06: Why do you live your life in someone else's shadow?

[It's been a few days since the fair, and Nanaki has spent most of it relaxing and recharging her 'interacting with people' batteries. Even though she likes hanging out with people, she does need her alone time.

But by Thursday her batteries are recharged and she's ready to talk to people again. She actually considers an open invitation for a hangout, but before she can send out the invitation to the network she remembers how hectic the whole 'help me clean up my apartment and I'll feed you' thing got. Maybe instead of an open invitation, she should just invite one or two people over for a small hangout.

Oddly enough, Davesprite is the first person that comes to mind. He's only one of her many friends, but for some reason she's found herself thinking about him first when she says 'friends' nowadays. Admittedly, he does know how to have fun, so he would be the perfect person to ask over for a movie and game night.

So while she thinks about who else to invite over (if anyone else, Davesprite seems to open up more when it's one-on-one with him), she pushes at a few buttons on her SFC and calls him.]

[Davesprite contemplates the popcorn as he snags another handful.]

Just means we need to watch another movie. Or keep watching until all the popcorn's gone.

I'm an insomniac, so it's fine. My sleep schedule won't be affected as much.

You know, I always wondered what it would be like to live in a world where you break out into song and dance all the time. It would get tiring after a while, don't you think?

I apologize if I drool on you 'cause I'll probably use you as my pillow.

I'm always curious as to how the hell everyone knows the song, but that's my question with all musicals. It has to get old pretty fast to sing about your feelings every five minutes.

It would be worse to be a backup singer. Not only do you have to know all the words, but you also have to always sing about the main characters and never about yourself.

Some people don't mind that. The main character's always got all these hoops to jump through, so it might be better to be the backup singer for some.

[findsrisks]

Yeah, but the backup singers are more likely to have random accidents for the sake of laughs. At least the main character doesn't have to worry about falling down a hole and everyone laughing at them.

I dunno, Alice's dress slowing her fall down the rabbit hole was kinda funny. I didn't think old English dresses worked that way. Don't get me started on Pooh Bear.

Alice was the main character, though. If Alice was a backup singer, she would've just fallen all the way down.

It's Wonderland, who knows what could've happened to a backup singer? Might've been as psycho as the Queen of Hearts or Cheshire Cat.

The Cheshire Cat was psycho?

[She knew the Queen of Hearts was, but not the cat.]

Well, not as much as the Queen, but psycho in his own way. Probably as insane as the Mad Hatter, but way more cagey and with a creepy slasher smile.

Wow...he was always my favorite, too.

He was at least helpful in his own way. Personally, I liked the March Hare.

Why the March Hare?

'Cause it's hard to tell if he was teasing, instigating, or being serious while still obviously having a few screws loose. He kinda did a bit of all three in that movie. Only thing I remember from some other Alice in Wonderland movie I saw was Whoopi Goldberg playing the Cheshire Cat, and I thought that was the creepiest thing I ever saw.

Really famous American actress. She played Shenzi in the Lion King, since we're going Disney.

[That's okay, he knows next to nothing about Japanese actors.]

[She really doesn't remember the names of the hyenas in the Lion King. For a moment she thinks Shenzi was one of the lions or something.]

Ah. I guess I don't know that much about American actors, sorry.

Hakuna matata. I don't know shit about Japanese actors, so we're even. We can have a cultural exchange of actors some time.

It sounds like we need several more movie nights.

[Nanaki can already think of a few good Japanese movies that Davesprite definitely has to see. She'll have to find copies with subtitles, though, since she's pretty sure he doesn't speak Japanese.]
