[Having spoken with Ky about fishing a few days ago, Malik had increased his own desire to do some. He arrived a few hours early in order to try his hand at some sea fishing. Those had flown by with little success. Perhaps Ky was right in turning it down. Sometimes it could be kind of boring.

Malik wasn't giving up, but it was time to meet Zelda and her friend. Their agenda promised to be far more entertaining than the fishing. He packed up his fishing pole and bait, slung his bladerang onto his back and walked back to the elevator, hoping to find the others on his way.]

[It was a little chilly out, and the princess had bundled up accordingly, as well as ensuring that Duke did the same. That didn't stop her from forcing him to properly wear sunscreen this time, though. Summer or not, he was especially susceptible to sunburns. She shows up on time with Duke in tow, waving cheerfully.]

[Say hello, Duke. Or just size Malik up magically. She figures it's going to be the latter.]

[ Duke feels a little silly being bundled up and sunscreened. Isn't one enough?

Of course, he's not complaining about the warmth.... and if he thinks about it, the sunburn he had last time wasn't fun at all... So maybe it makes sense.

He's not going to be quite that rude Zelda, but he most definitely isn't going to wave.

Hello your highness, hello Duke. Nice to meet you.

[He offers Duke a handshake.]

I've heard that you're interested in eleth.

[Have a bit of a look for calling her "your highness" again, Malik. She's getting the feeling that it's become a thing at this point and that arguing it further will just make him even more likely to call her by her title. She quietly digs for her notebook rather than correct him.

Correct. [ Hand offered.... that means handshake, doesn't it? Okay. He'll do that... only its really a borderline rude grasp where he wants contact gone again shortly afterward. ]

Made a study of own world's magic. Interest applies to other world's.

[Malik doesn't linger on the shake. One firm motion and he lets go.]

[Hearing them speak one after another, Zelda realizes just what it was about Malik that's reminded her of Duke all this time despite the fact that they're so different.

Interesting.]

Let's move away from the elevator a bit, shall we? From what I could tell from that textbook, your worlds share some basic spells. I'd love to see both versions in action.

[ Yes good please- Duke starts looking for a clear spot that provides some shade. He's anticipating completely losing track of time. ]

Wish to see if can manipulate mana in was similar to eleth, if cannot find and use eleth itself. [ He wants to learn... ]

[Malik nods and walks after Duke. It takes a few moments to process the meaning of his words.]

It seems like you're already quite an adept caster. That should make things easier.

[His next question is both to Duke and Zelda.]

Perhaps the basic elements? Wind, earth, fire, and water?

Water is likely easiest considering our location. I've learned most of the technicalities behind the "Splash" spell at least. It's remarkably similar considering the fact that you're both from separate planets. Would you?

[Zelda stays in the sun, finding the cold weather to be unpleasant. She gestures out in front of them. Cast away!]

[ Zelda, Duke isn't that good at water, but he shrugs and focuses.

And really he's more worried about the sun than cold. He'll probably cycle between sitting in the sun and then in the shade while the acquired warmth wears off.

But this is a good clear spot for casting. Splash takes him longer than, say, Spiral Flare would, but that's because he's good at fire. ]

[Malik watches and waits for his turn. Water, actual water, as opposed to something like ice, is not particularly pleasing to him either. It's a little cool out here and getting wet would make it positively cold. Sure ice is cold, but it doesn't have the chance of directly getting you soaking wet.

He doesn't say anything. Instead he turns up his collar around his neck and begins casting.

It takes only a few seconds of casting. During that time, the air around them becomes almost imperceptibably drier. The water materializes and falls to the ground in a decent splash.

Hopefully, most of it misses them.]

[As long as it's fresh water, Zelda can dry them off easily. She tilts her head at the curious relation between the spells. That confirms that their casting method is similar. She takes a couple notes down before lifting her head again.]

Since the primary difference between eleth and mana seems to be the segregation of the elements, why don't you both cast a basic non-elemental spell? It doesn't matter which one in particular.

