Who: Jane and a swiss cheese-like tree you!
Where: Forest
When: After Carol's post on the network
Style: Either, but I will probably switch to action. /)_(\
Status: Open
'Carol'. That was the only thing she remembered from when she was kidnapped, so seeing a suspicious person with the same name on the network was enough to make her blood boil. Despite what she had said to Rue, she was having trouble following her own advice and trying to not dwell on that whole ordeal.
She should have been stronger.
She shouldn't have needed to rely on someone else to help her.
She shouldn't have gotten into that situation in the first place.
Those thoughts, along with many others, had been ever-present in her mind for quite some time, and that post in the network had kicked them into overdrive. The kidnapping was unforgivable, there was no getting around that, but she was almost as angry at herself for it despite the flawed logic behind those feelings. And when Jane was angry, trouble was sure to follow.
She had stormed out of her apartment with her ARM in hand, and in her hurry to reach the forest as soon as possible, she was barging past anyone who was unfortunate enough to be in her way. Any 'excuse me's or 'sorry's were out of the question as well.
Once she reached her destination deep in the forest, she immediately opened fire on a tree. However, the strangest part was the rate of fire; it was much too fast for a revolver. It was more on par with a machine gun, but not quite. Of course, that also meant she was going through her loaded bullets very quickly, but a pre-prepared speedloader took care of that. And another. And another. And still another until her pockets were empty and the discarded speedloaders were scattered on the ground.
Jane frowned at the tree with a weary look on her face. Syncing with her ARM usually took a trivial amount of energy, but it wasn't quite so simple this time. In the end she just scooped up her empty speedloaders and plopped down on the ground with her head resting on her hugged knees.
She wanted to feel better. Why didn't she feel better?

She wanted to feel better. Why didn't she feel better?

...
The truth is, Carol isn't a name she remembered at all, even from the incident. But it's hard to think back on it properly with the sound of constant gunfire. She stares at her for a while, but then finally decides to speak up, noticing the tree become more and more scarred.]
...Did the tree do something to anger you?
no subject
The look in her eyes wasn't particularly angry or even sad, which made that short laugh all the more hollow. So hollow, in fact, that the sound seemed to startle even her.]
No. It's just a convenient scapegoat.
[There was another pause before she faced forward again and leaned back on her palms.]
You probably think I'm pretty lame for falling to pieces like this again. Believe me, I wouldn't blame you.
no subject
If you could even see something like that, in the darkness of the forest.]
I said no such thing. You're rather quick to assume.
[To put herself down.
She remembers when she was like that, too.]
no subject
She tilted her head at that remark before deciding on looking up at the so-called sky. It just wasn't the same. Not even the view of the sky from the island was good enough.]
...Well, maybe. Usually my intuition's better than that.
[And even when it wasn't she still went with her gut more often than not, but this time was different.]
no subject
[She shrugs. She is not hear to judge her, or to see if she can read her mind. But the way she'd been acting was concerning.]
Is it something you'd like to talk about?
[...]
Before this forest falls to pieces as well, that is.
no subject
Honestly? Not really. Not yet, anyway... [She brushed a wisp of hair away from her face before standing up and brushing some dirt off her dress.]
But hearing that you're willing to listen helps more than you might think.
no subject
It seems their voices really carry, somehow. But perhaps it's just her imagination.]
Well, then. That's good.
[Though she can't help but wonder about the 'Not yet,' pondering on what exactly she's waiting for.]
I've been here this long, so at the very least, it seems I'm not likely to go anywhere.
[Or change her mind.]
...You know how to find me.
no subject
Still, her brow furrowed. Being gone for that long really would create some complications...but that wasn't important. Not right then, anyway. Besides, there were other things to focus on.]
Same to you, alright? I still owe you a favour from last time, so don't be a stranger!
[Old fashioned, yes, but that kind of speech was par for the course in her world.]
no subject
But clearly...it isn't true.]
Heh, of course. I intend to collect...eventually.
[Except really, so much has been going on, she's not even sure exactly which "last time" she's talking about. But she doesn't mind either way.
...For the moment, she's pretty taken in by the forest scenery. And she stares in awe, despite the damage done to it.]
But...it's rather peaceful, isn't it?
no subject
[Normally she wasn't a fan of peaceful settings; she found herself preferring places more exciting or unusual or even dangerous, but staying in Vatheon had forced her to get used to staying in this kind of atmosphere. Green atmospheres in particular.
She still didn't like it very much though. She felt like a bird with clipped wings sometimes, and what if the orphanage at home ran out of supplies while she was gone? Or worse, what if the kids thought she had abandoned them? That was the thing that bothered her the most, and even though she had no control over the situation she couldn't help but tell herself one thing every once in a while: she wouldn't be like her big sister. Never.]
It's my job to patrol this place, so I'm really only here because I know the area.
[Which was good, because otherwise she would have definitely lost her bearings at least once.]
no subject
[Well, Rue did know that she could fight and take care of herself. And she did know that there's some organization dedicated to protecting this odd city, but she really hadn't thought to put the two together until now. She didn't think Jane cared enough about the city to join such a thing...
But why else would she say it's her job?]
You can't be the only one with knowledge of this area though. Whoever assigned you the job must think you're quite good at it.
no subject
Well, I should hope that I'm good at it after this long! I haven't had much to report lately, though...
no subject
It has been rather quiet lately... Did you ever find the person who broke into your room?
no subject
No, but I'm not in a hurry to track the guy down. My door's already fixed and I already got back at him, so I don't have any complaints.
...No major ones, anyway. I'll yell at him again if I ever run into him.
no subject
She smirks.]
It's a wonder he hasn't broken into anyone else's room as well.
no subject
[And she certainly wouldn't hesitate to take credit for that one.]
no subject
[Not that she would condone such actions if there was one, but...]
no subject
If you ask me, people like that don't learn until they get their hand caught in the cookie jar.
no subject
It sounds as as if he already has. Best to put the bast behind you then, hm?
[At the very least, she got her door fixed.]
no subject
And I feel much better now, so it's all good~
no subject
[The grin is contagious, oh no. So she's kind of smiling widely as she looks at her.]
We should go somewhere a little more cheerful, before your mood is ruined.
no subject
[takes a step.]
no subject
Me, too. It's nicer than expected to have the option...I suppose something good came out of building that elevator after all.
