[He doesn't really care too much about giving out this information. He's given it out to enough people, and besides, if he keeps it general enough, there won't be any too personal questions. Probably. If his luck held.]

[Unfortunately, this guy seems like he's not going to be so casual about those questions. There's something about him that reminds him of Naoya, and not really in such a good way. Rolling his eyes to himself, he leans back against the bench and waits.]

[ Joshua keeps his correspondent waiting for a while; he's always fashionably late to meetings, you know. Still, it doesn't take all that long for Joshua to arrive at the coral. And hello, what do we have here? An unusual guy, to be sure. A likely candidate for a Messiah, though Joshua can't help but wonder if it gets a little crowded with a soul like that.

Smiling as he approaches with a wave. ]

Hello, little Messiah.

[ Never mind that he's probably taller than Joshua. ]

You haven't been waiting long, have you?

[He looks up at Joshua, and waves back. He's used to being called all kinds of things by now, so he's not concerned with the nickname.]

Not particularly. I hope it wasn't too much trouble to come out here.

[ Joshua raises his hands in an exaggerated shrug, before he grins. ]

What can I say? I have a fondness for stories. [ Joshau gives him a sidelong look and adds. ] Especially the stories of other people.

I see.

[He thinks. Where to start...]

So, you wanted to hear about how I became Messiah, right?

Of course~ It's not every day a Messiah is chosen! Most simply are one.

[ Joshua says his next words perfectly seriously, although the smile on his face undermines the sincerity of his statement. ]

Maybe I'm hoping I can become a Messiah after listening to your story.

[He shakes his head.]

Trust me. You don't want to become a Messiah. It's not a nice job.

[Mm. Where to start.]

I guess I should ask, since we're all from different worlds here, but are you familiar with the Yamanote Line area in Tokyo?

[ Joshua tucks his hands into his pockets and nods. ]

You needn't worry; I'm Shibuya born and raised. The Yamanote Line carries 3.5 million passengers every day... at least in my world.

That's right. It covers a huge area, and there's a lot of people there.

I was in that area when the government shut down the whole area, railway included, and put a wall up around the whole area. Demons started appearing there, and people... well, they kind of went crazy.

[He pulls out his COMP from his pocket. He doesn't need it anymore, but it's comforting to have.]

These are gaming machines from my world. This is a modified one, though - and there were a lot of them being distributed through the area. They can summon demons.

[ ~~Oh hey it's an NDS!~~ Of course. People do become rather irrational, once they realise they're trapped. Joshua isn't surprised people snapped. ]

That's quite an impressive piece of modding to change a gaming system into a demon summoning machine.

[ Joshua gestures vaguely as he speaks. ]

Let me take a wild guess at what happened next. People started using the demons to give themselves power over others without them. Am I correct?

My cousin managed it. He's a computer genius.

[That's. About right. He nods.]

They did. And aside from that, very powerful demons appeared to battle it out over which of them would be the king of demons. There's a function here that lets you know the day of your likely death, though it can be changed, and when my friends and I defeated one of the powerful demons that was going to kill us... I ended up being entered in the war, since I absorbed his power.

[ Joshua can't help but laugh. ]

It seems knowing your potential fate helped you overcome it. I can't say there are many like yourself.

[ Still... ]

Is absorbing demonic power usual for humans in your world? Or is that limited to just you?

[ Or whoever defeated the demon? ]

We did have some help - there was an email sent to us every morning with news of the day before it happened. We did what we could to prevent any deaths from happening.

[It's what any decent person would - or at least should - do, after all.]

It's not normal, no. There were... a few candidates, but after I absorbed Beldr's power, I was the only human qualified.

After that, there was... a lot of trouble. Normal people were attacking demon tamers, demon tamers were attacking normal people, demon tamers were attacking demon tamers... we broke up what fights we could.

And then we learned why everyone had such a low number of days to live - the government was going to fry everyone inside after a week if a solution wasn't found. They were hoping to kill off all the demons, but... it probably wouldn't have worked.

There were more of those powerful demons. We fought another, and by then it was the sixth day of the lockdown. A few people had ideas of how to solve the problem.

One of my friends wanted to run - but I'd have been chased down by the other demons. My cousin wanted me to become the King of Bel - the king of the demons - and fight God, who was the one who ordered the lockdown. And Amane - the daughter of a cult leader who had both a demon and an angel locked in her - wanted me to become the King of Bel... but then use that power to become the Messiah.

[He looks down for a moment, before looking back up.]

We didn't have a lot of time. I went with Amane's choice, because I thought an all-out war would get too many people involved, and too many people hurt.

[ So the e-mail... also contained a list of how many days a person had left to live? Or was there some other feature that hadn't been explained?

But Joshua's never been too invested in these kinds of details; he's far more interested in people. ]

Now that you have more time to consider your choices, would you still choose the same path, if you were given the chance to go back and change it?

[ Joshua wants to see if the verbal response to his question matches the non-verbal cues so far. ]

... I don't know. I think I'd try to find my own path. There's a lot of problems with all of those choices.

[And yet...]

But wondering how I would have picked differently doesn't really matter anymore. It's in the pat, and what I need to worry about now is the future.

[ Joshua smirks. ]

Ah, but don't you know? The past is a path that leads to the future.

[ He has quite a few other questions. Questions related to the demons and angels and this little Messiah's God, but he'll save those for later. ]

After all, is it not past mistakes that led people to where they are now?

True. But you can't change the past, now can you?

[... Well given the powers of some people here that's probably not out of the question but still.]