[ Non-elemental....

Zelda all of his non-element spells are... uh. big. ]

... One known for combat is... big. [ Don't mind that brush of magic against you, Malik, Duke is making sure that he doesn't accidentally meteor you.

Because that's what his non-elemental spell. Meteor Storm. Which was perhaps disturbingly easier for him to cast than Splash was...

Don't mind the strange weather, rest of Vatheon. ]

[Malik doesn't mind... too much. The contact is a little distressing, as he's been trained to fight back in these cases, but he is also in full control of his combat abilities.

He somewhat reflexively covers his head as the meteors fall down.

If Duke chose sky, Malik picks ground.

He begins his incantation.]

"Struggle no more, deathmire!"

[Small voids appear on the ground sucking into them nearby objects - some of which are Duke's meteors.]

[She'd been expecting something smaller out of both of them. Levitating an object, maybe. Not massive doom raining from the sky and then some strange void to suck it all away. In retrospect, she should have been a little more clear about that.]

[Wait, she wasn't supposed to get distracted while they were casting, was she?]

That was a bit more than I expected. Would you mind doing it again? I'm afraid I got distracted.

[She'll be honest at least. And also glad Malik didn't attempt to suck her into hell or whatever that spell is doing.]

[ He'll try moving it a little further away, but its an area spell with no real target so its still random.

Sorry Zelda, he didn't give Rita much of a chance to use Blade Roll or Tractor Beam, so he hasn't gotten more than a vague idea of some spells that are less "doom from the sky". ]

[Malik blinks once or twice but complies. Isn't she supposed to be the studious type?

He casts his spell again, small voids swirling into existence on the ground and then disappearing.]

[It's because she's that type that the display distracted her! She pays closer attention this time.]

Interesting. You both seem to absorb a small amount of the ambient mana while channeling it to cast spells regardless of the element... is it purposeful?

[Zelda doesn't really do that. Most of her magic is internal or simply manipulating the external, it's a great deal of the reason why she's so limited when it comes to attack spells and certain elements. Considering the source she has to draw on, though, she doesn't tire out too easily.]

.... To restore what already hold, yes. Could... not do so, but would tire quicker.

[ As it is, he tends to get 'tired' of simply doing magic, rather than running out of available mana. ]

Technically, yes, although it's more of a habit by now.

Duke's right. I suppose I could use the eleth in me but that poses a few problems.

The first is that I don't have an abundance of any one type. It all evens out. Using up one type in a spell could cause some damage, especially if there wasn't any around to restore it.

The second is that you can cast much stronger spells by using external eleth. Living things contain enough eleth to survive, but you can achieve much higher concentrations of it through cryas crystals or proximity to the valkines.

That is true. My spells are mostly internal with a bit of manipulation of the external, but the combat applications are certainly limited.

[Her "internal" spells are drawing greatly on the Triforce of Wisdom and her own heritage as Hylia's reincarnation, though. Though that does make her wonder...]

Are there any gods or goddesses on your worlds? That would be something that could account for the similarities in casting.

...... Once, the Entelexeia were revered as such. Few temples and shrines still exist. Otherwise, the Empire has a Goddess, which, of my opinion, is a way to tie divine right into the choosing of emperor, merged with half-forgotten history. Only statue have seen is of a young woman, winged, with Dein Nomos.

[ Which means as far as Duke is aware, there's a fake one, and people worshiping 'intelligent monsters', which he knows aren't gods, even if they are rather powerful. And often big.

But on the topic of eleth and mana- ]

Eleth is held within elements, then. Already sorted. Would make for difficulties in ... replenishing water cast, in a dry area.

There is one region on our world that concentrates water eleth. The entire surrounding land is a desert. In my home country, we have a large valkines crystal that is filled with fire eleth. It snows almost all the time.

We have no gods or goddesses. There was once a race of people that had far more control and engineering ability of eleth than we currently do, but they have long since died out.
