It's probably a ruse, a diversion to keep the ragtag team from getting at whatever will destroy it.

She's not talking to anybody but herself, of course, but her attention is caught by something shining inside of one of the monsters, not present in the other. It's not a soul, per se, but she feels something from it regardless, a sort of living pulse, a spark of magic. Then--
"Attack the one on the left!" Maka readies her scythe to do just that herself.
