[Heads up Stein. You've got an audience, in the form of a young troll girl in a dress watching nearby. She waits to say anything until he finishes a set of moves. She doesn't want to distract or interrupt him, after all.]

I never actually seen one of those in use. It's nothing like I expected.

Oh? What were you expecting? [You're a new one, troll girl.]

I'm not entirely sure. It seems like a strange weapon to begin with, the cutting edge placed inside like that. I thought maybe it would be all about stabbing with the tip, but you really use the whole length of the weapon, hilt to blade.

[She steps forward to introduce herself, now that the blade isn't spinning around like that.]

I guess I just couldn't see how it could be an effective tool. Then again, I never really used anything like it myself. I'm Kanaya Maryam.

[She raises a hand in greeting.]

[It's tempting to just swing that blade around and show the troll exactly how useful the cutting edge can be. Once you're in a scythe's radius, it's difficult to escape.

But Stein just smiles and nods.]

I'm Doctor Stein.

What weapon do you prefer?

Well... this.

[She's holding up... a tube of lipstick? She even takes the cap off, reveling it to be two toned, black and green. Turning to the green side, she touches up her lips.]

Maybe I shouldn't talk about strange when it comes to weapons.

Perhaps this sort of thing isn't particularly common outside of my world. Sorry.

[In an instant the cosmetic in her hand is gone, and in it's place is a chainsaw. The motor's already purring softly and everything.]

A chainsaw. Impressive.

Chainsaws have something of a negative reputation on my world. They're loud and messy.

They are, but for me it's an instrument of practicality. Back in my home I spent a lot of time landscaping, and if I encountered anything dangerous this was immediately available.

I must admit, I haven't used it often since coming here. I think the last time I used it as a weapon was about a year ago.

I'd offer to spar, but this isn't a weapon that would hold up against a chainsaw for very long.

[sylphauxiliatrix]

Just as well. I haven't used it as a weapon in months. I so rarely have a need to do so.

[She'll turn the chainsaw back into a cosmetic. It's not very loud at all when idle, but it does get a bit annoying after a while.]

Do you know Maka Albarn? She lives here and I know she uses a similar weapon.

She's one of my students. Her father was actually my scythe back home.

Are you a friend of hers?

Yes. She used her soul perception to help me come to terms with some things shortly after I arrived here. We've been friends since.

[circumsutus]

Glad to hear it. She can be a little slow getting to know people.

She has a good heart, but I've noticed she can be fairly reserved. I'm here today to see her, actually. I've got some books she was interested in.

[She makes a little show of the bag over her shoulder. It's not really weighed down with the sorts of piles of books Maka might be commonly seen with, but there's a handful in there, certainly.]

Oh? What did you bring for her?

Books on fashion and design for earth Asiatic cultures, two specifically about the nation of Japan. She expressed some interest in them, and I have already exhausted them as learning material, though when she's finished I'm going to keep them as references.

[circumsutus]

That's interesting. [... Maka and fashion. He's trying to picture this.]

Her mother is from Japan.

Yes, that's why she wanted to see the books. They're each from a different world, a different instance of earth, so I assume she's interested in seeing how the culture differs from iteration to iteration.
