Thought bubbles and fighting [closed]

While Ky certainly doesn't consider being in the Defence Force a waste of his time, it's also more a matter of protection than keeping his skills up to date. Regular patrols that don't encounter much aren't a substitute for going all out against a skilled opponent. Which is why he's been looking for a sparring partner and now that he's found himself one he doesn't wish to delay it simply because there's a little bubble showing all of his thoughts and emotions.

Ky needs to learn to control them better while he fights anyway, rather than letting them control him, so he's trying to take this as an opportunity as he waits for his arranged sparring partner to arrive. For now, his bubble hovers beside him, a showing a reflection of the forest around him.

[... Interesting. Otoha nods, and moves towards Ky, hand outstretched for a shake. This isn't the kind of battle he's used to, so there's no point in being rude.]

No problem. I've been wanting to spar with someone lately, anyway.

Excellent. I've found it helps, a lot, and it's difficult to go without doing here.

[Ky takes his hand, then withdraws to a decent distance, dropping into a fighting stance.]

[Otoha nods, and drops into a stance as well. It's loose, and as his thought bubble goes blank he draws his sword and rushes towards Ky.]

[Ky draws his own sword and channels a burst of electricity through it towards Otoha.

His thoughts are focused, but the surface of his bubble is a chaotic reflection of lightning bolts coming to points as Ky works on his mental control.]

[ - That's new. There's a flash of something dark, metallic, and bloody in Otoha's thought bubble before he dodges to the side, abandoning his attack. He'd really like to transform right now, but he'll deal with what he has. He jumps, trying to come at Ky with a slash from above.]

[Ky raises his own sword to try to block it, unable to prepare another lightning attack so quickly. Instead he simply focuses on the steel that he has.]

[Good. Otoha twists to try to keep the sword occupied and balances on one leg to try to sweep Ky's legs out from under him.]

[Ky stumbles and corrects himself, pulling back to draw up another burst of lightning through his sword.]

[Crap. He jumps backwards, not wanting to get caught by that. Angles flash through his thought bubble as he finally decides and tries to tackle Ky from the side.]

[Ky's still calm, fighting by itself doesn't tend to make him angry, and neither would losing. Otoha's attack from the side connects, and Ky feels the breath being temporarily knocked out of him.]

[He grins a bit, and presses his blade against the side of Ky's neck.]

Give up?

[Ky stills, but he's not breathing particularly hard yet, and his magic's not yet exhausted. He might be in the vulnerable position, but that doesn't mean that he's giving up. He tends not to do that if he gets a say in the matter.]

No.

Then get away, if you can.

[He's not going to make this easy. He did ask for a spar, and to Otoha a spar just means 'don't kill or maim'.]

[With a blade at his neck, getting away seems a dangerous proposition. Still, Ky has some idea of how to proceed, even if this isn't typically the way he would proceed during a spar. Having someone in a position of weakness isn't always the same as defeating them.

Ky twists, reaching his hand out to send a light burst of electricity through the other's sword. He could feel himself getting tired much more readily with its use than he was accustomed to, and not channeling it through his sword made that worse. Still, he could hardly fight without it, and Ky had fought through exhaustion on enough occasions before that he could keep pushing for a while yet.]

[Otoha watches lazily as the electricity surges through his sword and his muscles twitch a bit. He doesn't seem to react otherwise, though.]

That's not going to work. Maybe you should try another plan.

Don't mock me!

[Ky's leg lifts and slams into Otoha's, not worried at this point about making him lose control so that he might cut Ky. Getting free and back to a proper fight was more important.]

[He doesn't react from the pain, but the force pushes him off-balance, so he takes a step back.]

[Ky increases the distance, letting the electricity flow through him and sending as much of it as he can in a burst towards Otoha, the time for conserving his magic well past, in his mind. He follows up with a jump to create momentum and his sword in front of him.]

[He pushes through the burst, coming out from the end of it with sword held high despite his muscles twitching a bit and ready to block Ky's thrust.]

[Ky slams his sword into Otoha's with all the strength he has, his movements slow but his timing precise enough to insure that their swords do collide.]

[Otoha pushes back, holding back on his strength a bit in case he needs it. He's getting tilted backwards some, but he's not worried. Not yet, at least.]

[Ky keeps their swords clashing. His breath comes in heavy pants but he's not letting himself acknowledge it.]

[After matching Otoha for a moment longer he steps suddenly back, a gamble to follow up with more electricity.]

[He steps through the electricity again, not caring about the muscle spasms or the fact that he's starting to get burns from the electricity, and he raises his sword to slash at Ky's front again.]

[Ky can see Otoha's determination and he respects it, but he's matching it with his own. After all, he has at least as much a desire to win this fight as the other man does. He draws his sword in close to block the blow, but when he lifts his other hand for a lightning bolt he finds himself unable to do so.]

[He dips his sword, trying to disarm Ky with a quick twist of the wrist.]

[ Ky's breath comes in heavy exhales, but he clings to his sword as he feels the shock head up through his wrist and elbow. He's useless to swing it for a couple of moments, until he can recover. ]

[He reaches out and attempts to twist the blade from the other's grasp with his free hand, even if he has to grab it by the edge.]

[Ky isn't expecting that, and Otoha's gamble was successful, as Ky's hand loosens from his sword.]

[He tugs it out of Ky's grasp and tosses it aside.]

Ready to give now?

[Oh. Huh. His hand is bleeding pretty badly. ... He'll fix it later.]

[Ky takes a breath, and nods. He can feel the way his muscles have been used, as well as a lightheadedness that comes from magic drain.]

I am.

You're...bleeding. Are you alright?

[He takes a few steps back, and sheathes his sword.]

This? I don't even feel it. It'll be fine.

[Ky frowns, starting to fret.]

If you don't feel it that could be a symptom of more serious damage.

[He shrugs, and reaches into one of his jacket pockets, pulling out a roll of bandages and starting to wrap the wound.]

It's all right. I don't feel pain.

Ever? Then how do you know that the wound won't cause permanent damage?

[Ky's a little worried about the lightning that the other man took now too.]

Ever. And I've had worse wounds before. That's how I know.

...And wounds equivalent to the lightning I sent into your body?

[... Just lineface.]

I'm still breathing, so I assume I'm fine. I've had an arm ripped off before and I've been burnt badly and I recovered from that.

[... Though that might have to do more with the help of his yurine than his own physical abilities. Hm.]

[Ky winces at that.]

Is there anyone medical who understands your physiology well enough to give you a checkup?

I've talked to the doctor at the clinic here before, but I don't know if it'll really make much of a difference. I'm not really used to going to doctors, anyway.

It's silly to not take the opportunities for recovery that are offered.

[Ky understands about pushing himself as hard as he can, but it's important afterwards to do the necessary things for recovery.]

True. I'll probably go to him if it looks like it's going to be a problem.

How are you going to tell that it's a problem if you can't feel any pain?

[He shrugs.]

I can usually tell if something's going to heal on its own or not. It comes with experience.

I hope you can.

I wasn't seeking to cause you any kind of long-term damage.

[If he won't do it for himself would he consider doing it so Ky didn't have to feel terribly guilty?]

[Maybe.]

I figured. Don't worry about it. I should be okay. I heal pretty well most of the time.

[He'll still worry.]

I hope that holds true for this case as well, then.
