Up for a game?

Who: Radical Edward and her dog Ein, plus anyone who wants to join.

[A curious sight will greet the visitors of the bubble. A scrawny young girl sitting at a small table in the plaza. The table has two seats, which she is currently occupying one of. On the table is a peculiar fish-themed chess set.]

[The board is set up, but with no moves currently made on it. The black pieces are facing towards the girl. The chair across from her, in front of the white pieces, is currently empty. She is staring at the board, waiting.]

[Next to her, on the ground, is a brown welsh corgi. He seems to be occupying himself by exploring the immediate area around the plaza, but for the most part, sticks within sight distance of the girl at the table.]

Gate-y....disaster? Would you mind telling me what happened? It sounds pretty...scary. [Don't tell her that it's anything involving a tidal wave here

As she leaned back against the chair, as she sees Edward whooshing around, she eyes eventually went back to the board.

Shirley knew that the queen was powerful but she was trying to read Edward's movements. In addition, she wanted to see how well she can do in chess. Hm...maybe she was starting to get a little too overconfident here.

Shirley was starting to get worried. So far, it seemed like Ed hadn't done anything yet and that she would do it eventually. What now?

Feeling scared, she moved another one of her pawns forward. She didn't see the bishop just yet but this felt like a more safer route]

[Ed, still in teacher-mode, begins...]

It was scary, before Ed's time though. The basics of it are that when Humans went into space, it was all done by conventional forms of propulsion. Which for travel around the earth was not bad, but Space is so impossibly huge that it it would take months and months to get even to the next-closest planet.

Some scientist-y people decided to make gates. Now, gates are very specifically calibrated machines that open a path that spaceships can travel through what is called 'phase-space'. The theory goes that every 1/48th of a second our universe blinks off and on like a strobe-y light. The importance of this being that while the universe is 'off' in its place is a version of our universe that is much, much smaller. This one is about 240 times smaller then the regular one.

The gate opens a path for spaceships to enter into the phase-difference-space, allowing them to essentially travel 240 times faster then in the 'real world'. so those month-long travels become one of about half a day.

The gate disaster was the very first gate they tried to build in the orbit of the Earth's moon. Something went wrong during testing, nobody really knows what, and it blew up, taking a large chunk of the moon with it!

[Edward mimes a dramatic explosion with her hands.]

Because of it, pieces of the moon began to rain down all over the earth. Lotsa people lost their lives, and most of the rest that lived went to mars, or other planets and moons of our solar system. Some people stayed on the earth, in protected cities, underground for the most part. Ed herself is from the Earth!

[Seems like Edward has forgotten to make her next move.]

[What the...

Shirley didn't understand most of what she was trying to say but she did understand the idea behind gates and space travel]

Goodness! If it's like that, it seems like a lot of fun! I wonder if our world will never get a chance to do something like that! ...Maybe if I do go back home with my memories, I could tell other people about it.

[It wasn't very likely but hey, worth a shot right? But the moment what she heard next...

Oh.

It isn't as bad as tidal waves...but still!]

I see...that's rather sad. But it seems like they learned an important lesson from it and it hasn't happened again right? At least the people living in the planets are safe?

[And she forgotten hers too]

Edward is not sure about the memories thing. She does not know a lot about this place. Other then curses happen, and you learn to deal with that.

[Not that she has really looked hard into the behind the scenes stuff in the bubble.]

For the most part, still the usual human stuff. Violence, Wars and all that. There are gates all throughout the solar system, all the way to little-baby-demi-planet Pluto. It is a prison, now.

Edward was actually a bounty hunter when she was aboard Bebop, which was fun!

Hm...I'm not sure how much information I can provide you but if there's anything you want to know about Vatheon, I can try to answer them for you? But that would mean that you just arrived here?

I see...even after the planet being almost destroyed, there's still war and violence. How...sad.

[Of course, she was going to be depressed for a bit until...]

W-Wait what? You're...a bounty hunter? [A girl like her? Huh, there is always a wide range of here in Vatheon weren't there?]

Edward arrived a couple months ago, she has just hasn't looked into the workings of the place. She knows the network really well, though!

[Shirley's surprise is met with another one of Ed's goofy smiles.]

Oh yes! Edward was! She hunted bounties. Bounties, Huntfully.

Well, more so- Ed helped the Spike-person, Jet-person, and Faye-Faye track bounties. Edward mostly stayed on the Bebop and helped them with Intelligence and Net diving, Like a super-secret spy! Oh yeah! Edward is good at that sorta thing!

Hm...then if it's like that, is there anything you want to ask about Vatheon? It's still a big mystery but I hope that I can try to answer some questions?

[Nope, she still can't believe it]

Uh...it sounds you had quiet the adventure whenever you're out hunting them! And it also sounds like you had a lot of fun too!

[Out...hunting...people...]

[Ed thinks for a second, but cannot come up with anything off the top of her head she wanted to ask. But then again, she still found this place very fun so has not really thought about leaving, or learning more about it.]

Oh yes! Ed had lots of fun! Hunted a horrible space monster, thwarted an evil mind-controlling cyber cult, tracked a mushroom man, tried wearing socks!

Ed had lots of fun on Bebop.

[....Her world sure is...interesting. But then again, Shirley can't say anything when there's a giant ramen noodle monster that attack you]

Oh? Is wearing socks that bad? It certainly seems like you live in a world that's pretty dangerous too!

