when he starts to talk again.]
So, do you want your gifts?
no subject
Yeah. I'm curious now what you got me.
no subject
[He says that, but he's not exactly moving, not quite. He just wants to prolong this a bit, as much as Eridan isn't exactly the king of romance, he is a sap in his own right, so this happy moment between them, filled with just warmth and admiration, he doesn't exactly want to end it so quickly. Just gonna keep holding onto Karkat, maybe even cuddle to him a bit. HE SURE DOES LOVE AFFECTION.]
no subject
[Karkat reaches over.]
[ . . . ]
[Poooke.]
So are you going to give me them or what?
no subject
[Have a frown at that! But it's just because he really didn't want to move, you are the comfiest, Karkat, it's you. He lets out a exaggeratedly disappointed sigh, and pulls back from Karkat, getting up and heading towards his room. When Karkat was dragging him out, he hadn't really thought about grabbing them, so whatever, he's getting them now! He comes back with a few boxes, all nicely wrapped because Eridan knows how to wrap shit. Or at least, he kept at it till he got it right! So what if he might have went through a roll or two of wrapping paper, it was worth it to get the stupid technique down!]
[He places the boxes on the coffee table in front of Karkat, offering him a coy smile as he takes his seat.]
There ya are. You can go at 'em in any order.
[Though, personally he'd probably leave the middle one for last, but either way, it works out fine enough.]
no subject
[Soon enough the boxes are brought out, all wrapped up nice and everything. Stacked together, varying size and shape, and topmost with its eye-catching bow.]
Any order?
[A glance, for confirmation, though he's already leaning forward to select the top one. He at least doesn't shake it to guess the contents, but the weight of it does make him pause, eying it curiously. And for all the fastidious care put into learning how to wrap them right, Karkat does not care to be so neat in opening them. The paper gets torn off haphazardly, balled together in a crinkly clump, and dumped to the side. Finally he removes the lid...]
[Books! He glances back to Eridan, once, then pulls them out sequentially, examining titles, scanning plot summaries. While not the reader he is, he knows a romance plot when he sees one, and it takes little time for him to gather the gist of their focus.]
Makes sense. I got you into romance movies, so I might as well give these books a try. Beats rewatching things all the time.
[He reaches over and slips his arm around him for a half-hug of gratitude.]
