[the moment he realized there was no walking away from this little game of chess he'd prepared, it'd been a no-brainer. it didn't require thought. it didn't require preparation. it was entirely sudden, for both he and the Professor. it was either this, or suffer a lot of pain from the hands of his enemy before meeting the same fate.

he hadn't meant for Watson to see it. if he could have planned anything, it would have been further distraction for his closest friend. his mind was silent, for the first time in recent memory, as he fell, contemplating death, replaying that look on his friend's face.

he let go of Moriarty finally, wrenching the man's quite literal death grip from his arms, and opened his eyes. the world was rushing past him, a mix of blue and grey and sharp black of the cliffs, and he swallowed, preparing for impact.

it really only took the space of a blink. suddenly, he wasn't falling through the mist - he was falling through the sky, an entirely new and unfamiliar landscape below him. he can't help the short cry he gives out, entirely confused and somewhat terrified, the ground coming to meet him faster than the water ever was (at least, it seems so; he knows in the back of his mind that's simply fear, the change of scenery actually nothing to do with his current velocity) and suddenly death is much more certain and real to him that it was a moment before, plummeting down the Reichenbach falls.

he manages to twist in the air, landing hard in the lake in the forest, all thought and breath knocking from him as he lands and slides under the water. well. perhaps death isn't such a terrible thing.]

[It didn't take much to jostle Demyx from the nap he was taking under the old willow on the lake's shore--with his senses heightened the way they were, he was already sitting up by the time Sherlock's voice reached his ears. And then he saw him falling.

And falling.

And falling.]

And then when he hits the lake, Demyx cringes, lifting a hand to shield his eyes from the sight. But then things start to feel off. Wouldn't most people have come up by now?

'Crap.'

Okay. Yeah. This really isn't a good sign. It's so bad that he's throwing everything into the wind to scramble up to his feet and dive into the lake after the new foreigner. Please don't be dead, please don't be dead, please don't be dead--]