By the way, what is a Bebop?

Socks are hard. Ed cannot wear them. They make her all fall-downy. There are dangers, yes, but Ed knows what to avoid.

Oh! Bebop is a Spaceship! It is owned by the Jet-person. It is how Ed and her friends went around the solar system. It is a modified Ganymede interplanetary fishing trawler. It used to catch fishies, and then it was modified to catch bounties!

But don't your feet get cold? How will you be able to walk on rocky surfaces if you can't wear socks? What about shoes?

[Imagine walking that much barefooted all around the Legacy. OOWWWW]

One of these days, if we're able to go to other worlds, I wouldn't mind going there for a visit! There aren't many other planets outside my own in my world so it would be nice to see them all...

And meet other people of differences races too.

Nope! And Ed just walks on them. She has very tough feetsies. Ed has not tried shoes...

[This girl walks across deserts, cities, and spaceships without shoes or socks, and has for her entire life.]

Edward would love to show the Shirley-Person around Earth and everywhere else! It would be really fun. Ed would take her on Bebop and show her the stars! No other races there, though. Ed did not see those till she came to the bubble-city.

[Meanwhile Shirley just stares at the girl in front of her. Just...how was that possible?

Either way...there was a hint of sadness from the girl as soon as Ed said it]

I see...but I never seen the stars up close before! Isn't it super hot? I thought that it need to be far away or else you would burn up!

Hm...I always thought there would be other races out there too...

[Quite the valid question when considering most things involving Edward.]

Oh no, silly. They stay far away! The only star nearby is Mr. Sun, and the closest we get to him is Venus, the second planet from him. The rest stay tens to thousands of light-years away. But, the view of them is quite pretty, like thousands of twinkling jewels in an infinite void!

Nope, no alien-peoples. At least not back home. To be fair, Humans have only searched their own solar system with any degree of thoroughness. There could be swaths of them living around all the other stars. Even with gates, they are too far to travel to conventionally. Scientist-y peoples will have to find a new means of going super-de-duperly fast.

But for now, you can enjoy the alien peoples here! Edward has made friends with some of them!

[Oh Ed]

Ah, I thought that you can go into space! So wouldn't you be able to see some stars a bit more up close?

[As Shirley reminded confused, what she says next confirms a few things]

Oooohhh, I see! You can only visit places in your own solar system! I hope that you'll be able to see it when it happens! Hopefully you world will be able to go other worlds out there!

[And there was a giggle]

Who knows, maybe you'll be able to find my world out there.

Yep, Space is too big for the ships we do have. Even with gate technology the farthest we get is Pluto which is a teeny tiny demi-planet at the edge of the system. They turned it into a super-max prison.

[Another one of Ed's silly grins.]

Ed would love that! To see new places is always exciting! Then Ed can come and visit the Shirley-Person!

A planet only for prisoners huh? That seems a bit scary don't you think? If you were to be trapped there, who knows what might happen! To make it worse, what happens if they do find out you're trapped here by mistake too...

[Actually, you know what? Shirley doesn't want to think about it anymore!]

And then you can meet a bunch of my friends too! [Pause] You know, Ed, you remind of someone back home. She's pretty hyper and energetic like you...and she wears a lot of yellow.

They only take the really bad people there. Spree-Murderers and the like. Put them out on Pluto where they cannot threaten people. I do not think people get taken there unless they have been proved to have done really terrible things, so do not worry about ending up there.

[She tilts her head.}

Yellow? Why Yellow?

What about those who were there because a trial accidentally mistaken them for a criminal? Wouldn't that be...terrible?

[Hm...that is a good question...]

I suppose she likes it? Although, I wonder if it is a good idea to wear something so bright when she's battling something...

Edward likes to think they do not make mistakes, otherwise it would be bad like you said. Typically the ones that end up on Pluto are high profile enough that it would be a hard mistake to make.

[You know... hopefully.]

Oh? The Yellow-Not-Edward fights stuff?

I just hope so...I have don't want a mistake like that to happen. And if it did...

[Of course, she has a feeling Ed might be a bit too...innocent about things like these. While she is too, Shirley had wrong through enough hardships to last her a lifetime. Still, she hopes that nothing like that ever happens to Ed]

But anyway, yes, Gnorma likes to fight a lot of stuff! In fact, she likes to fight giant spiders, giant bears, and even a God himself! Isn't that pretty cool?

[To say Edward views the world in rose-tinted glasses would be a gross understatement. She simply shrugs. Eds life has been a peculiar one.]

The Gnorma-Person Fights a lot of stuff! Edward is impressed. Does the Shirley-Person fight all that stuff too? Ed thinks it sounds super-scary; Especially the bears.

[At least it's not an eggbear]

Mhmm, I do! Just like Gnorma, I use spells to defeat my enemies so I don't fight in the front lines. But that doesn't mean my spells aren't as powerful as they are!

[Because I am the Merines, I do whatever I want! ...Sort of]

I can show you some right now but I think that might have to wait because of our game.

[Nope. Sorry, Shirley. You mentioned magic.]

The Shirley-Person is a wizard!?

[Yes, she's a wizard and will eventually go to Hogwarts. ...She would have loved that canon instead of this Tales of verse she got stuck with.]

Ah...not quite, I'm a crystal eren so that's why I'm able to use spells! There are others who can do it too! I know that Hubert, Walter, and Zelos can do it too!
