Who: Merman Walter and anyone
Where: Island (beach)
When: Afternoon
Style: Either
Status: Open
[Walter is seated at the edge of shore and damp from waist to toe. Under normal circumstances, he would've been out of the beach by now, but one thing is keeping him from returning to the city. That thing is a jellyfish, who's found a new home.
On Walter's leg. More precisely, his left boot. Somehow.
Despite the frustration welling up in him, Walter doesn't tear the sea creature off of him. He submerges that part of his leg underwater and picks almost gently at the tentacles with his bare fingers. In the eyes of others he may run the risk of being stung, but he doesn't fear such an event.
This is going to be a long afternoon.]

There's a jellyfish on you.
no subject
That's obvious.
no subject
[ Yes--you are blondie.
Guriko raises a hand to point at the creature, wearing an all too serious look on her face. She's using this opportunity to learn more about him!! ]
no subject
He ignores her. She can talk and gesture all she wants. As of now, he would consider paying attention to them a waste of time. Thing is, her jabbering is costing him his concentration. But he's used to working in noise. ]
no subject
[ rude. ]
Be careful, Grouchy. If you get stung, you have to pee on it to stop that pain.
[ sagely nod. guriko is like ten times your age, she knows this stuff. ]
no subject
Don't be a fool. That's a myth.
[ Despite the somewhat kind phrasing, his tone is anything but. He might as well be calling her moronic. ]
no subject
Why are you so cruel to Guriko? She's been nothing but kind to you since you've arrived.
[ And despite her words, Guriko doesn't sound condescending, or like she snapped. She's merely curious, and her tone reflects that. ]
no subject
This girl is irritating. Too stubborn. An Orerines. ]
. . .
no subject
[ She's very much aware that in saying that, Walter's going to get more annoyed. Since, in the short time she's come to know him, she's understood at least something about him mannerisms. ]
Jellyman, [ pausing. hnnnng life is hard. ] Guriko knows she is annoying, and useless in the long run. She does not need you to constantly remind her of that.
So it would be beneficial if you could tell her why you hate her so much, so she can improve.
no subject
Walter listens quietly, because as much as he's technically tuning her out, the words are still sinking in. But the girl has it almost all wrong. Useless? He doesn't care if she's useless. He cares about something else entirely.
Still glaring at her, he almost spits, ]
It's impossible for you to improve upon it.
no subject
[ Not explaining further than that--she doesn't trust Walter, and she's not entirely positive he's interested in what she is deep down. In fact, she's pretty sure he doesn't care. ]
You've judged Guriko before you've known her. Isn't that a bit unfair?
no subject
With his mouth nearly sealed shut, he mutters half out of skepticism and half out of strange curiosity, ]
An apple?
[ Then again, she's demonstrated herself to use bizarre analogies. ]
no subject
[ It feels almost like she's won something--that perking his interest in a positive way is something to celebrate. But in hindsight, if she tells him the truth, he's still going to push away, won't he? ]
It is a long story. Guriko will tell you, if you'd like to hear.
no subject
And a part of him is a little curious to hear her explanation. He won't admit to it. ]
[1/? sobs]
Maybe this will help them grow closer. Maybe this will help them open up. Maybe this will let them be friends.
... And if not, Walter isn't exactly talkative. He won't tell anyone, she's pretty sure. ]
no subject
[ getting that out right in the open-- ]
Or at least, she isn't anymore. Many years ago she used to be. But Guriko was a very sickly child, so she had a near-death experience. Starvation and illness got to her quickly, and she was very close to death when she became unconscious.
no subject
[ pausing. She knows religious folklore isn't common throughout all the places people are pulled from, so she needs to be specific. ]
Where Guriko is from, there is a religious belief that the world started with a man and a woman: Adam and Eve. They were allowed into the Garden of Eden, which was a beautiful place with many different fruit trees and various other wonderful sights. Their one and only rule, given to them by god, was to not eat from one particular tree. An apple tree.
[ a cynical smile-- ]
And, of course, they ate from it. Humans are foolish--naive. Adam and Eve ate, and invented "death" for their future generations. Or something along those lines.
no subject
Guriko chose living, as the foolish human she was.
[ she shakes her head. whoops this is getting long, she's probably losing him-- ]
Since then, Guriko has been part of the heavenly earth. She cannot die, she cannot feel pain, she cannot control her power. She has been turned into "god"--rather, a monster.
[5/5 are you happy]
Because the apple inside her defines who she is.
Because without it, well... she'd only be human.
yes, very.
Immortality, she says.
A monster, she says.
Dropping his hands from the jellyfish, he straightens. After a long pause, causing an awkward silence to drape over them, he states in a low neutral murmur, as though he were stating but one of many facts of the world, ]
. . . we're all monsters.
[ No hint of sorrow, or anger, or anything. Just matter-of-factly.
And if she's just playing him and lying, then she's going to earn her due when he finds out. ]
hi
And then, with his usual nonchalant air—for he'd rather not be serious in front of Guriko—he steps foward from behind them and speaks up.]
I beg to differ. While I'm afraid I can't speak on your behalf, Guriko is not and will never be a monster, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't try to tell her otherwise.
[... There's a bit of a poisonous note in that, despite his light smile.]
'sup
Very quickly, however, she faces Walter and presses her pointer finger to her lips, in a "shh" notion. This conversation is a secret, even from Tiir. ]
Ah, Tiir-nii! [ Guriko turns, and holds out a hand to him! ] Mister Jellyman was telling me about how he befriended a jellyfish. See?
the ceiling
But he has nothing to contribute, and no will to defend his words, because as long as they mean something to him, it doesn't matter what others say about them.
So all he does is stare back, as if Guriko wasn't even next to him. ]
jae you suck
Ah, is that so? How kind of him.
^
... though, the tension is still there (thanks, Walter) and with Guriko feeling slightly closer to Walter, it feels as though he and Tiir should be getting closer as well. But she has no real way of making that happen.
...maybe!
Taking another step, back towards Walter. She's not wearing shoes, so her feet leave imprints on the sand. ]
Do you need any help?
