So this is the new year.
Who: Minato and N
Where: The Beach, Island
When: Backdated to the end of the New Year's Party.
Status: Closed.
[ His first New Year's party had been an experience, at least. It had ups and downs almost as if it were a mini-year inside itself, ranging from the beauty of the fireworks to punching Silver in the face. It was strangely exhausting, and N looked tired as he went away from the party to the beach.
He waded into the water until it lapped his knees, staring out into the ocean. For several minutes, he did not move. Then a small smile made its way onto his face and he reached down as a large turtle head broke the surface, allowing him to stroke it. He always brought Carracosta out to the ocean when he came up to the island, whatever he was doing.
And it was not just her. Something dark and snake-like flitted through the water, darting around his legs. The eel he had ended up adopting came home with him too, something that made him smile a little wider as he dug out two Pokeballs. ]

And when he catches sight of familiar green hair in the water, he just rolls up his pant legs and slowly wades in to join him.
And then, hands in his pockets, he just glances at the sky.]

...Happy New Year.
no subject
Happy New Year.
...Any resolutions?
no subject
...I think... to grow up.
[ Whatever that meant. N wasn't entirely sure, himself. ]
no subject
I see.
I think that's a good resolution.
[A nod, and then--]
What brought it on?
no subject
[ He strokes Carracosta's head, thinking about the implications, before looking to his friend. ]
Do you have any resolutions?
no subject
[...resolutions.
He pauses, looking out at the horizon, hands in his pockets.
Hm.]
...To stand by my decisions.
[Another pause. And then more ruefully--]
To beat Aniki in a spar.
no subject
[ That is obviously about Aniki. He winces slightly as he thinks about the pirate. He has to wonder if fighting him and winning is the only true way to gain his respect. ]
no subject
[He smiles a bit, considering that and looking out at the horizon again. And, musingly--]
He challenged me to, after all.
no subject
[ It's an honest question; N has little idea how Motochika's brain works. ]
no subject
But...N has always been honest with him. It would be better if he were honest with N...right?]
Because...he wanted me to want something for myself.
no subject
[ N rocks on his feet as he thinks. He can understand wanting to defeat Motochika, but perhaps it is in a different way. ]
...not that that's the point.
[ He looks awkward for a moment, before peeking at Minato through his bangs. ]
I'll help, though, if I can.
no subject
You're always helping, N. Our practices help a lot.
I'll tell you when I beat him.
[When. Not If. Minato's always had some confidence. And now the fatal question.]
How are you getting along with Aniki?
no subject
...he didn't punch me again?
no subject
[Minato's question and gaze aren't judging--just quiet.]
no subject
[ N grinds his teeth together, not really wanting to admit to the next part, but -- N is too honest for his own good, and would rather admit his own guilt in any case. ]
Because we were fighting earlier.
no subject
I see.
What were you fighting about?
no subject
It feels like disappointment, to him. Is fighting expected of him now, because he doesn't get along with Silver? ]
...he insulted Hilda.
[ ... ]
And me.
[ The second part is said much softer, a mix between an afterthought and something not as important. Except it was important, to N; the words hurt. However, he did not feel he had a particular right to be angry about things said about himself.
After all... they were right in many ways. ]
no subject
And then, quite solemnly and sternly, he turns back to N. Opens his mouth.
And.]
I hope you got a few good punches in before Aniki interrupted.
no subject
Then he ducks his head, a very sheepish smile crossing his face. ]
...just one. But he didn't get a chance to hit me back.
no subject
[Thumbs up.
And then a pause.
And then--]
Silver-san insulting you is never acceptable. He deserves more than one punch for that alone.
no subject
It is almost flattering. Minato thinks he is worth that.
That makes N's previously rough night better. ]
But I shouldn't have done it in public, like Aniki said.
no subject
Yes, that's true. A party is not usually the best place to fight with someone.
But what's done is done. There's no point to thinking about "what if"s and "what could have been"s. Just learn for next time.
no subject
[ N turns his head to look at him, then his smile widens. ]
Minato? ...thank you.
no subject
You don't have to thank me for that. Remember?
I'll always have faith in you.
no subject
[ He reaches over to squeeze the other boy's hand in a fond gesture. ]
Can I still thank you if I want to?
no subject
...Of course. Of course you can.
You're welcome, then.
