[ Liz is happy that she at least has Kid here. If she were here without either of them, even having Maka around wouldn't be able to help. She rolls over onto her back then and looks up at him, curious. ]

...Is that when those marks on your back happened?

[darkasnight]

Yeah, but we're pretty tough. We can pull through. [There's a smile in his voice.

When she turns over and asks him that his response is belated, like he's remembering something.] Ah...

When I was very young I had a set of wings. I was the runt tho' and so one day a... much bigger an' stronger demon decided to pull 'em off. [Like you would a fly.] I was too young an' weak to grow 'em back, unfortunately.

[ You know it's a good thing the word demon doesn't freak her out anymore. Thanks, Rin!

She has an urge to see the scars again, to maybe run her fingers over them if he'd let her, but she lowers her gaze instead and lets out a breath. ]

Well, I think you showed him. Runt? No wings? But look at you. Healthy and strong. A fighter.

[ty, rin...

Maybe when he's a cat again she can. Thankfully the scars didn't transfer over into his human form or else that'd be odd to explain if he ever had his shirt off.

He looks down at her, the corner of his lips pulling up.] It wouldn't have been possible if I didn't have help. Having someone there for you really... changes things.

It does, doesn't it? My sister and I were living on our own in New York. We... kind of knocked people over for money, most of the time. That's why I went with Kid originally, y'know. I thought he would be an easy mark. Spoiled little rich thing like that...

[ heh. ]

Not sure when it happened, really, but... I just didn't want to, anymore. And I couldn't see myself leaving. Ours were souls who knew and understood each other.

[darkasnight]

... What's that like? [He almost hesitates to ask, but-] I mean... being able to connect with someone with your soul? How does it feel?

[proudsister]

[ That was a good question. How should she describe this? ]

It's like... it's that moment, when you've shared every secret of your heart with someone you care about. You've laid yourself completely bare for them, and they've done the same for you. It's one of the most intimate moments you can share with another person, but it's not in any sort of romantic way, it's just... Pure. And beautiful. ...Well, as long as it's with a soul that resonates with yours.

You get one that's a little off and it just feels weird and wrong.

Ah. [He'd never know what that would be like, but hearing it was... Well it was impossible to miss what you never had, right?]

It sounds amazing. Not gonna lie, I wish I could experience something like that. [His smile widens.] Is Kid and your sister the only people you've... connected with like that?

[proudsister]

That deeply? Yes. It's actually pretty hard for Meisters and Weapons to find their perfect match. You kind of go through a lot of trial and error. Of course, some Weapons are just inherently better at matching with whatever Meister is using them. Same for Meisters; some are really good and bringing the Weapon's soul to their own. All of the others I've come near haven't been right for me at all, though. Only Kid and Patti.

It's all about compatibility.

Do you think that's what it's like for Rin an' Maka an' Kid? [It sounded... so human. To be able to connect with another being on that sort of level, beyond words, and to feel complete like that...

It was hard not to feel envious.]

Or maybe that's bein' too intrusive...

Similar, but... pretty different. At least, I think so, anyway. I've never exactly had a boyfriend to compare the notes. For me and Patti and Kid it's more like... family. The three of them have something else altogether.

[He falls quiet for a moment.]

Sorry. I must be pretty annoying askin' so many questions, huh?

[proudsister]

Not at all. I never know any good questions to ask, so it's nice for someone else to do it.

[ And she's just going to roll over again-- though this time it's to face him, nearly resulting in her, essentially, burying her face against his stomach.

He smells nice. ]

Of course, my answers aren't ever that great, either.

[He doesn't mind the close contact, being a pretty friendly guy overall. Spoiled by living with Monaka's love during those precious years left him aching for more after he left and so he took what he could get.]

I like your answers. [He smiles faintly.] Being from different worlds there's a lot I'm curious about. [A pause.] Of course if you have any questions for me I'll try my best to answer them for you.

Maybe you should grade my tests, then.

[ Because no one else seems to like her answers. ]

You said you're a demon, right? So which version of you is more... you. The cat or this piece of pretty that I'm laying on?

[He doubts that'd work out well.]

Ah... My true form is what I was earlier. [He responds to the compliment with a smile aimed at her.] I took this form ten years ago.

[ Are you kidding it'd be perfect she'd never fail. ]

Well I like them both. Adorable and travel size cat Night and fully grown, attractive yet still adorable human Night.

[ Is her voice starting to fade? She sounds like she's falling asleep. ]

So, adorable all around? Color me flattered, Liz. [It's easy to nod off like this. He resists the urge to pet back her hair, unsure if that would be too friendly for someone he just now met. So he keeps his hand on her shoulder, thumb rubbing small circles into her skin.]
